Why Are There Homeless People?

The homeless problem could be solved very easily. Just give them homes. I know some people will say "then what will be their incentive to work?" I'm not saying give them the best homes. Give them small, cramped apartments, and then those who want more than that can work for it. Those who don't are just given enough to survive. You should work for your lifestyle, but people shouldn't be put in a situation where they might die just because they don't work. And if you're homeless you have so much to worry about you're not going to be able to hold down a job. First you need a home, then you can work.

Small, cramped apartments? Heck, in NY people will pay $500,000 for one of those! How much does giving them "enough to survive" mean? How long do we give them to find a job, after we provide them with an education and/or job training, before they take over the rent? If they don't do we boot them out and back onto the street? What if they're simply unemployable?

Problem is, if you try to force them off the streets into apartments, when they don't want to go, the ACLU starts filing lawsuits.

If you try to force those who need it into hospitals/insitutions, the ACLU starts filing lawsuits.

If you put them into an apartment that's dangerous, and/or they hurt themself, the ACLU starts filing lawsuits.

If they're "mentally disbled" and they hurt someone else because you couldn't put them in a hospital/institution because the ACLU will start filing lawsuits, then the ACLU will start filing lawsuits.

Giving them enough to survive means they get the essentials of life, shelter, food(stamps), etc. but no free-spending money. Such an existance would allow a person enough security to focus on getting a job if they wanted to, since they wouldn't be worrying about survival like they have to on the streets, but at the same time it wouldn't be good enough for most people so a lot of them would go look for jobs.

As for the mentally ill, get them therapy and medication. With the right treatment most crazy people can live normal lives. These people are homeless, because poverty makes it hard to affoard these resources when needed.

There no security, most of working people in society are living on a pay check from week to with with little or no savings so easy to be homeless! Scary!

We could make them slaves. That way we could get rid of the illegals.

They don't have homes. Duh.

Homeless people, are there because of circumstance, the economy and mental health to name a few reasons. Giving them housing is what "public housing" tries to do. But then where does it stop? F.E.M.A. is giving people homes here in the Gulf Coast. The Katrina survivors for the most part have yet to move out of them. First it was the trailers and now the cottages. Most of these people would rather buy a new truck a new boat or a 4 wheeler than save enough to buy a home. Then you have the prices of homes. Good lawd I don't need to tell you how inflated the market already is. It's a miracle more people aren't homeless.

Actually I think we could do a lot for people if we put our minds to it.

It cost more per year to keep a person in prison then to give them a good education.

Of course if people in this country were educated then we wouldn’t be in 2 wars and the nuts running this government would be in jail.

A better solution is to round them up and send them to Canada. That would solve the problem.

No, that's because their corporate masters are confiscating more of their work than they used to. Some of these people do work, but a lot of these people just line their pockets and sign things on occasion while the workers do all the work for them. The type of salaries corporate officials are making these days is outrageous.

Most homeless people don't. If someone really wants to be homeless that's their choice, but I think the vast majority of homeless people would accept a home if offered.

Here's an idea. Convert abandoned buildings into new homes and give them to the homeless. They're just sitting there not being used and it will save money if we don't have to build new buildings.

It's hard to budget when you have to choose between gas or groceries, paying rent or filling your prescriptions. A lot of families are in that situation even with 2 incomes.

a lot of people would be homeless if they missed 2 months worth of work, unemployment only gives you 2/3 of your usual check, and only if you have been working for a certain number of quarters, and only if you meet all their criteria, and it only lasts 6 months or less, depending on how long you worked.

why do so many "homeless", or street beggars, have tattoos, nose-rings, piercings, and so on? Why waste their money on such stupidity?

Absolutely right. It can happen to any one of us at any time, all it takes is one bad day that snowballs into the next, a lay off, an illness, a death or birth, a fire and so on (Recommend watching Pursuit of Happyness, great movie but also shows how quickly you can become homeless)...... So in reality the difference between us and the homeless is one paycheck.
