I think it is a good idea to put the bible back in school becouse it teaches kid values. This would lower the crime rates, teen pregnancy in school and teach kid not to bully and pray on the weak.

Yeah I agree we should have the bible in schools in the Library, under the FICTION section with all the other fairy tales.

I'm thingking maybe the Torah or the Smritis. The Bible had it's chance and couldn't cut it. Time to let some new blood in. |

Obviously this idea could never fly in a public school. Church and State don't mix.

The public school room is not the proper place for inculcating children with superstition. Leave that to the churches, synagogs and mosques.

I'm Christan I think instead of the Bible, School prayer would be more inclusive. Let everyone pray as they see fit for 5 minutes every morning.

Hey, maybe if you were tought some good values form the bible you wouldn't think of doing anything like that. This shows how the bible would make schools less violent. |

Absolutely not. There is a good reason for separation of chruch and state, and those lessons can be learned by seeing the oppression that goes on in the Middle East where it is common practice to mix religion with politics, education, and every other aspect of life.
Also, if the Bible would be allowed, since we have the freedom of religion, the Koran, Torah, and every other religous book of faith would also haveto be allowed. Bet that wouldn't set very well with those who want the Bible in schools.... If a parent wants his child to have a parochial education, that parent should send his/her child to a parochial school. Anyway, would you want educators teaching religion? |

Hey, prayer is a good idea. Why not allow prayer and the bible in school? |

Religion should be taught in the home, not a public school! End of debate.

Here, although of course no actual class time can be taken away, the students may get together on their own before school or at recess and pray as they wish. I don't see a problem with that as there is no coercion to do so or not to do so and no particular religion is favored. But if the school would institute having a 5 minute prayer session, then that crosses the line. There are always those who may not choose to worship at all, then this leads to a form of discrimination for which the school could be sued and it would most definitely lose for crossing the line in the first place. Let the kids choose, they do a good job here of monitoring themselves on this, and if taught well at home, this carries over when they aren't at home. |

the bible is not the only book that teaches kids values. there are hundreds of childrens books that offer the same lessons of value, and in a more creative (and easier to understand) fassion. Many of the stories in the bible are left for interpretation while childrens books have stories and morals that are simpler and easier for the children to grasp. i don't believe that the bible would truly lower the rates of teen pregnancy and bullies. And if a parent believes that it would then it is their responsibility as a parent to raise their kid properly, not the school or the teachers. |

Sure, why not. But on the child's own time. They can pray at lunch. I don't want my kids wasting their time with religion when they have real learning to do. |

have you let your children so out of control that you would have to force religion on them to teach them moral values? aisn't that the parents' job? to teach their children right from wrong?...I know that I turned out to be an ok person, and I have always chosen others-even strangers-needs over my own, because that is the right thing to do...I would never force a book on them...that is crap...that is wrong! sorry to burst your bubble, but I just so happen to be pegan, and last time I checked, we seemed to be much more concerned with other's well being than the christians, we don't care what religion or background you are, if you have a soul than you are an equal...i have never turned away somebody because i didn't agree with them or i thought that they were 'the devil'.........so why not teach peganism in schools...that would teach your children moral values....but you know what...even though I think that people should be enlightened to the pegan beliefs and ways of life, I DO NOT believe that that would even be the 'right' thing to do...because of "speration of church and state"!!! give people the right to choose for themselves!!!
