Trial lawyers could win bonanza in health care reform

Full story: CNN

You've heard the saying: "In war, amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics." The political equivalent: "Amateurs talk ideology -- professionals talk interest groups." Small but sophisticated interest groups use big political battles to gain special advantages.

Obama is in bed with the Trial lawyers. That's not news.

Thats why he refuses to even touch Tort reform. The one thing that actually would bring costs down. Corruption is so rampant in our government that its a wonder we have a government at all. Perhaps its time for the military to step in and restore our constitution.

The nation's trial lawyers group appears to be struggling amid mounting debt and a decline in membership dues.

The American Association for Justice, the trade group for plaintiffs' attorneys, had more than $6.2 million deficit in its operating budget for the fiscal year ending July 31, 2008, The Washington Times reported Monday.

The newspaper noted that the Washington-based trial lawyers group saw its income from membership dues drop from $28.6 million in 2005 to $19.2 million in 2008, according to a report filed with the Internal Revenue Service.

The Times also reported that the AAJ's filings for the past four years show that the group's operating revenue went from $36.7 million in 2005 to $28.6 million in 2008. At the same time, the group's total yearly expenses remained about $34 million.

The figures, which are the most current available, were reported as the AAJ seeks to block legal reforms such as reducing medical malpractice litigation as a part of President Barack Obama's push for a national health care overhaul.

Most recently, the association launched an advertising campaign against the Obama administration's plans to allow state-run pilot programs aimed at finding alternatives to lawsuits as means of settling medical malpractice claims.

That is very interesting information. They seem to have tons of money to spread around to democrats but none to pay their own bills.

Complain all you want until you need a good lawyer and then we'll watch you go crying into the office and asking for a discount. Of course, all you money went to that doctor who saved your life so now what? Maybe you could get a loan from a friendly banker without losing your house.

How about a constitutional amendment barring all attorneys from holding public office of any kind.

With over 70% of the world's lawyers, the United States has become the most overly litigious society on the face of the planet.

Take a subway ride. All you see are ads for lawyers touting how much they've "earned" for thier clients. Then, take a trip to a state that has Tort Reform, such as Texas. People are doing just fine, and lawyers are relegated to advertising where they belong.... in the Yellow Pages.

It's our national heritage.
If I remember my high school American history correctly there was something known as the stamp act that caused a lot of grief and quarreling. Someone in the class had the presence of mind to ask what exactly the stamp act was and Les Bowman answered that it was, in effect, a tax on legal action and colonial Americans loved to sue each other about everything and they didn't think they should have to pay to get into court. Something of the sort. I should look it up some day.

I figure it's easier to post it here and have some right wing kook answer beginning "I am appalled by your ignorance...." and go on the relate what he read in some tract.

Tort reform would only raise costs . A large percentage of illness are iatrogenic, the result of prarmaceuticals and other medical treatment. Almost all prescriptions and operations are useless and harmful.

The reason health care costs are skyrocketing is because the pharmaceutical companies are the richest most powerful corporations onh the globe . Their drugs are not only ineffective, they are highly dangerous . The main efect of pharmaceuticals is to increas profits of pharmaceutical companies and to make doctors rich because if people don't get a prescription when they go to the doctor they stop going .

Lawyers know sleeze when they smell. They went to Washington and bought themselves a Democratic Party. The sick joke is on our children.

I beg to differ on that one. You are, though, right regarding the pharms and their influence. It is amazing that after all the monies spent on 'cancer research' there isn't a cure. Entities like the American Cancer Society are scams.
I am intrigued by the properties of food grade hydrogen peroxide (35% I believe) and its ability to knock out cancerous cells. Watch how much longer it will be available to the general public. Anything that the pharms can do to further their monopolies. They will have a tough time with sodium bicarbonate, since baking soda is in practically every household.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Leo

If you ask someone to give you a hand today, don't be surprised if they make a mess of it. That's probably because their mind isn't on the job, but it might also be because your instructions aren't as clear as usual. So before you get angry, check that what you said made sense. Relations with someone older or more influential than you could also be blighted by confusion or doubt now.
