The big problem is the key word "up to". Chances are the fine will be closer to $250 dollars which most employers would gladly pay in exchange for not having to pay costly worker comp bills.

It's all a scam to bring in a new batch of voters since they seemed to have p!ssed off with their corrupt behavior the other 140 million American Citizens who vote.

Does not mean a hill of beans if IT IS NOT ENFORCED. The existing Laws are not enforce so what the heck does another one matter! Even if enforce business would just write it off as a cost of doing business. The way exist Laws about hiring Illegal Aliens has been enforced--doubt Employers hiring Illegal Alien should be concerned. What is need is the people responsible for hiring an Illegal Alien be jailed for a year and a day and the Law strictly enforced. Plus THE business fined! These Promises about ENFORCING THE Laws pertaining to hiring Illegal Aliens was made the LAST TIME an Illegal Alien Annesty Bill was signed into Law. But the entire FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LAW ENFORCEMENT could only fine about THREE EMPLOYER to charge and a conviction resulting is a FINE! About 11 million Illegal Alien and the Federal Government Can ONLY ABOUT THREE EMPLOYERS EMPLOYING THEM. One person with no education, deaf, blind in one eye, only transportation walking, a piece of brown wrapping paper, a pencil, working for below minimum wage could have done a better job of enforcing the Law than the Entire Federal Government Law Enforcement Agencies.
Why they WERE PREVENTED FROM DOING THEIR JOBS by our USA Presidents since 1986!

It's time to VOTE OUT the corrupt Senators and VOTE IN the right ones! The ones that will keep America a Great Nation! Ones that will create bills that state, "English is Our Language, Learn It or Leave!" and as you stated mcgyver NO WISHY WASHY "up to" language on employment. It should state ... ANY EMPLOYERS EMPLOYING ILLEGALS WILL BE FINED $20,000 FOR EACH ILLEGAL WORKER! That would be clear and concise, no room for misinterpretation!

Why put all the blame on the employer? Who do you think makes illegals want to come to the US anyway? It's the members of congress who vote to extend social security benefits and medical aide to illegals who have committed felonies in using fake ID cards and lying on the social security applications. If a legal citizen did this he/she would be fined and imprisoned.

I'm not against immigration but I am against anything that treats legal citizens more harshly than other groups to include illegals. I believe it's time to set up a viable system where foreign nationals can easily apply for and, if qualified, receive work permits that they can use to work, apply for social security numbers, and receive medical tratment. We need a system that would take the criminal element out of the picture and reduce the risks to foreigners while protecting current US citizens.

~I totally agree with your comment below. Let us all start the momentum to publish things about corrupt Representatives. They ALL should be voted out as soon as possible. They are NO LONGER "For The People" but FOR "THEMSELVES!"
~The Senate voted Tuesday to fine employers who hire illegal immigrants up to $20,000 for each unauthorized worker, providing teeth to a broad immigration bill before sending it to a final vote later this week.
~Employers would have to check Social Security numbers and the immigration status of all new hires within 18 months after money is provided to the Homeland Security Department to expand the electronic system for screening workers.
~Up to $20,000 is a total joke. Its like peeing in the ocean, you are NOT going to raise the water level. Let's assume a home builder is building 100 homes and has illegal immigrants building them.(They do use illegal immigrants to build them--I know this first hand). So the home builder is caught and fined $20,000. That is only $200.00 a home--big deal when you consider the home builder's profits.

_____Copied & Pasted for reference_____

"This is probably the single most important thing we can do in terms of reducing the inflow of undocumented workers, making sure we can enforce in a systematic way rules governing who gets hired,' said Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
The amendment passed 58-40. Opponents said the verification system would take years to implement and complained that workers deemed illegal could still hold onto jobs until their appeals are exhausted."

A smart homebuilder will anticipate the fines levied and pass them along to the buyer. That's what they do with all the levies, fees, road improvements school bonds etc. that the agencies place on the developer

Just wondering if I start a Website and it only related to our happy politicians, how many of you could I count on being a part of the forums and providing News Links regarding the politicians as you saw them. I think its time "we start a move to take back representation of the people!"

We as good law abiding Americans must do our research homework and vote for the ones that WON'T SELL/GIVE AWAY AMERICA -- In other words, the lesser of the evils. Which like you said honest ones are hard to find.

How about a reality t.v. program called "Lifestyles of the Elected and Corrupted'? Let bring Robin Leach out of retirement. He could go around Washington filming exactly the way our politicians really live, how they spend, what they watch, how they vacation, etc. We deserve to know how our tax dollars are being spent. Let's see the kind of medical treatment they really get compared to us, or their pensions and benefits, compared to us.

That woud be a hoot. Seeing how American Idol gets more votes than presidential races it could very well be a huge success. Wonder if Aaron Spelling is interested ?

I can't help but to laugh at all of your highly educated comments. I think that some of you guys should be in office , yeah right! All these politicians that all of you have been bitching about for the last 20 years have made this country greater then it has ever been. I'm not saying that these people have the highest moral standards, but I am saying that I would rather put my future in the hands of highly educated economists then in the hands of some parnoid people thinking that immigration is going to be America's downfall, on the contrary I believe that the influx of immigrants in the late 70s n early 80s helped jump our economy into a huge economic boom. Look at how strong our country is now because of it. By the way before you bigots go off on illegals, can any of you tell me how many sons of those illegals are fighting for this country right now. I'll tell u its a huge number. Just look up the percentage of marines that are from mexican decent.

They could charge a billion dollars in fines, but IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MUCH IT IS IF NO ONE IS ENFORCING THE LAWS ALREADY ON THE BOOKS.
