Judge it!
I was planning to go to Mexico city on vacation next week. All the reservations are made, and I was looking forward to it.
Now I am not sure. I am afraid for my safety. Yet this is the only year I can go.

your changes are higher that you will get hurt on the drive to the airport then harm befallen you from protesters or police. Just use your head you will be fine. Here in oaxaca its very safe.

I just came back yesterday from three weeks in Mexico. I spend a lot of time in Mexico City, and didn't have any problems. Just be careful and I think you'll be fine. I've been walking around alone a lot, in the center around the Zocalo, Chapultapec park, Condesa, Coyoacan.. and I'm a tall blond guy from Holland so I can't hide I'm not a Mexican...

My friend and I bought tickets a while back to fly into Mexico city in October. Our plans were to go to Oaxaca. Should we start looking at other destinations? All the news of the political unrest and the discouragement of many to travel there is a bit scary.

It is very safe in the state of Jalisco. Guadalajara is the main city and there is no political unrest here. |

I live in Guadalajara.....everything is fine over here....no protests, ther have been some but nothing really to be afraid of. Just around 50 people or so and in less than one hour all went home. No problems here. |

I personally think you should change your Oaxaca destination. The protests there have gotten offhand and are giving the city a very bad image. Not until the local government or the federal government take action will Oaxaca get back to normal. I recommend Oaxaca 100%...I enjoyed my stay there and it is a very beautiful place, lots of prehispanic culture. Just pospone Oaxaca a bit. I think Mexico CIty will be o.k. to visit. Just ignore all the protests and avoid them if possible. |

my honest sugestion to you is do not DO NOT go into Mexico City at this time, thing are not just the way they should be for you to have a safe visit there. wait for the election results to be broadcast over the news in next few days and see what the results will be from the people protesting the results. In my opinion, the people protesting are a bunch of sore loosers, they didnt like the results of the election and are on the verge of sending the entire country of Mexico into a difficult situation that can result in bloodshed or worfst, total caos. Mexico is a beautiful country and has many places to visit and enjoy, wait a bit, it wont last much longer before this election fight is settled. respectfully yours, llmonte@sbcglobal.com |

Go to Acapulco its fine, its all drug related and the sreet battles were away from the the beach and hotels. I would be careful if you took a overnight bus becuase crime seems to be on the rise. I live in oaxaca so I dont know first hand just from what i read in the paper.

donīt worry, some states here always have that kind of troubles, even now are notorious in oaxaca, the tourism is appart. At oaxaca the big problem is at the main city or capital oaxaca, but the beaches have no problem. at mexico city we respect tourism we are just dissaponited because the electoral fraud and all the rage goes against the sistem but not to the people. |

Susan: In my opinion, it is not safe to be in Mexico city at this time, the sore loosers that lost the last election are creating a bunch of problems and it seems they are being aided and abetted by the people running the mexico city government, my sugestion is to wait until the electoral office decides who won the election and this is supposed to be before Sep 6, then lets see how the rebels are going to behave, they are indeed capable of creating disturbances bordering in caos for the entire city, as you know, they have the main avenue (reforma) blocked and shut down and you can see in the news the problem this is creating for every one in Mexico City. Having lived and worked there for mamy years, i can honestly say that I will be if not afraid certainly extremely cautious to be in the area affected by Lopez Obrador's gorillas in conjuncion with the guys that run the govt. of mex city. better safe than if not sorry....worried. |

donīt worry the problem is concentrated against the fraud and the institutions involved and the resistance is pacific but the tv news and other media news manipulate information pretendind to cause fear in people but you wont have trouble here in mexico city. I read another comment for you but I think the person who wrote it doesnīt know anything from here |

I am arriving to Mexico City this week and have been researching and keeping myself updated with different sources of information regarding the protests. Overall, it seems that I should not stay in and around el centro or downtown. I am wondering if Zona Rosa would be safe to stay at. I am also wondering if public transportation (the subway) has and in what way been affected by the protest.

I donīt where you wnat to go, but, really, in most of the region of Mexico itīs safe. As everywhere in the world. I am living in Mx since 8 years, and until now, Nothing happened to me..I am travelling a lot, throught the country, by bus, car, plane, whatever, sometimes Hichking...
Now the case Of oaxaca, I donīt know, the actual crisis, make Oaxaca unsafe, Normally there trouble just during night, but the rate of umployement increase a lot, and this should increase the rate of agression...But I wes there are two weeks ago, and all ok... |
