Do you know any history at all ? 8th century? Try every year and every day since Muhhamed got the first revelation not to mention his pedophilar life style as commanded by Allah to marrie young teen age girls 4 times his age.

He should have treated the handfull of terrorists as criminals. Instead he wasted America's strength fighting two failed wars. I am atonished that this is coming from someone who supposedly lives in Hawaii. You better watch out that Islam does not overrun your beautiful island.

Communism, however, is a religion too. It had everything from a god (the leader or, alternatively, the state) to which everyone was subjected to, to religious scripture (Das Kapital being a major one).

There were over 130 different tribal areas in Australia. They all lived together in harmony and each had its own dream time stores in how Australia was formed and created. They did not ram it down your throat as most religion does these days. It is, however, still a religion. Just like we have tens of different protestant sects, the aboriginals have their different sects. But for all practical purposes, it can be lumped together as an ideology that follows all basic requirements to be called a religion. Note that buddhists generally also do not ram their religion down your throat, but buddhism is still a religion...

I'm guessing that too are a Westerner raised around Christianity, so I've always suspected that our tendency to see Buddhism as a religion is due to our tendency to insist that everything that seems to refer to the transcendental must be characterized as a religion. Certainly, the practices of many people who call themselves Buddhists would be rightly seen as religious practice. But the way people attached their spooks to Buddhism is not a reflection of the underlying system of thought. So we tend to see all creation-myths as religions, but I'm not sure we're correct in this.

Buddhism in its original form may be called outright atheistic, but many buddhists nowadays do believe in the existence of some type of superhuman beings. Perhaps not outright "gods", though.
