RiversideRedneck wrote: <quoted text> Everyone here can own or carry a handgun, shotgun or rifle. MOST Americans use them for leisure or defense. Few Americans (and illegals) use them for crime. Regardless, take away the guns from the citizens, they'll still be in the hands of the crooks. That's not fair play. In 2009 America's crime rate was roughly the same as in 1968, with the homicide rate being at its lowest level since 1964. Overall, the national crime rate was 3466 crimes per 100,000 residents, down from 3680 crimes per 100,000 residents forty years earlier in 1969 (-9.4%). There were 2,452,787 crimes reported in 2006; 48% were property related crimes and 12.6% were violent crimes. At a rate of 7,518 reported incidents per 100,000 people. See that?!? America: 3680 crimes per 100,000 residents. Canada: 7518 crimes per 100,000 residents. Funny - guns don't help, "eh"? Perhaps you should re-do that research.

Brother Marine wrote: <quoted text> Cohen's critique or analysis is woefully inaccurate. Of course, to those non-believers on the outside looking in, it does seem strange. To be a Christian in today's world is as highly enlightening as it is challenging. We are discovering new historical evidence that supports our beliefs. Mr. Cohen's lack of Biblical and historical understanding is evident. As Paul wrote in his letters, we are supposed to ask questions. We are not to believe blindly. Believing blindly is as bad as not believing at all. It is quite relevant regarding the narscissistic fundamentalist mindset prevalent in a great majority of Christian sects. I don't see you mentally hobbled to that degree.

It's just entertaining to me when I see atheist(or whatever you're title is) getting defensive about God...Are you only trying to convince yourself??? Seems that way. Or maybe that's what YOU'RE doing. Seems that way.

Why would you interpret it that way? I think most of the effort on this site has been atheists trying to get believers to justify their exceedingly bad behavior, if it is based on their beliefs in God. Most atheists here are well grounded in knowledge about the topics, Bible, God, Christianity - we just don't believe in it. The request by the person initiating this thread to not quote from the Bible was likely an attempt, which failed, to not waste time with logical errors, as one cannot prove the existence of a god by referring to a book that the same person claims was written or inspired by God.

Guns have a way of falling into the hands of others ILLEGALLY. What is SO hard about that for you to comprehend??? And what makes the recent tragedies even WORSE is that THOSE guns WERE purchased LEGALLY. Do you actually read people's posts? It seems like you just scan them & pick n choose a few words & focus on them... I don't even know why you're talking about illegal or legal guns because I never even mentioned that.

Good- should any of your loved ones- assuming you HAVE any- fall victim to someone using a gun on them- whether or not they own the gun LEGALLY- THEN tell me that's no reason to make guns illegal. Besides, what are you worried about? Your right to own a gun is no more in any jeopardy than the right of people to have freedom OF religion, which of course includes freedom FROM religion which of course includes the FREEDOM to stay as far away as possible from NUTBAGS like YOU. Yes, thank you. I have the freedom of or against religion, as do you (thank you America). We also have the right for or against guns. Because you don't like guns (as do others), that doesn't mean the rest of America has to follow you. In turn, just because I (and many others) believe in God, doesn't mean you ghave to follow me.

Hey! If it advances science, we're in! <wink-wink> <thinks -- if it doesn't, we're in anyway> Unlike religion, science isn't in direct competition with sex when it comes to giving people what they want. Religion's in direct competition with both, science and sex. Yes... we must me thorough and meticulous. Suggestion... We start out simple and just run the routine over and over (and over and over and over)... with as many different physical configurations as we can come up with. We need to ensure *nothing* is overlooked.
