Hello to you from Cyprus, I just got back a week ago from Aiga Napa and Larnaca, I like Cyprus, most Americans have never been there but I like it a lot. I understand what your saying about more of the population beginning to speak Spanish and they are becoming more of the population, however the reason for this is there is no work where they come from, no opportunity, corrupt government, etc. If as America we start to change the way we do things, like how we speak for the reasons to help others make it in America, we relax why we have become a great power and soon our goverment will be the same as theres. then where will they go? Italians, Jews, Germans, Irish, all came to America and did great things and it was because they became Americans, not insisted Americans become Italians, Jews, Germans or Irish. BTW, I speak Spanish because I have had businesses where I had Mexican employees but the future of the US economy as it relates to the world economy is not benefiting from speaking Spanish. Also more and more Mexicans are moving back, soon there will be a fence, more security at all borders, and the trend will reverse as the government in the US imposes large fines on those who hire illegal immigrants.

Stop the bashing!! We live on this planet together and more globally than ever. This sounds like world war via hurting and cutting remarks. We need peace among all the citizens of our world so why are you / we showing so much anger? Show some respect and respect will be given to you in return. Language is a problem but by working together to help one another, we can overcome these communication hurdles.

The U.S. has its problems for sure, but we are not bad people, as so many of you believe. Every nation has idiots and poorly educated citizens. No matter, our country has tried to help as many as possible so why do you put us down? Maybe the U. S. should just pull out and stop the financial aid to so many areas. If it only going to make the world look down on us, they we should just not offer our help anymore. Lord knows, I would have more money in my bank account by paying less taxes that support international aid...
The U. S. has succeeded because, historically, there has been a concerted effort to uphold the constitution of our country and to respect our laws. So many come here and show total disrespect for the things that made our country strong and I say that they should stay away if they can't live within the constraints of our laws and rules. The corruption you see is being fed by outsiders who come here and expect us to bend to their failing attitudes from their own countries. They want to escape the turmoil and poor government of their country but yet they arrive here and expect to live exactly as they did in their failing nation. This country can't solve the problems of all the crap in the world and the sooner we learn this and pull out of those ungrateful places, the better we will be as a nation.

Yes, some Americans are stupid....see LIBERALS. Hard working Americans who pay too much in taxes to support WELFARE are Conservatives, usually Republicans. Liberals are the people too lazy to work or the over wealthy people who think the middle class should support them. Liberals are the ones who think we should change the spelling of words because they're too confusing for kids these days. Liberals are the ones supporting Obama. I'm a little lost here. The United States of America is filled with people from most countries all over the world. Not too many countries even allow that, let alone have that. Therefore, by default, in the good ole USA, more languages are spoken here fluently than anywhere else in the world.

Why are there so many negative thinking people out there?

Need something translated from Spanish to French to German to Chinese to Japanese to Vietnamese to Arabic to English? Save gas...come to America.

When you say welfare, you failed to mention corporate welfare: the trillions of taxpayer dollars going to the financial institutions? Even after the ceo/cfo's of those same institutions raked in 300+++ millions per year in pay. You also forgot to mention the corruption of the trillions of taxpayer dollars going to the industrial military complex to kill innocent Iraq civilians and make the world more unsafe then ever.

I would sleep better at night, if my taxpayer dollars were going to feed and educate the needy instead of the greedy.

Here in Florida, we have lots of Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Mexicans, heck...just "spanish speaking" people from all over South & Central America. It has been my experience at work, there there a SEVERAL different dialects of Spanish. I still find it amusing when they all get together a speak broken English so they can understand each other a better.

It's all just communication. Do it as you see fit. If you find yourself getting frustrated because nobody understands you, maybe it's time to take up a second language.

Careful with statements like that. Sounds like a lot, but the last census showed only 13% of the population. Not really a reason to make it a second language. Actually, North American English isn't even recognized as the "official language". It just happens to be spoken fluently by 82% of the population. In Puerto Rico, however, English & Spanish are both recognized as their "official languages".

People of German ancestry make up the largest single ethnic group in the United States, yet the German language ranks fifth.

Approximately 337 languages are spoken or signed by the US population, of which 176 are indigenous to the area. 52 languages formerly spoken in the country's territory are now extinct. Many of which were Native American.

Sounds like a pretty diverse country if you ask me. How many other countries can say they speak 337 different languages?

Americans used to be the leaders in education. We had the opportunity to learn a minimum of four languages in high school. We have eliminated geography, religion, and some of the sciences in order to be politically correct or make schooling easier to mainstream our children. It has bit us in the Arse. We are the ones screaming "When in America, SPEAK ENGLISH!" This is correct but it takes time to learn a language. There is not a pill you can take to speak a language immediately. I found when traveling to other countries I can at least say: yes, no, please, thankyou, how are you, I love you, one more beer please, in less than a week. What more do you need?

For your consideration. The majority of those Americans are the privileged. We don't particularly like them very much ourselves. Wife and daughter loved France and Spain very much and got along very well with the citizens of both nations. Courtesy and friendliness goes a long way.

I've not met a single European that can speak English, French and German, much less every single one that visits America. Surely they exist, someone knows all three languages, but not all of them.

That said, I find it an embarrassment that some some Muslim who throws his church under the bus (instead of "Changing" it?), his grandmother under the bus, idolizes his father who left both him and his mother when he was a child who happens to also be a muslim, has no idea how many states are within the United States, will not face the AMERICAN flag, finds it somehow painful to wear an AMERICAN pin, wants to be the leader of AMERICA. This, my fellow Americans, will be the greatest terrorist attack of any that could be imagined.

What better terrorist attack than to become President of the most powerful free country in the world. We'll see change all right, we're in for a world of hurt if this guy becomes President. Please vote smart. One day we will have a great African American President. It needs to be the right one, one that will make the nation proud. It is not Barack Obama.
