The West owes credit to Islam's historical feats - Features

The relationship between Islam and the West has been depicted as one of confrontation and indifference, but there is more to Islam and its relation with the West than violence and confrontation.

I have never read such rubbish since I read the Koran.
Mohammed made "peace" treaties just to give him time to replenish and reinforce his forces. Then he went back on the attack.
Today's muslims follow his principle particularly the overtly Nazi parties Hamas and Hezbollah.
Muslims persecuted non-muslims in Europe destroying around 1600 churches in Spain alone this was called razzya (razzia).
Non-muslims were forced to pay protection money called jizzya.
If Europe owes so much to Islam what went wrong with Islamic countries? Why don't they now lead the world in technology, art and literature? If Islam contolled the world (which it won't) the only technology allowed would be flint knapping - and that only to make sure the stones were better for killing women with.
I hope these "educational" courses in Australia will remind students that the world is flat, as taught in mosques throughout the muslim world.

Islam created European civilisation?

Greek, Roman, Celtic and Saxon civilisations predate Islam by millennia.

The main contribution of Islam was as a conduit; knowledge Dar ul Islam acquired by conquest, such as the Persian (and therefore Zoroastrian) hospital and scientific research structure were transferred. Very little new was added.

What Dar ul Islam did contribute was the application of science.

The strong social conscience at the base of Islamic philosophy, ensured the technology was of benefit to society, such as universal access to education and medicine and most importantly, especially in Al Andalus, decent plumbing.

Islam's golden ages, in Iraq and in Spain were when the best aspects of these societies were mixed.

The important question is why did it stop?

Agree!

First, they came as "students", and now there are many...

Religion plays a big part in Hawaii. Of that, these people took advantage to sneak slowly in.

Look who is behind this:

>The founding members tried to promote fundraisers to open an Islamic Center in Hawaii. According to the Star Bulletin writer Nadine W. Scott, James Abdullah Roushey stated that he met with the prince Abdulaziz Bin Fahad Al-Faisal of Saudi Arabia and "was rejoiced to learn theprince [was] interested in constructing not only a mosque, but educational and cultural buildings, restaurants, shops and a theather in the Islamic Center" (January 12, 1979). The prince was affiliated, according to the article, with the United Establishment for Trading Co. of Saudi Arabia. However, a handful of Hawaii's Muslims know who is the anonymous benefactor, a Saudi businessman, that donated money to purchase a mosque and a cemitery for Hawaii's Muslims. The benefactor's wishes is to remain anonymous and there are reports that he still visits Manoa's mosque during his trips to Hawaii....<

The Saudi's are doing the exact same thing in Europe. It's the same hidden agenda. Arabs are just spreading their muslim cancer through the backdoor packaged nicely in so called Islamic culture centers, Islamic brainwashing schools masquerading as academic and noisy mosques. Why else would they move to secular society and then complain, agitate, start political movements, force muslim laws on secular society, etc.,etc.? You will soon have mental nutcases self-detonating or some new form of terrorism there.

A road is properly judged by where it leads, not how pretty the surface is.

Dead-end roads always lead to a dead end. No mystery there.

Thanks for clearing that issue up -- according to the writer Christians and Jews owe everything to the Muslims. Also, Muslims have shown IN THE PAST that they are CAPABLE of astonishing feats of tolerance and compassion. Except NOW they just want to kill all the Christians, Jews, and Muslims of different sects with suicide bombers. What BS. We need another Inquisition. Holy war. Holy war. Holy war.

If you actually read the Qu'ran you would see that it states the world is round several hundreds of years before Galileo and Copernicus, it also states that there are 7 levels of the atmosphere, states the presence of internal waves in oceans (discovered less than 20 yrs ago by scientists), states how rain clouds and hail form, talks of the big bang and the continual expanding of the universe (doppler effect) and accurately explains the formation of the human embryo amongst others, no other religious book can boast such scientific accuracy.

Yeah, irrational people like you can come along with your after-the-fact interpretations of the Quran, in which you conclude that some vague statements sound almost like something from science.

And even if the Quran was full of scientific revelations of otherwise unknown facts, it still doesn't mean that other things in the Quran are thereby made true. Each claim must stand on its own, and a book that contains contradictory claims cannot be trusted even if it contains some facts, such as the stunning observation that the Sun emits light and heat.

The fact that it also asserts that the Sun sets in a puddle of mud renders all its other observations rather suspect.

Whatever. It doesn't change the fact that they killed 3000 people on Sept 11. I know this may sound ignorant but sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade.

I may be wrong but I don't think the doppler effect is the proper way to describe the expansion of the universe.
