Classism making a comeback on cruise ships

So the cruise lines are following the lead of the airlines. I wonder where this will end up.

why not just have "specialty cruise ships" for the super rich--that way, they have the whole damn ship to themselves!

The airlines came after transatlantic crossings. It was transatlantic liners that created the class system in travel.
There are "specialty cruise ships" for the super rich - see Seabourn and Silversea. |

The Super rich have their own ships. |

1 Flying and being whisked through the first-class section always makes me want to hold out my hand and say "Alms for the poor?" as I walk through. |

I don't see the big deal. You pay more, you get more. Makes sense to me.
I'll be crusing in "coach," by the way, if I ever go on one. |
|
Very convenient for pirates sneaking aboard the ship. Head for the first-class area to grab the jewells, hostages, etc.
Not much money in purloining the commoners, yah' know. |

The Titanic was ranked by class too and we all know what happened to those lower class passengers

Sounds like a good idea too me. I don't think I want to hang out with the Gated Community set or the Lexus SUV buying type anyway.
3rd class rules!!!! |
|
|
No big deal here - the people with money pay for the extras. The cruise lines, like the airlines, do this to grab every last bit of profit that they can. If they make steerage class too bad, the average person will just not go, and they will then go out of business.
|
|
You're right---the rich practically stomped the poor folks trying to get off that ship!! |
|
|
What happened to everyone is created equal? Don't like this at all.
The super rich should stick to their private yachts and $6,500.00 per night resort fees and let the rest have fun in the real world! |

Hey, an chevy is a chevy is a chevy, no matter how you dress it up. Celebrity has successfully partnered with AZAMARA to offer those seeking more discerning treatment and itineraries. This seems like an easier venture for RCCL. With the bulk of their ships in the caribbean, not exactly a stellar per diem destination cruise, why rock 'da boat with classism? What's next? Separating the Dems from the Republicans?

All of your comments are pretty ridiculous. If you were going on a cruise with your wife would you want to be ina room next to a family of 4 with little kids? or at the pool? or at dinner? No. If you can afford to pay up more power too you.

Walt Disney has cruises to Disneyworld! |

I was on an NCL cruise with those villas. The occupants were sheiks and their women. Frankly, I didn't care to be around them. NCL makes you pay for many of their free style restaurants, so classism is apparent, anyway. Doesn't bother me. The only time I was miffed was when a rather large area of good seats in the theatre was cordoned off for the villas, but never used. If they are going to deign to enter the area for the commoners, they should be treated the same as the commoners at least to the point that if they do not show up by 3 minutes before curtain, release the seats.

My family and I've crusied - a number of times, and last year we made the HUGE mistake of looking for a cruise that left when we wanted to depart [our family's schedules were pretty tight], went where we wanted to go [ports] and simply booked the 'best' suite the ship had. What a mistake! Suffice it to say that the 'suite' was a wreck [tiles missing and falling off in the shower, half a dozen light bulbs burnt out around the dressing table - they said they didn't ahev any replacements onboard, a crack in the sink-basin, rust on the balcony, etc, etc]. As for the rank and vile passangers, let's just say that I've never seen so many jail-house tatoos anywhere but on TV before. Body-piercings, foul language and, after the first 'formal' night - when a couple at a table near us showed up in blue-jeans and T'shirts, my wife and I had dinner on the 2nd formal night sent to our suite.
I've learned to avoid ships leaving from Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, New Jersey and Louisiana. My best advice is to fly someplace out of America to a vessel that starts and finishes outside of America. Western Europe is usually the best - where manners still exist. Cruise lines - like Carnival, are Greyhounds on the seas {with much of their passenger list no doubt on parole and breaking the terms thereof}. Know your ship, cruise-line and buying up ALWAYS pays off. |
