Lt. Lara Bollinger of the Submarine Group 7 Public Affairs said the Virginia class USS North Carolina (SSN 777) arrived on May 13 with a crew of 133, including a Filipino-American.

“North Carolina has conducted a series of missions showcasing the latest capabilities of the submarine force. The crew is proud of our recent contributions as part of our country’s commitment to maintaining freedom of navigation, peace and stability in the region,” Commanding officer Richard Rhinehart said.

The submarine’s arrived as tension increased between the Philippines and China as result of their territorial dispute over the Scarborough Shoal on the West Philippine Sea. The two countries have stationed various ships in area.

The Philippines has a Mutual Defense Treaty with the United States. The US will be required to come to the defense of the Philippines in case of an attack.

Bollinger said the North Carolina was the fourth in the inventory of submarines in the Virginia class of the US Navy.

He said the submarine, which is 350 feet long and weighs 7,800 tons, when submerged was designed to operate with stealth, agility and endurance in the world’s littoral regions as well as in the deep oceans.

“North Carolina is one of the stealthiest, most technologically advanced submarines in the world,” Bollinger said.

“She brings to the region the capability to conduct the full spectrum of potential submarine missions, including anti-submarine warfare, strike, naval special warfare involving special operations such as intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and mine warfare.”

Range of prohibition.– The operation of commercial trawl and purse seine is prohibited in marine water areas within a distance of seven (7) kilometers from the shorelines: Provided, However, that provinces comprising of several islands or islets, 7-kilometer distance shall be measured perpendicularly from the shorelines of such islands or islets: Provided, Further, That in islands or islets where the distance between or among them is 14 kilometers or less, the same shall be treated as one island or islet; and the 7-kilometer distance shall be reckoned from the outer shorelines of such group of island or islet: Provided, Finally, That in coastal areas 7 fathoms deep or more which are not reached by sustenance fishermen, the operation of commercial trawl and purse seine may be allowed by the Minister of Agriculture and Food upon the recommendation of the Director of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, only after such areas have been defined and designated as such the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources on a yearly or seasonal basis.

Also, your arguement still does not change the fact that CHINA IS DESTROYING MARINE LIFE IN SCARBOROUGH SHOAL by trawler fishing in that area. Filipinos fish there in a more environmentally accepted way.

I also researched on the article you posted, and I'm sure you saw the map titled 'Philippine Marine Jurisdiction'.

Pretty interesting as its a map with Scarborough and part of Spratly's inside it.

I hope that by using an article with such a map attached to it, you are in a sense agreeing that SCARBOROUGH IS PART OF PHILIPPINE JURISDICTION. ;)

We were talkig about Scarborough and I did mention that China was the only one using Trawlers in the area.

The Philippines definitely did not use trawlers there, and no one mentioned the use of dynamites, unless it was one of your fellow wumaos.

So you can find me more articles on how the innocent Philippines has been destroying scarborough and not the evil greedy Chinese.

As for trolley fishing, since you keep on bringing that up, I was very human of me to mistake 2 types of fishing methods that sounds almost the same. Trawling and trolling fishing. You can google it again if you don't know what that means.
