I also think Stephen Stills plays a mean guitar...

Robin Trower is incredible. heck this thread could go on and on and on....

They are truly stellar, each and everone mentioned, or we would not be throwing up (sorry, bad choice of words!) their names!

Happy weekend all!

I saw him several years back when the original Black Sabbath got together. It was breathtaking. I was about 30 feet from him the whole show. Pantera opened up for them and I got to see Darrel Abbott for the last time before he was murdered. I was supposed to go to the Damageplan concert the night after he was killed. RIP DIME.
But yes, Toni Iommi was one of my bigges influences growing up, and I still love playing their tunes every night. peace.

if you don't like the heavy stuff, you'll like this, from the same men behind the heavy tunes, but different band, different style, for sure.(hard to believe, the two voices and guitarist could be the same!!!)

These are all great guitarists, but they are blues guitarists and the subject is rock guitarists.

hey buddy! Yea, I had taken a friends son to the music store to get his first guitar and I picked up a mexican strat and plugged it in. He likes this Schecter and brings it to me:http://www.schecterguitars. com/spec.asp?id=51#
and I played it for about 20 minutes, I didn't want to put it down. The neck was fast, it sounded great (plugged into a small mini marshall) so he took it home! I don't remember what he paid for it, but it was comparable to the mex strat I would have had him get.I hear he's getting pretty good on it!
talk to ya soon friend! peace.

My personal list is based on my belief that guitar playing is not an athletic sport (speed-substance=crap) neither is it a spectacle of showmanship. Many of the names I see here fall into that category. My list, based on the mood I'm in would include (but not be limited to) the following:

Lead Guitarists:

Frank Zappa
Robert Fripp
John McLaughlin
Jimi Hendrix
Adrian Belew
Jimmy Page
Keith Richards
Steve Vai
Eric Johnson
Joe Satriani
Alan Holdsworth
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Trey Gunn
David Gilmore
Carlos Santana
Steve Hackett
Steve Howe
Martin Barre
Wes Montgomery

Rhythm Guitarists:

Ron Wood
Andy Summers
Pete Townsend

Thanks Jim. I love the older AC/DC.

I've got dial up and I'm downloading it now so I should be able to listen to it in about 5-6 hours. LOL

Hey JW. I think I'm the only one who's mentioned the Motor City Madman Ted Nugent to date. To me its kind of unbelievable, especially when Kieth Richards gets mentioned so often.

I'm no guitar expert but KR guitar seems vanilla to me.

Just curious of what you think of Teds guitar?

Now now, play nice boys...remember, take your aggression out on the guitar not on each other.

love uncle ted. I've learned most of his popular tunes over the years. We currently do "cat scratch fever" and "stranglehold" in our live shows.
man, dial-up??? I remember waiting like 20 minutes to watch a short megadeth video Dave Mustain had on his website, so I can feel real sympathy for the music fans out there with dial up. Just makes me realize how much i take for granted my "slower" cable internet that I am getting charged way too much for!
peace.
