I was surprised to see someone else use it on topix:) I think how a religion is created, with all the influences from other cultures and how they evolve over the years is more interesting than any religion itself. When you do break down a religion you can also see how it's origins had a purpose for the time it was created. Like you pointed out "story of christ.. broken down... explain[s] astrological patterns" you realise that they are explanations for though out the year, for example telling them when to plant seeds and harvest and through their understanding of nature were able to see if it will be a good year or not. As their understanding was limited they had seen them as messages from a deity and overtime they collected these stories to explain nature and the world around them forming these mythology. I was watching the zeitgeist movement I believe when they discussed the story of Jesus. It was very fun to watch, and I was surprised. I should look more into it and familiarize myself with all the details in specific. It was fascinating, hell according to them jesus wasn't even the first jesus in the bible.

Atheism Derailed wrote: <quoted text> Utter garbage. The links between the two of them are not genuine at all. About the only thing they have in common is that they are both considered gods and they both died. The idea that Jesus is a clone of Horus is quite popular - made so by the zeitgeist video and internet bloggers. However, any historian worth their salt knows that there is simply no real connection between the two. There is zero historical evidence to suggest that Horus was born of a virgin, had 12 disciples, rose from the dead, or pretty much anything else. Yeah I'm not gonna just take your word for it. If that's what you think discredit the zeitgeist movement. Find proof of there lies, or what you are alleging as lies. Also you'll have to discredit the documentary 'Religilous' to prove this point.

Also look at “the Fourth Philosophy”, the terrorist group that the guy later known as jesus was a member And if you can get copies try Danial Underbanks “Judas the Galilean: the flesh and blood Jesus” and Paul Cresswell “Jesus the Terrorist” I never figured he was a terrorist. I'm gonna have to look this up :3

There is zero historical evidence to suggest that Horus was born of a virgin, had 12 disciples, rose from the dead, or pretty much anything else. Exactly the same amount of evidence as for Jesus. The bible is not "historical evidence". The real historical facts are slim to none. Jerico for instance is a ruin, but was not made a ruin at the times the bible said the battle took place, nor in the way it said it took place. Egyptians and Romans were both sticklers for record keeping down to keeping track of every jug of wine sold. They kept records of everything, but not of a Jesus raising the dead or dying on a cross. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_myth_theor...

Atheism Derailed wrote: In Florida, an atheist created a case against Easter and Passover Holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days. The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, "Case dismissed!" The lawyer immediately stood and objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, How can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays..." The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client, counselor, is woefully ignorant." The lawyer said," Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists." The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fool's Day. Psalm 14:1 states,'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned..." Your faith continues to fail you and wakes you based on its faulty premises and lies. As a Christian, I'm completely asleep all night, no fears, no worries, no stresses.......my faith is strong , unlike yours which fails you all hours of the day AND night. You sound a little desparate my friend. Your faith doesn't seem strong enough to answer why the bible story claims its god had to have someone save a pair of each animal, when he could of just done what, genesis said he did the first time.

Nontheist wrote: <quoted text> http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/map/Mou... Looking at a terrain map, the elevation remains somewhere in the range of 1000 meters, at a distance of about 25 miles radiating outward from Ararat. Both the Caspian and Black seas are more than 120 miles away from the Ararat mountains. I've read Ararat covers 200,000 square miles. Even if every bit of the polar caps melted, at once, the levels of the ocean would only rise about 70-80 meters if I'm not mistaken. Worldwide. I mentioned the worldwide aspect to apply some perspective. I'm trying to accommodate your notion of a regional flood. I could be wrong, but there simply isn't enough water in the region to have raised the water levels high enough to have deposited anything on the mountains of Ararat were there even to be massive flooding in that area. What do you think? I talked earlier about canyons and gullies. Enough rain over 40 days would flood the local area’s valleys, canyons and gullies. Especially if they became dammed up during the flooding. Earlier thoughts from Christians of the Ark laying somewhere half way up the side of Mt. Ararat is not realistic. So when you considers Mountains and Mountain ranges one must also consider the low valley’s, canyons, gorges, and this could be where the Ark settled.
