Your problems started loooong before the Mexicans
joined your assembly belts - the Japanese got you by the balls allready in the beginning of the '70ies
and you haven't seen them since and will not see them the next 40 years either. You need a completely new thinktank - all of you! just look at your dollar these days - it's probably only the beginning. So tidy up before it's too late and forget the Mexicans.
You cannot afford to be without them -that's the truth whether you like it or not!

This is due to over regulation, over lawyering and attacks by the unions. It does not make sense to have US humans make cars, give the jobs to robots and chinese mexiacans.

I'm an American who has immigrated to china. Notice to you guys back home. You design it, we make it. Very soon we will do all the making. Flip side, all the Chinese companies will be owned and managed by Americans. Lets be honest, we can make it better and cheaper than you can. There is zero future for mass manufacturing there. On the other hand the Chinese couldn't design or manage their way out of a paper bag. Consequence? Huge opportunity here for Americans to come here and own and manage these terribly inefficiently run firms. They need us to manage just like we need them to make

Only under conditions. That we can ramp it up in China, prevent a robust Industrial Revolution or civil revolt or economic collapse, by using Henry Ford tactics to build a middle class there and prevent a WW III with the USA in the future, while uniting the world in a common cause.

China comes up and they become buyers of the world and everyone wins with 1.3 Billion buyers. Imagine that. It was a think tank discussion recently? Intresting stuff to think of, indeed remember China is still communist and yet, not in the same sense as Communism is often referred to in history, today it is a hibred in construction. I hope there are others thinking here>?

You must understand Jeff, I am getting bored at 40 years old being retired from entrepreneurship. Here is an interesting story; One gentleman, a globalist I met with discussed the reality of perhaps even merge the nations if it is feasible in the future. I discussed with him the option of Franchising all nation's governments of the world and any colonies established off the planet in the same common cause, as it will be an issue within 150 years. It is amazing the stuff you talk about in hotel lobbies while traveling abroad? Ha Ha Ha.

We are making many errors in this nation attacking our industry and over lawyering, we are chasing jobs away. Meanwhile we blame someone else for our ridiculous over regulation and political correctness speed bumps to the reality of efficiency. One thing Bob is not mentioning is that Chinese are becoming entrepreneurs themselves and they are designing things too and learning our best qualities of free-enterprise and innovation, but dismissing the onerous regulations and political correctness rhetoric and debris, blob of bureacucracy and pettiness.

This gives them the advantage and we are simply not watching or caring about the competitive reality of world markets, been to India lately? Whooaaaah! Watching them grow is truly incredible too. We need to get off our butts here, well that is if we want what I got; No prisoners approach to innovation, diehard can do attitude and the entrepreneurship spirit of a hypomanic.

We have what it takes to revamp Motor City, but no one has the balls to clear the debris and the politics is killing American Industry. If no one else is going to fight, well, let's just say I remain retired as an observer? Smile. Life is good either way, but I wish indeed we might solve our problems here as well.

I have indeed considered this. And was rather apalled in Pearl Harbor USS Arizona Tour, when the tour guide told myself and many Japanese Tourists that is was one of the greatest surprise attacks in warfare history? Real great?

Read history and how your President caused it. Over and over again in exercises beforehand it was demonstrated that Pearl had no defense to surprise attack. Of course the Japs hit it after that, because no secret was mae of the fact and nothing was done to make it more secure.
Have every sympathy over the loss of life, but get the facts right.

So what your saying is that the president of the United States caused the attack on Pearl Harbor.

It wasnt the Japanese govt. or thier leaders ordering thier forces to attack, but the President of the U.S., because they didnt install some type of early warning device and that caused the Japanese military to attack without provocation or warning.

Maybe you want to re-think your comments, I dont know if anyone thought that statement was stupid, maybe they did and just figured it wasnt worth a response, I dont know Stan, one would hope, in fact, like to believe, that fellow human beings would cherish life more than that, of course we know thats not the case, so in going with your theory, maybe each country should build NUKES, a defense system, and cut off ties with each other, including trade, maybe each country should go it alone and use their own resources to better our lives and keep a watchful eye on the scumbags in other countries to see if they are ready to attack us or not, SOUNDS good to me.......... will that work for you.........

On Pearl NOT what I was saying, though he may have been "goading them into attacking". I was stating that there were several exercises showing Pearl could not be defended that were publicly know , nothing was done about it and thus naturally the Japs chose there to attack. Take it from there in how you view.
As to Nukes while any ONE nation has them there is no MORAL reason to deny another NATION having them for "DEFENCE",. As the firing of any Nuke BOMB carrying missile will with the level of those bombs today compared with the "toys" used on Japan, then the whole world will get "fallout" and just a few will be devistating for the whole of humanity. The only lucky ones will be at "ground zero". It seems to be a point most people cannot grasp as they glibly say "Nuke em". They cannot even see this when you point out that the use by the US of Nuke MUNITIONS (DU) in Bosnia and both excursions in Iraq and now possibly in the Leb through what they supplied Israel has already set in motion a process with an estimated 700 million casualties (2 million of which will be within the US, that is through various cancer deaths, and genetic damage to unborn generations leading to anything from destroyed foetus to all sorts of defects when born, something that will last for generations. As the US is the only nation that makes uses and supplies these they are creating the "worst crime against Humanity" ever. I get responses that it is only "alpha" and not dangerous but anyone who ingests, breaths it or gets it in a wound are condemned. Perhaps the recent poison case of the Russian in the UK may wake people up to this finally especially when they realise the quantity used there was lower than one trillionth of what the use of these weapons generated in EITHER of the Iraq wars. I actually am an ex Nuke scientist and through an accident over 30 yrs ago recognised the dangers of these weapons got out and have campaigned against them ever since. I have also long lobbied for ALL NATIONS to DESTROY all NUKE BOMB/ MISSILES. But as I said before while one nation has them there is no MORAL justification to stop another developing on "DEFENCE" claima, despite what you may know is the result to HUMANITY if they are ever used. I trust that makes it clear.

TOYOTA made by the same folks that bombed Perl Harbor.

Bubba, everything you said is true, with one minor flaw. Not ALL autoworkers are lazy! I am a soon to be ex-ford employee who, yes, makes an excellent per hour wage, but, there are a few people I know, including myself, who do everything possible to earn that wage. Unless you've been there yourself, there's no way possible to know these things. However, EVERYBODY involved in making a Ford product has to take responsibility for the failing business. Best of luck to you and yours!

Lance,

Good comments.

China and other emerging markets are going to kick America's butt while unions and politicians whine and blame management.

It's unfortunate.

Mike,

My uncle is a Ford retiree as well. He worked his way up, and was an executive in Detroit for most of his career (some of it at other manufacturers, but most at Ford).

I was just looking at new F150s today. They are a great product. You guys are doing a great job with that truck. I'll probably be picking one up in the spring unless I can get a better deal elsewhere.(My family and I are all in the auto industry, so I get employee deal at Ford and Chrysler and supplier at GM.) I have a vested interest in the US auto industry doing well.

I do have one question though. would you be making that excellent per hour wage doing the same work someplace else, or without the extortion by the UAW of Ford?

If the answer is no, that's one of the issues facing the auto industry today.
