Hick-up, everyone on this thread has done the same thing at some point. Some do it more than others. Lest we someday have to eat those words of accusation-----<quoted text>

Indeed, I remember singing that little song many times while seated at the piano when no one else was around for miles. Powerful stuff. Keith was the man. |

Accreditation and Accreditation …that being said, allow me to repeat it once more, Accreditation. I would not recommend an On-Line College per say. Remember that ALL institutions of higher learning are in business to make money. Make them work for you. As a student, you will sign their paycheck. NEVER let them forget that…without being arrogant about it of course. Make appointments to introduce yourself to all dept. heads you will associate with (Math, English, Science, etc), as well as all the wheels (Pres or Dean, HR, Bus Office, Fin Aid, etc). Keep a copy of ALL correspondence …all of it. Review everything before you sign …everything. Remember, their paycheck depends on you. Ask lots of questions …there is NO such thing as a stupid question. Remember that students work for the college too. If a student prepares a document, takes your money, or enters anything in a computer …double/triple check. Get a RECIEPT/ACKNOWLEDGEMENT for everything. Again, review everything …dates, body, closing, etc. I purchased a 3 inch, 3-ring binder and dedicated it to edu correspondence only. I suggest you do the same. Sub-divide this binder into appropriate headings …Feds, State, Institution (bus office, fin aid, student affairs, etc), and Scholarships etc. Make copies of every document you fill out or provide …Admission Application, fin aid, high school/transfer transcripts, immunization records, Statement of Activities. You will have lots of homework before you ever set foot on a campus. Let your fingers do the walking. I would ask you these questions; What type of degree(s) do you seek? What degrees do you already hold, and from whom (Accreditation)? Have you met the General Admission Requirements (Core) of the institution you desire to attend (Math, English)? Even on-line classes MAY require a classroom visit once or twice …especially on Finals day. Proctors are available, however they cost too, and their use is at the discretion of the professor. Then you also have Degree Requirements of the disciple you pursue (Teaching, Nursing, Political Science, Engineering, etc). Just because you met the requirements at Institution X, this does not mean Institution W is under any obligation to accept it. They may try to convince you that you must take what they offer …talk to another institution. Find the one or ones that are willing to work for your money. If you’re not interested in “Sports” for instance, stay away from institutions that spend loads of money on sports programs. As a non-traditional student, I am sure your reasons for attending are for edu benefits only. Be prepared for lots of homework …loads of it. Be prepared to write, write, write, or better said, type, type, type. Math is the only class I have ever taken where the professor accepted hand written work. Ask about a Regents Program. See what kind of credit you can receive for life experiences. You will still have to pay for the course, but you can “test out” and will not have to attend while still receiving credit hours. Your ISP says Dallas. You are surrounded by excellent University’s. Call them and make an appointment to speak to a counselor. Several actually …Fin Aid, Business Office, Intake, etc. Inquire as to what on-line classes they offer, as well as Televised Courses. Review their Catalog on-line …request a hard copy if available. Make the most of everything the institution has to offer. As a student you will have access to many things available on-line, from other institutions as well as dot org’s, journals etc. If time permits, get involved in Work-Study. Not for the pay, but for the interaction with the faculty and staff. Tell a joke, make copies for a professor, be visible / recognizable and make a name for yourself. Be DISCIPLINED and have fun …and remember Accreditation! |

Well said, And here is the good news: John Chapter Fourteen 6 Jesus said to him,“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Romans Chapter Ten 9 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." |

God did not create Suffering, pain, anger, etc. Man's sin created those things. Suffering is the result of human sin. The world is not the way that God created it and because of that, all are vulnerable to the affects of sin in the world. Why does one person suffer and another does not? Why do catastrophes happen to some and no others? It is because sin is in the world. But there will come a day when the Lord will return and cleanse this world of all sin and all suffering. But the future is bright thanks to God's Grace on the Cross. "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Rev. 21:4). |

First of all, good suggestions on record keeping, meeting those in power on a personal basis and correspondance. Since I run my own businesses, I already have all those things in place. When I speak on the phone, it goes into my day book with the name of the person I spoke to, the time, and general conversation highlights. All receipts go into a monthly tax file. Yes, I have qualifed (CORE) for all classes. As I said, I do take classes at Baylor University. My average test scores are 98 on all subjects. As far as homework goes, I study in 30 minute increments, then take a 10 min break. I find this works out well for me. I passed the state appraisal board test and decided, after taking the big mamma jamma course and tests, that I want nothing whatsoever to do with appraisals. But it is great knowledge to have on hand. I still have two more semesters to finish up a marketing degree. More math and more media. Math is great, media I have not been crazy about. Then take all finals. So in the next couple of years I will have a degree in marketing. The psychology will go toward the marketing degree, but not many of the marketing hours will be applied to a psychology degree. I would think that since there is so my psychology used in marketing that those classes would go 100% credit. Like I said, I will probably wait to spend more time after retired to getting any other degrees. I have a Texas law class and an Business Ethics class to take between now and April 1. I have to have 15 hours to keep my license active, and I have to have the Business Ethics class to sit on the state board. But those are easy, easy classes. I can do each of them in a week and go to designated testing area for the finals. You can take an online class for the 15 hours, but the Ethics classes have to be in person. Thank goodness it's nearby. But for the 15 hour course to count as credits, you have to take the finals at a specified facility. As far as accredidation, I think Baylor pretty much has that covered. We also have an extension of TSU here. Same deal. As far as being disciplined, I've run my own successful businesses for 22 years. Nuff said? By the way, what is your career and what are you studying? Or did I miss that part? |

Verse of the day
For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.”- Psalm 33:4-5 Today's passage is from the New International Version. |

After enlistment I got into heavy construction...hotels, condo's, prisons, etc. In 88 I became involved in trucking. Have seen this country...all 48 states, and the Canadian provinces of B.C. and Ont with over 1 million miles driving experience. Did maintenance, wrenchin, load transfer & consolidation, sales, dispatch, training, and asst to safety director with two brothers...two seperate company's, same location, ten years. The bro's were in their 70's when I left in 99. The biz was changing faster than they could change to keep up. Relocated to WV, took a local job, started investigating the possibility of returning to school. The only college credit I had was my basic training & mil tech school. Tested out of remidial English but had to take remedial math. Started the summer of 01. Attended the fall semester, chickened out half way thru the spring semester. Returned to work and was reminded why I started school, so I returned the following spring where I remained until the end of the spring semester 05. Savings were depleted even tho I found and worked for various trucking co's over every holiday and break. Returned to Fla went to work , leased an 05 Kenworth T-600 and 05 Utility reefer. First dispatch was involved in a head-on with a drunk going the wrong way in a mile long curve down by Lake Okeechobee. Returned to work several months later...but it's no good. Original plan was to work one yr and return to WV and finish. Double major, Bus Management and HR. Completed 88 of 128 credit hours with 3.7 gpa. Presently at a cross road ...return to school full-time or find an employer and continue part time. Thankfully I save my dough, live within my means, and have the ability to pick and choose an employer. However I am 48 and age discrim is against me, students that completed their edu are hired before me as they can be trained to do it the employers way and I also suspect the youngun's do not know what they're worth. At one time I considered persueing an MBA or Logistics.
Thar's yur nutshell. |

Thank you for the compliment. I do not feel obliged to tell you anything. You already have your opinions and have yet to realize that those opinions are of no value to me. Everything anyone tells you that is different to your own view, you later use to try and hurt them. You've done that with me before. I OWE YOU NOTHING. YOUR OPINION IS OF ZERO VALUE. Now, was that loud enough for you to hear it skippy? |

Quite a colorful history, hick-up. OTR drivers are scary now. They are young, inexperienced and darn well don't seem to want to be careful or courteous. It's a great life for those who have the stomach for it. I don't. I need to be grounded and basically be in the same place every night. Of course, then, I haven't driven as much of the world as you have, either. The MBA gets you in many doors. I know nothing of logistics so couldn't say about that one. If you plod forward, though, you can accomplish near miracles. Here I am over 60 and still going for the gold. Some people wonder why. Do you ever get too old to learn? I think not. I have also read many reports that say keeping the mind active on new things keeps Alzheimers at bay. My mom and dad never lost the desire to learn. My mom's mind was as sharp at 80 as it was at 40. May I be as blessed! Most people think that sales companies like real estate offer no opportunites to learn things that would help them in other jobs. NOT!! We are required to have math courses, state law courses, and myriad other things. I am on the second leg of my CCIM (commercial designation) and the things you learn in that will help you in many areas of life. The math is certainly more advanced than the basics required for liscensure. I'm fortunate that I have been able to have a career I love and make a living at it. It has had it's ups and downs as the economy took lifts and dips, but overall a wonderful experience. Wouldn't hurt to have an HR degree in any position you ever fill. Gives you the other side of the coin. I just have one more question, when you finish your degree will you go in business for yourself, or will you try to find a corporate position? Those are a little tougher because younger college grads will take less money and companies see the bottom line, not the experience of age. |

Hi Light..
You wrote: Light wrote: I think Christians talk too much about sin and the laws of God to start off. Those things are not what we are to spread first. we are to spread the good news of Christ. The good news is Jesus is the Christ who died for all people. The Christ takes the sins away from the world. That is the message we are to spread. As for all the sins and parts of things from doctrines, that is more for the preacher or the priest and not so much the body of Christ to be so much with because it must be the right teachings. God works his own way. We spread the word and good news and Jesus will take care of the rest. Telling people sin this kind of that kind is not bringing to Christ. It is pushing away from the Christ." Very well put.. You said it much better than I ever could.. Fear will typically drive folks away..Love draws folks toward one.. A few folks thou are also fearful of love or intimacy.. Becoming too close to Jesus can also be scary..plus we must surrender all for Jesus.. IMO.Love will win out in the end.. Thanks so much for your post.. Love, Ham |

Do you play the piano? Now that you mention Kieth Green, remember this one? Create in me a clean heart, oh God, And renew a right Spirit within me. Create in me a clean heart, oh God. And renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, oh God. Take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation, And renew a right Spirit within me. Funny how the mention of a name can make you remember songs you had forgotten for so long... Have a good day! -and if you see that Hobbes anywhere, tell him he can't run far enough to get away from me :) |
