One more post to you and then I will shake you from my sandals. I may not speak for some of the more charitable Catholic Christians on this thread, but I think I speak for most.
Yes, I really know you're not a preacher (in your own mind you think you are). You are a fraud. A phony. A delusional old man who, as the years progressed, became more puffed up as you swayed the occasional weak minded revival attendee. You experienced a hallucination when you think you were ordained. You say you've read the bible (your KJV condensed version), but sadly, you don't understand it. Yes, you do not understand it. I think that if some of your so-called attendees saw some of your post, they would be ashamed of you. Take my warning. Convert to the Church that Christ established on earth in order to save your soul. Otherwise, "Get thee behind me satan"
Anthony, I am sad to say that even if his church attendees saw his posts they would still praise him. We had a local Church of God preacher, michael filppo, kill his wife, beating her to death with a log, and still the members of his sect would only praise him, even after compromising picture of him with a gay partner came out. Thankfully he was convicted and is now in prision.

All for the Love wrote:
<quoted text>
We are told to love everyone, particularly enemies. It's useful to start by looking at what this does NOT mean. It does not mean that we will like everyone. Love is not primarily an emotion, although it often involves the emotions, and is supported by them. It is primarily a commitment to care about someone.
Jesus' teachings are largely a description of what love means. However the briefest description is from one of Paul's letters:
Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love is based on our status as fellow children of God. This means that there is at least potentially a close spiritual bond between all of us. It is a reflection of the fact that God loves us, and is an expression of Christ's love active in us
hey do me a favor and go to your church and preach someone else....no where in the bible does it say i have to care about anothers thoughts...maybe feelings and if i hurt them but i dont have to care what you or anybody else says....i am here for myself and my kids...i do not have to worry about anybody else! keep going to your fundie church while me and my family go to the right one and on the right path to heaven! thank you!

The greatest reason for becoming members of the Catholic Church is that Jesus has made available through her the infinite Source of Grace, Himself, through the Sacraments of the Church. Non-Catholics Christian sects talk about being saved as if that is an end in itself, but it is just the beginning. The Bible exhorts us to "grow" in grace. With the BV Mary as our model, who was "full" of grace, all God's children should strive to be full of grace as well. The BV Mary being "full" of grace means that she is as close to the Beatific Vision that a creature can come. If we could fully understand the nature of the Beatific Vision we would surly never be far from God's Sacraments, which are fountains of living water, grace.

I want to begin this post by saying that I am impressed with the charitable Christian behavior of most in this thread, and to apologize for the length of my post. My bad, I can’t seem to help myself. I DO NOT direct this to anyone in particular, since I mean this to be beneficial to all of us.

I am posting this because some of my experiences and also what I’ve seen on this and other threads. It’s about the sin of pride. I try to study on each sin weekly and as it’s difficult for me to avoid sin, I’ve never given up reading to remind me.

The sin of pride has often been called one of the most terrible of all sins, being a seed sin for many other sins. All, without exception, can relate to this in their lives. For those of us having abundant pride, this could even be spiritually fatal.

Proverbs 6:16-19 says, "These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren."

I used to wonder why that was a worse sin than others until I began to study on it. This was the sin of the Archangel and look at all of the evil in the world that has ensued from it. Even upon Jesus’ death, the Pharisees denounced Him in pride.

Somewhere, I read something and I wish I could remember where, because I would like to revisit it, but I copied part of it for myself and here it is.

“how do you react when someone criticizes you for something? Is your initial reaction one of resentment and indignation; how dare they say this to ME. Then pride is at work in your heart. You see anger is a fruit that grows on the ROOT of pride. Why do we get angry when someone criticizes us? Our pride is hurt. The fact that the accusations may not even be well founded really doesn't matter. Your reaction is what matters. If the accusation is unfounded don't worry about it. God will vindicate you. Our Lord Jesus was falsely accused and learned to commit His case to His Father. He left it to Him to acquit Him.”

Pride can deceive us into thinking that you are smarter or more righteous than others and so you set about putting others down and maybe even going as far as making false accusations or spreading malicious gossip.

Pride can be responsible for discord, destruction and can promote some evil consequences. So it’s best to avoid this like the plague on the soul that it is. More importantly, God detests this behavior.
I think it might be safe to say that we’ve all been guilty of this at times in some degree. Hopefully we realize it for what it is and make a good conscious effort to avoid this sin. It’s hard to own up to it because it’s ugly, but it’s not irreversible. Our gift of this short earthly life could be better spent on more noble actions.

Your style of not discussing, and dialoguing, displays, an impersonal touch....
Copying reams of material from sites, or listing concordance based scriptures, is merely a substitute for reasoned faith....
Your tactic is old. Just bombard people with a bunch of scriptures makes you correct....This ludicrous approach, causes people to shut the door in the face of JWs....Try conversing with me, if you can, and to dare share your faith and doubts....Just be honest....

Thanks Victor. Your earlier post on Pride was very good also. It reminded me of C.S. Lewis's book "Mere Christianity" in which he clearly states that Pride is the worst sin of all. Of course that was the first sin of Lucifer.

It is difficult to deal with those attacking the Church with perfect charity. And when we show them up with facts and Scripture, it's hard to keep from feeling pretty good about it. There is a fine line between pride and courage in defense of the TRUTH. It's something we all need to be concerned about. Humility is what we all need to pray for when we go into combat.

Thanks Mary,

You are right on about humility and yours is a different perspective that I had not thought on. It is definitely something I want to study about more. It is such a wonderful virtue. Many are attracted to those who are humble as many were drawn to Jesus because of His humility.I think it's good to study not only on the sins to avoid but on the virtues to practice. I hope you're having a blessed Sunday.

You know what would be truly beautiful? Having "christianrabbi" (aka atemcowboy") take it up with all the JW's!!! That would get both of them off of here!! Again, good people, many of you have learned these past few days that it is futile to engage him in discussion. He won't listen to anything except his own versions of the truth. Even when given a clear interpretation of what the Catholic Church beleives, he continues to slam it. Therefore, I say to ALL of you...DO NOT RESPOND TO HIM!! WE have been trying to explain Church teaching and what it means for months...go back and look at all the postings and see for yourself. It's the same old story, over and over again. Let us all be matuer, intelligent, and gracefully ignore his postings. I'm sure we all have better things to do than to encourage this person to continue spewing forth lies and causing division.

Hi Robert,
I got a chuckle when I read honey or vinegar. It reminded me of my grandmother who always said, that her best bargaining position was withholding food. You're right of course, being one of the matured voices of reason. It reminds me of those I've counseled with addictions. Unless they have a true committment to make the change, it doesn't matter, even if they can embrace the logic and even when they are experiencing and have acknowledged the destruction in their lives. Often the change only comes when they've hit absolute rock bottom and when their survival instincts kick in and then they reach out for help, and any hope. Until that happens they will convince themselves in any way they can, that the issue is manageable. Hope, what a wonderful gift, but that's a whole other story, perhaps one of the greatest stories of mankind.
You've piqued my curiosity with a prior post, I think I may replace my lost orange trees with something less susceptible to disease. Am having a blessed Sunday, hope you and all are having the same.

Most fundamentalists reject psychology. It would be an admission that God is not in control of them....So it directly is an affront to them. That being so, all one needs to do is use a little psychology to prove they are not in control of their own thoughts, and acting out a role....

You are right, most have to hit rock bottom when they really look for help....It is a hard lesson for those trying to give help too....We just can't go around expecting everyone to listen....The old saying, I am in control of what I think, and feel, and what I think about is what makes me feel good or bad is true for us all.

Being on the outside of fundamentalism, to me it is more a mental condition, than a religious condition....Some sort of failure to link symbols and reality. It seems to set in with young adults in their idealism....

Anyway, it is raining hard right now, and sort of spoiled my plans to plant a couple more rows of veggies, but there is plenty of time for that. My water buckets are getting refilled with rain and that makes me happy.....

I really like satsumas....I am not sure about your location for them, but I suspect they would do fine....They can withstand a freeze or two in winter. The flavor is between a tangerine and an orange. And they are about the size of a tangerine....

I think the variability of the weather narrows our choices when it comes to planting now(esp. for personal consumption). So I am trying to plant more native type plants....Muscadines, satsumas, and persimmons thrive while other vines and trees struggle now, due to the weather....

Consider, old native fruit trees is my general advise to all....

I am not in the JW cult, nor have I ever been.... I used them as an example of why a person should not use scriptures to support their opinions and views(esp, in your case eschatological views).

I don't know how you came to that conclusion....All I can do is speculate....so here goes:

You may be reaching, to put me into some sort of extremely weird religion, or concept, which you can easily condemn, via the Bible....Sorry to disappoint....

However, as you can see, I am taking the time to get you to dialogue, and I guess that might make me weird....LOL

Take care, the sky is not falling....
