ok, all - this is to give LL her thread back......to be honest, I find her SO irksome and I'd rather not argue with her. Some of the things she writes to you all really disgust me and, if she weren't a Bible thumping blockhead, it wouldn't nearly bother me as much. I just found out a cousin of mine has gone righter than right wing and changed his name (which was of Jewish origin) to something Anglo. I have no f*cking patience for these people anymore. THEY are the greatest threat to this country, imo. And, from what I can gather from my Republican friends, they are NONE TO HAPPY that they have taken up residence in their party, either. It's going to be very interesting to see what's going to happen with the politics in this country within the next 10-12 years. IMO, "moderates" are moderate because they aren't, by nature, aggressive and back biting..because of this, their voices are not being heard as they should in the House and the Senate and that needs to change. I think, in all honesty, that MOST people are relatively moderate. I will always be "unaffiliated" or Democrat because of my feelings about a woman's right to choose and because of my feelings about welfare. HOWEVER, I DO NOT approve of the way the welfare system works today. I don't think moderate Republicans are heard enough to find a decent compromise between the two parties to start reforming the system. Also, I DO believe in the death penalty, which is WAY not left of center. Life just isn't black and white.

i agree! i do not thing the welfare system works in this country. we have people who cannot get the help they deserve. yet we allow people who come here just to go on welfare and get a handout who should NOT qualify.......... then you have schools who teach in spanish, so that these children can learn in their language, who still cannot pass state tests, yet cut programs like phys ed. you have people like LL on assistance who dont need it, just because they can get it, that is what is wrong with this country. too many people with their hand out taking, not enough of us paying in. rant over! TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE.

NONE OF THE ABOVE! What a sappy list of choices. Elephants are grand because they are big and yet don't attack other animals except when first provoked. They are smart and have a sense of humor. They are inquisitive in a friendly way. You don't know anything about elephants.

TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE. Illegals are eligible due to their babies being born on American soil...how about JUST THE CHILDREN receive assistance? NOT the whole family? And, how about some of that "assistance" is daycare so the mother can go to work, trade school, etc? There ARE ways that seem simple to us and yet, once they get in the hands of the politicians, they become unreachable. I have no freakin idea what LL's deal is - frankly, she seems a little "off" to me. It's very strange when a person makes a point SO LOUDLY in a public arena and then behaves SO BLATANTLY in the opposite manner...that's just beyond weird to me. I do not believe in bringing people's children into these arguments - and, I've been known to be bitterly ravaging when someone has crossed that line with me. That's why I did not comment on Christina - I was not willing to open myself up to her coming at me about my girl in any way. But, imo, no matter what, that experience has exacerbated whatever that "cold spot" was in her already (given what she did with that poor baby) and she's just become an angry, anti-social woman. I was worried she was gonna go crazy on Joan about her not believing in God.....that would have really upset me. I think Joan is really, really trying and I think it should be recognized and appreciated. I, for one, find her interesting when she shares and gives us a little room to be friendly...that one post still haunts me and I just can't help but see that little girl who was scared, moved from home to home, probably separated from her siblings at times. THAT is another part of the welfare system that needs MORE than a tweaking...that is why I want to get involved with CASA - a program like that could have given Joan one, little piece of consistency when she was little that she could have really, really used. http://www.casaforchildren.org/site/c.mtJSJ7M...

i only bring christina up because she brought my boys into it. i know its wrong, but she pushed and i finally pushed back. when it first came up i was the one that said her daughter should be off limits. that all children should be in the postings. she didnt return the respect. to me anchor babies are wrong. and as long as we allow these babies to be used by these parents, they will continue to have them. along the texas border, these women come across and have their babies delivered by midwives who are here from mexico and deliver these babies and take food stamps as payment. these people then use the address set up by another person and get benefits and take them back to mexico. get medical assistance too. yet working taxpaying citizens in this country cant get medical help when they need it. its wrong. and i still do not understand how other industrialized countries can have universal health care and it works, but america cant. ok yeah i understand, its the insurance companies who are fighting it.

Actually, I do....but, in all honesty, the poll was meant in fun only and to start a thread that open for topic. The qualities that you list for them are also quite appropriate and wonderful, as well. However, if you think the facts that... 1. the females run and care for the herds 2. care for their babies until they grow and become adult members of the same herd, then adding their own babies, 3. adopt and care for orphaned or abandoned babies, 4. cry when they see one of their herd suffering or dead, 5. remain with any infirm herd member until they recover or pass ...are "sappy", then I have to assume you've never studied anthropology.

OK - JUST A NOTE: I started this thread, as "ellie".... The poll is for fun because of a common love of elephants but IT IS A SOCIAL THREAD AND THERE IS NO "OFF TOPIC".... ...just sayin. Kinda thought the first post got that across.

You know, if one ignores your first two sentence and the last, this would have been a fairly nice post. But this is the Internet; it appears arseholery is mandatory.

Oh! I fully understand WHY you brought it up.....and, I have VERY strong feelings about the situation. I find it nauseating - and abhorrent. There is no way I could post about it in any kind of civil of "gray area" manner. It's just better for me to keep my mouth shut. However, IF she ever came at me about my girl (and I have no idea how she could or why she would), I'd chew her up and spit her out. So, I think she and I have considered that a line neither one of us will cross with each other. I DID tell her I was biting my tongue, just so she knew how far she was pushing me. I agree about the anchor babies but I also do not feel the babies should pay the price as they've had no choice in their existence or situation. MAYBE there is a way to blend INS and Welfare with these people. IF they have an anchor baby, they receive amnesty for one year with the INS PROVIDED they register with the Gov't, find legal employment with a sponsor, engage in job training OR trade school....with day care provided for the baby....IF, after one year, they can show CONSISTENT work and movement in a positive direction, give them one more year amnesty to either USE that tech/job training or gather another year of consistent employment. IF, after 24 months, with the child being 2 and approaching age for preschool, the parent(s) have fulfilled their obligations, allow them to initiate citizenship pursuits. In addition, because of the assistance they have received from the gov't to reach this point, after they achieve citizenship, they are obligated to return a certain amount of time TO the community in some capacity - maybe literacy programs, using the trade they have learned, etc. IF they have no interest in becoming a citizen, then we know where they are and they have to go. Dual citizenship is fine - but, at some point, one MUST become a legal, tax paying citizen.

But this is the Internet; it appears arseholery is mandatory. :) "arseholery" - have to remember that. I'm taking the day off and resting today - having a bit of an RA flare so BSin' on the computer. I had a HUGE breakthrough with my book yesterday - I got to chapter 7 and got stuck, knowing it wasn't materializing the way I wanted it to. Then, yesterday, it hit me and I've been going about it all wrong - and, while most of the characters will remain and while most of the events will remain, the outcome of them is ENTIRELY different. It's a bit twisted and I reworked the first 7 chapters last night until about 3 am.....I think I want to nap before I dive back in. I hope the humor and irony translates as well as the twistedness.

Um, Ellie was a joke, I have NO idea why you think this is male bashing, and it's not a political thread. We can talk about anything and that was a carry over from another thread that we are trying to help get back on topic. What's your problem, anyway? If your looking to have a b*tch slapping fight with someone, try another thread - this isn't the place.

Realist wrote: <quoted text>How does the name Ellie and a sappy male-bashing poll denote a political thread? This is curious to me...how on earth did you deduce "male bashing" out of what's here? Is it because I made the comments about the elephants that the females raise and rule the herds? Does that upset you? Well, you gotta take that one up with God, Darwin...someone other than me because it's just a fact. Does it make you feel better if I acknowledge that the MALE ostriches are the ones who sit on and incubate the eggs? We're a little sensitive, aren't we?
