Legacy Farms Kennel, owned by Katie & Josh Ritter ~ Winfield MO

Has anyone heard of this kennel? I am fairly sure that it is a puppy mill. If anyone has purchased a puppy from them, I would love to talk to you. Thanks!

This is the email that I have sent to Legacy Farms...trying to get some information.
May I ask how many breeding dogs that you have at your kennel? How many different types of dogs do you breed, and for the English Golden Doodle, how often do you breed the same dog (the female)? For the litter that I saw on the website (next day pets, i think) how often do you breed that litter's mother? Are the dogs that you breed your pets and cared for as such? The dog named "Rosebud", how often do you breed her? How many litters of puppies has she had? I thought that I saw her picture on another website or somewhere and she had a different name?? How many female English and American Golden Retrievers do you have? I just want to make sure that this is not a puppy mill.

Still no response to the email that I sent. I will wait it out!

I HAVE PURCHASED NOT ONLY ONE PUPPIE FROM HERE BUT 2....FIRST I BOUGHT ONE THEN THE BROTHER WAS FOR SELL SO WE BOUGHT HIM TOO... I HAD NOTHING BUT GOOD EXPERIENCES WITH JOSH AND KATIE...THE PUPPIES WERE FLOWN HERE (PITTSBURGH, PA) AND THEY WERE IN VERY GOOD HEALTH .. THEY WERE SHIPPED IN A LARGE CRATE WITH FOOD , WATER AND ALSO BABY WIPES IN CASE THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT..THEY CAME AT DIFFERENT TIMES BUT I WAS VERY SATISFIED... THE VET SAID THEY WERE IN VERY GOOD HEALTH...THEY ARE SO LOVING AND JUST AWESOME... I WOULD DEAL WITH JOSH AND KATIE AGAIN...THEY HAD ALL THEIR SHOTES AND ALSO IDENTIFYING CHIPS...

That is great, but you are totally missing the point. This is a PUPPY MILL. Therefore when you purchase a pup from them, the money that they get goes right back to their breeding program, and you're enabling them to continue to mass produce puppies. If you had actually seen where the puppy came from, you wouldn't have bought them. Think about the dogs that are being BRED. They are not cared for as pets. They are simply a money making machine. Popping out puppy after puppy. They have no life. No comfy bed to sleep in. Think about THAT before buying a puppy from a mill.

If you want to buy a mutt go to a shelter and rescue a puppy. Why would you want to encourage businesses such as these by giving them money? This is not a legit breeder because they do not breed muts.

The email that I sent to them was actually to get info out of them. It wasn't sent because I, myself, am interested. I am trying to get their name out there so people will not buy from them.

It is not wise to try to start a campaign to hurt someone's business on the Internet, no matter how heinous you may think they are. I agree puppy mills are terrible and I wish they were illegal. Unfortunately, those folks could sue you if you try to hurt their ability to sell puppies. Best advice to give anyone interested in buying a puppy would be to NEVER get on on the Internet. Go to a pound and rescue a puppy or dog. I'm not sure what I feel about some of these so called reputable breeders either because some of them can be very prolific breeders. They may not be as bad as a puppy mill but some have been quite close. Keep reminding people of how cruel a puppy mill is and hopefully by educating, people will not buy pups from those kinds of places.

No, I wouldn't say that anyone is starting a campaign to hurt someone's business. It is simply making people aware of what & who they are dealing with.

Please don't try to pretend you are just checking Legacy Farms out. People with a mindset like you are out to stop the breeding of every animal. No kill bills for horses, and so now they stand in pastures and suffer, no slaughter bills for cattle, sheep and goats etc.....I have been to Legacy Farms and adopted a puppy 2 yrs ago. EVERYONE that has more than 3 breeds is not a puppymill. Why don't you use your time and efforts to bother someone who is actually abusing their animals?

The definition of a puppy mill, according to Wikipedia is: A puppy mill, sometimes known as a puppy farm, is a commercial dog breeding facility that is operated with an emphasis upon profits above animal welfare and is often under substandard conditions regarding the well-being of dogs in their care.

This is NOT Legacy Farms.

The definition of an ethical breeder, according to Wikipedia is:Ethical breeders raise their animals with the intent to produce a healthy dog, and to insure that all animals are provided for responsible homes. Ethical breeders carefully nurture the mothers and the puppies they produce. They check the puppies' health, and ensure they are properly socialized.

This IS Legacy Farms

Puppy mills are also kennels that are not inspected by the state they are in. Legacy Farms is a state licensed and inspected kennel. They are also AKC inspected. Josh and Katie, along with the breeders who are members in Missouri of the PPA and the MPBA, are ethical breeders. They educate themselves on animal health and keep their places clean and their animals are not bred until the day they die, every time they come into heat, as you have insinuated.

This is a young couple that is doing a great job of caring for their animals and provide great customer service to boot!! Would they offer a 2 yr health guarantee if they were breeding sick or old overbred dogs? No.

Lastly let me say that statements like "you saw Rosebud on another site with another name" and "I caught them in a lie a couple of times (via email)","Legacy Farms has not been in business that long", "This is a PUPPY MILL" are going to leave you open to be sued. Slander, defamation of character and willful intent to harm are all foundations for a legal battle. Every business has to open at some point. Thats like saying that every new business is no good just based on the fact that they haven't been in business very long.

I'm happy to say, I, as a customer of theirs, know that none of your accusations are true. As for their not inviting you to their home on a given day could mean the house was a mess, baby was fussy or they didn't have time to pick the poop up out of their back yard. Whatever the reason, it is their right to allow anyone they choose to their home. If you don't like it then buy from someone else. What young woman with two young children should be expected to invite strangers into her home just because they claim they are looking for a puppy? You admitted here for all to read that you fraudulently portrayed yourself as a potential customer in an attempt to trap them. Shame on you.

I JUST got a puppy from them and would have to agree that they are not a puppy mill, or people who do not care for their dogs. I have been watching this site and listening to others comment about Legacy Farms, and listened to the wrong people. I am very happy with our pup. He is precious. I just wish that I would have followed my gut instinct that everything was FINE with this kennel, and not the opinion of others. I had an aquaintance that was trying to get info out of them, and I must say that all the things that were said about them, and people trying to get me to change my mind, were wrong. I would do business with them again, and again.

I guarantee you that if you do some more research on this Legacy Farms, you will not like what you see. Karyn, I feel sorry for you that you went ahead and purchased a pup from them. This is either a puppy mill or a backyard breeder greeder.

You must really feel proud of yourself. While your on the band wagon for the elimination of cruel treatment of animals, why don't you do something worthwhile like speaking out against abortion. have you ever watched a film of a fetus being cut up and dismembered. AND HERE YOU SCREAM ABOUT DOGS.

we got our 2 pugs, Teddy & Bella in 2007. what great dogs! we love them so much they love everyone! they don't have a mean bone in their bodies.they r healthy, happy & we r too because of them. if you think they r a puppy mill so be it. but it is the second time in my life that i have gotten dog's from suspected puppy mills. with great resultes! i had great contact with Katie at all times. she talked about my kids knowing how important they where to us.she talked to me like my babies were part of family. i can't thank them enough.

We got our cavapoo from these guys 6 months ago and they were incredible! we were kept up to date every step of the way about how he was doing.

He ended up having to have surgery for a hernia and they actually contacted us BEFORE the surgery and made sure we were aware of what was going on. They offered to give us another dog or our money back if we wanted, but we were happy with the dog we had purchased. Not only that but they neutered him for us at the same time so he wouldn't have to go through 2 surgeries as a puppy.

yeah they sound like horrible people who don't care about dogs.

got our Cavapoo puppy from them in January-he has been the best dog. He has had no behavioral problems you might see with a dog that was poorly cared for. Katie was very informative and helpful..our vet said that he was a very healthy dog and the breeder did a perfect job with the vaccinations and everything. I would recommend these breeders to anyone.

All I have to say is I kinda got sick of reading your comments @banpuppymills ... I support the ban of puppy mills but Josh and Katie are not one, they are bbb accredited I even double checked to make sure they also don't fit the criteria for a puppy mill ... I have the most wonderful maltipoo from them and they even emailed to check on her a few months later ... they are very awesome people and I 100% stand by them....just because they don't answer to your rude email doesn't mean they are a puppy mill

Then why do they not let you visit their facility? Come on people. Wake up. That is a huge red flag.

You may get your nice sweet puppies, but think about the parents of those puppies. Bred over and over, living in horrible conditions.
