Mafia behind Aussie Backpacker's death-my theory

Before all passionate Croatian loving nationals jump up, and condemn my views I want to remind everybody that this is about a young lady, a beloved daughter, it could have been your sister or best friend who was back packing through Europe (like we all do or have set our dreams upon experiencing!!)..loosing her life in a most henious crime, in a country she had just arrived in with a heart and passion for travel, beautiful landscapes and new international friendships..
Nobody intentionally LOOKS for FOUL PLAY!!...My immediate theory is that Britt Lapthorne's drink was spiked, and hello it's been recorded as a spinelees crime in the US for over 20 years and yes, it happens here in Australia too for the last 15 years I suspect. I have seen two very well-educated, well-respected friends, one a 56 y.o male and one 30 odd something girlfriend at the mercy of a drug spiked cocktail...and that person has lost ALL COMPREHENSION,ALL REASON, and more than likely COMPLETE BODILY FUNCTION. This is not the person who have always known whom has become a victim of crime...
My susupicions is that sometime during the evening she was last seen at the Nightclub Britt was targeted as prey and the predators were on her trail. Whether she was followed back to her hostel, followed and ambushed walking to the hostel...these details are yet to be discovered..
Croatia is a very differently governed country to what we are accostmed to in Australia. Three main families of the Mafia house within the Government and it is no HEADLINE that nightclubs within the country pay fees to the Mafia to protect their business premises, and HUMAN TRAFFICKING is one of the THREE MAJOR crime syndicates that the Mafia are involved in.
For god sakes, who is safe??..A prominent Zagrebian lawyers 26yo daughter was gunned down with two bullets to the head at close range assanination style less than 6 days ago...Just a few days before our Aussie Britt's body was identified.
Before I read anymore hate mail re. Britt being a blonde...a white girl...she deserved what she got..I ask? HAVE YOU NO HEART?? Human Trafficking crimes are happening to your own Croation and Balkan sisters and I assure you should that be found to be happening in our country we too would not left any stone unturned in finding your national.
I am not condeming the people. I am just a girl who likes to travel too, and am sorrow that around ANY corner we could meet with EVIL???
Britt has met with FOUL PLAY; perhaps she was a sacrificial lamb to scare other kidnapped, forcebly held and drugged European ladies into forced prositution?? And I'm not saying Croatia or the Balkans want SEX SLAVES...but it doesn't escape my mind the WEST, ARAB countries perhaps even the U.S. are fuelling this business??
All I want to say is...who will ever know the truth? Do we really want to know the truth?? Your stomach can churn a million times hearing the torture Britt must have endured - dead or even possibly alive?? And why might we not know the truth? The Government is mostly controlled by the Mafia and the Mafia do what they have to do to control one of their three most lucrative business' and if there are witnesses you can most certainly presume they have been intimidated into not telling the truth for fear of retribution on their own lives and that of their families..
Tell me, isn't it just a tad ironic, just that night, just that evening when Britt was in the bar, just when it could be witnessed that yes her drink was spiked which inevitabely the beginning of the end - THERE WAS AN ELECTRONIC GLITCH and servaliance is unreliable if not now fabricated? Wake up, smell the roses...I'm only sorry the Lapthorne's daughter will never have a chance to smell the sweet aroma of life anymore..R.I.P may the Angels above embrace you tightly.

You raise some valid points in your writings. Eastern Europe is awash with all sorts of mafia related crime (kidnapping etc).
Tourist-filled regions of Croatia such as Dubrovnik do have a mafia presence, however they are mostly Russian Mafia, who purchased large volumes of real estate over the last 10 years.
Despite all this, I don't believe locals (Croatians) have anything to do with it. It is their backyard after all, and I don't see why any locals would want to commit a murder in their own village, and risk being caught or suffer the negative impact on tourism. After all, why sh*t in your own backyard.
There are plenty of foreigners/tourists in Dubrovnik, who would have ample opportunity to commit such a crime and then leave the town relatively unnoticed. That seems more likely to me, perhaps someone she knew.
Just my thoughts. Either way, very sad.

I am so sad for this poor girl. It could and I guess will still happen to unsuspecting victims of crime...To be so alone in a foreign country finding yourself in such a predicament, I guess she would have for the lack of a better word, "wanted to die"...reading of the atrocities that have been subjected to her body is pure evil. It is very sad what happened to Britt,but before we all jump to conclusions,these people have to be proven guilty.One of the backpackers has said that Britt was looking for the Croation guys and asked him where they were.Doesnt sound like she was forced into the van to me.Another person said she was "very open.Promiscous"Sure she doesnt deserve to die for this,but women and girls have to be more careful with how they act,especially in these countries.I am half European and have lived over in Europe.The Eastern European countries are totally different to USA and Australia,and women from Australia and USA are a lot looser than in these countries.

Im a Croatian Australian who is currently living in Croatia, and i can tell you that the Croatian mafia doesnt kidnapp tourists most mafia activity is in privatisation and contsruction, because there less likely to get caught, good mony and have high officals backing them up, check up on the internet, im sorry to hear about her, but why come to conclusions ? for all we know she mite have whent for a quick swim and drowned.

This sucks, but it's true:

You're not safe if you're a young, single woman who's traveling the world alone.

It shouldn't be that way, but it is. That's not fair, but that's the way it is. Be safe and travel with others. If you can't find others who want to travel with you, take organized tours. Don't backpack it by yourself.

You're a girl who likes to travel, too. Well, do so wisely. Travel in groups and don't ever be alone.
