What a bag of shit statement that was. The entire Gulf War was televised in real time on CNN. Everyone who had a TV saw the dead bodies of those civilians killed in the Ameriyya bomb shelter (played over and over again). From the start of the ground war on February 23,1991 till Bush announced the conditional ceasefire on the February 27 nobody asked for or proposed an end to the war; not the UN, not the UK, not the Arab League, not the Swedes, not even the Iraqis. Bush made the controversial decision that many (including Schwarzkopf) viewed as bringing a premature end to the war. It could be argued that had Bush continued and completely destroyed the Republican Guard, an inevitable coup de’tat would have occurred and the Iraqis would have been spared another 20 years of conflict.
