A Catastrophic Earthquake About To Occur?

Scientists have alerted British Columbia's emergency-planning department to the possibility of a catastrophic earthquake striking the province's southwest coast this week, according to a Rocky Mountain News story. Garry Rogers, a seismologist at the Pacific Geoscience Center on Vancouver Island is quoted in the story as saying, "Everyone drives their car every day, and the probability of getting in a car accident is small. But during rush hour, the probability of getting into an accident is much higher. Well, Vancouver Island is now driving in rush hour." The threat presently posed to the Pacific Northwest can't be understated if Rogers' theory is accurate as he may be basing his theory on activity taking place along what is referred to as the Cascadia subduction zone. What could activity in this region bring about? One potential answer is found in a Columbian.com article which predates the Rocky Mountain News article linked above (emphasis added mine to demonstrate corroboration): Imagine an earthquake strong enough to snap the coastline like a rubber band, and you have an idea of the hazard presented by a "megathrust" earthquake along the 700-mile-long Cascadia subduction zone. In fact, a portion of that subduction zone is moving right now. "That's a spooky thing," said Tim Melbourne, an associate professor of geophysics at Central Washington University. It really is a spooky thing, to say the least, especially when one considers that Vancouver and Seattle, both major population centers, could be virtually destroyed, as well as other areas of the Pacific Northwest, particularly if a tsunami is generated! Remember the impact the December 26th, 2005 tsunami had in terms of casualties? Over 300,000 people died. The earthquake that caused that tsunami event was roughly the equivalent of setting off 32 billion tons of TNT. We could see an earthquake of 9.0 or even greater if the 700-mile-long Cascadia subduction zone snaps the west coast like a rubber band! If a 10.0 earthquake were to occur, for example, the force would be the equivent of 1 trillion tons of TNT being detonated. Luke 21:11: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. The threat posed by the Cascadia subduction zone will be in effect until approximately February 16th so, if you live in an area that could be impacted by a major event like this, make sure you have some food, water and other necessary items stored away ---- just in case. What should the rest of us be doing during this perilous time? Praying for the 16th to arrive without incident, for the sake of our brothers and sisters in Christ living in the areas presently in harm's way at this time. Keep looking up! Jesus Christ is Lord and He is coming soon! |

Just to play devil's advocate, they've been saying this for about 25 years now! Along with World War 3, the great meltdown of the icecaps (well, maybe this one actually might happen), the greatest hurricane of all ages, the life-ending gigantic meteor strike and the largest volcanic eruption of all times, these are just fueling the 'Apocalypse is near' crowds by saying what could potentially happen in a given (improbable) situation and circumstances and reporting the worst-case scenario effects it might have.

Quake rattles India's Andaman islands
56 minutes ago PORT BLAIR, India (AFP)- A strong 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck off India's Andaman islands, triggering panic on some islands of a repeat of the 2004 tsunami, officials and witnesses said. The earthquake occurred at 4:17 pm (1047 GMT), some 625 kilometres (387 miles) southeast of the local capital Port Blair, according to the police control room here. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties following the quake, it said. Residents of the archipelago's southernmost Campbell Bay island cluster, wrecked by the December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, left home and sought higher ground, local officials reached by telephone said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070211...aquake... |

Two earthquakes measuring 3.6 and 4.5 on the Richter Scale were felt from the Negev Desert to the Sharon region in central Israel at around 12:15 a.m. Saturday.
No injuries or damage were reported. Rami Hofstetter of the Geophysical Institute of Israel told Ynet that the earthquakes were small to moderate in magnitude, adding that the epicenter was on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea. The earthquakes occurred about a minute apart, he said. “The chair I was sitting on began to wobble,” a Rishon Letzion resident recounted,“but the house itself did not shake.” http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7...363159... Wow - earthquakes are growing in intensity and frequency at a quickening rate. Especially the locations of them are interesting. |

Quake shakes Elazığ, dozens injured in panic
Saturday, February 10, 2007 ISTANBUL - TDN with wire dispatches A moderate quake shook the province of Elazığ in the east of the country early on Friday, injuring around three dozen people in the ensuing panic. The earthquake, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, was followed by around a dozen aftershocks. The earthquake was felt in neighboring provinces, and at least 35 people were hospitalized after jumping from balconies and windows, in fear of being trapped in their homes, Governor Muammer Muşmal said. The quake caused cracks on walls but no serious damage, he added. He said their teams had reached outlaying villages for damage assessments, with no major damage or casualties reported. Muşmal said he had contacted the Boğaziçi University Kandilli Earthquake Research Center that had told him that no major aftershocks were expected, but that the entire region was in a earthquake zone. http://www.turkishdailynews.com.tr/a...... |

Nearly 60,000 evacuated in Mozambique floods in past week
Feb 11 4:23 PM US/Eastern More than 58,000 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas bordering Mozambique's flooding Zambezi river in the past week, the state national disaster management institute (INGC) said. Floods in the central provinces of Tete, Zambezia, Manica and Sofala have claimed 29 lives since December, destroyed thousands of homes, and some 165,000 people living along the river basin are in immediate danger, spokesman Belarmino Chivambo told AFP. "If the floods continue, this figure can increase to 285,000 in the coming days," he said. Those evacuated were taken to 18 accommodation centres where they were given maize, water, mosquito repellent and water purification equipment, he said. Twenty boats and two helicopters were involved in 24-hour evacuation and monitoring exercises. The rescue operation made necessary by floods caused by incessant downpours since December was expected to cost the country up to 24 million dollars, Chivambo said. http://www.breitbart.com/news/na/070....3ymda... |

Israel not accepting or rejecting Mecca deal, Olmert says In first public response to understandings reached between Fatah and Hamas, prime minister tells cabinet Israel is studying agreement's details and will then make its stance known Ronny Sofer Published: 02.11.07, 16:19 / Israel News Israel is not accepting or rejecting the agreement signed in Mecca between Fatah and Hamas, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said at the start of the cabinet meeting Sunday. "Israel is studying the details of the agreements and will then make its stance known," he said. The new unity government, according to Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, will honor the agreements signed by the Palestinian Authority, but will not recognize Israel. Earlier, Olmert spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose country was one of the first to welcome the agreement and to call on the international community to lift the economic siege imposed on the PA. "I was pleased to hear from him that Russia continues to stick to the Quartet's principles. This is also Israel's stance," the prime minister said, reiterating the list of demands from the Palestinians. According to Olmert, the international community was also studying "what was achieved, what was said and what was the basis for the agreement, if such a basis exists. We have held a series of urgent talks, both the foreign minister and I." Other ministers also refrained from commenting on the issue, explaining that they would first like to study the details of the agreement. more..........http://www.ynetn ews.com/articles/0,7...363675, 00.html |

5.6? People in San Francisco wouldn't get out of bed for that one. If that's a sign that 'the big one' is coming,'God' better come up with something more impressive. |

Chunks of tar are washing up on the beaches from San Francisco to Monterey. These are belched up from the ocean floor. There's some movement going on. It's been quiet for a while so we're due for a big one. My bet is on the Hayward fault. The The Loma Prieta earthquake, 7.1 on the Richter scale, actually. A 5.6 would just have me checking on elderly neighbors to make sure they didn't fall down.

I would not start pointing out what
appears to be a sudden rash of earthquakes. At any given time during any day of the week there are at least 12 earthquakes around the globe. http://visz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/woalert.php... |

The 16th is less than 12 hours away and still nada. However, I'll give you the benefit of a doubt and I'll wait an additional 12 hours until I begin my 'I told you so' song and dance routine ;)
Don't worry, have no fear, the apocalypse ain't near! |
