She needed eye surgery as a pup, but had gone at least 10 years without it so she's blind in one eye and the other had severe ulceration (extremely painful). Both eyes were terribly infected. She's mostly deaf as well because of constant ear infection--easily controlled with daily meds. The vet said that was also a painful condition, besides building up enough scar tissue over time to damage her hearing. Perhaps she WAS loved with whoever had her before--it was obvious she'd had some training--but she didn't get decent vet care, or even minimum care. That's a lot of needless suffering!
We were supposed to do a rescue transport and foster her, but after realizing how serious her chronic problems were we didn't trust anyone else to give the ear & eye meds daily and take care of her like we knew we would.
There are a lot of kids treated as poorly--and much worse--than this dog though.
