So based on your assumptions, the US has pretty much been a socialist country since its inception. We have had public schools in this country for hundreds of years. Public schools are a social program, so therefore this is and always has been a socialist society. So how do you intend on changing it?

Public schools have been around for hundreds of years in the US starting in the late 1600 even before we gained our independence. You might want to check your facts before you go off half cocked on something you know little about.
