The story is told in the book of Genesis that God instructed Noah to build an ark, and gather each pair of animals into the ark for the earth was about to flooded by rain. Now we know today that there are millions of animals on earth, so how is it possible for Noah to build an ark so large that it can contain all those animals?

Are you serious? I suppose you could say that Santa uses similar methods to pack all of those presents in his sleigh.

One should take the measurements of the ark, & calculate the number of animals, to see if it was possible ...

If it's true, then why didn't the inevitable inbreeding cause massive genetic problems with each species, including humans?

Although it seems like many Christian types do come from a family tree containing one branch...

I wouldn't go that avenue if I were you. Inbreeding in nature is not neccessarily a bad thing. Examples of beneficial or innocuous inbreeding patterns in different species abound in nature. The same had probably been true of early humans ...

Neither faith nor a lack thereof is an indicator of one's breeding. There are plenty of Muslims, Jews, atheists, etc. who have no class, no intelligence, and are riddled with genetic problems.

You, however- you of the unbranched family tree- seem to have inherited a genetic propensity toward hatefulness. It's either that, or......

let me guess- you were molested by a priest? Made to carry huge buckets of water by Buddhist monks? Did you have to feed gallons of milk to Ganesh? Did you pray for a pony, and never got one?

So little time, so many theories........LOL

Many cultures around the world have flood myths. One should keep in mind that the "world" of these ancient cultures was miniscule compared to that of the modern world, and therefore, the number of different types of animals in each "known world" was finite.

A fable with a tiny basis in an ancient event (or events), perhaps?

Yes you are right. In an average year 750,000 tons of space debris, mostly dust and water droplets from outer space enter the atmosphere and are added to the Earth. At the time of Noah's Arc the Earth was about the size of Hooterville,Kentucky.

Not the Earth. Their "world". The people of ancient times didn't know the Earth as we know it today. To some of the more primitive peoples, a distance of a few hundred miles was a different "world".

Now, you can take your brain out of the Hooterville landfill.

Ah,well when the "world" as you call it was so small, people and animals had to be very small to fit in it.Noah was only 10 centimeters tall.Giraffes were about a foot tall.Of course a hundred miles was a very long walk.So obviously two of all the animals could fit in a boat with that many cubits.

Hi Lifelover!

Why do you believe it? What makes it seem like something like that could really happen? How's it possible to fit every animal in a boat?

The story of the Ark is just that, a fable.
There would be evidence everywhere if there was(could have been) a world wide flood.
A boat of those proportions, held together by joints and sealed with pitch is unseaworthy.
All the animals? Please!
Where did all of the water come from and where did it go?
Lastly, most of our fresh water lakes/sources would be brackish at best.

LL, I don't think Scam was looking for an argument. He just wanted to know why you believe it is true.

So many times when we ask a Christian why they believe something we get the answers that you just gave. One you believe it because it is in the Bible. Two that you don't have to answer that question and Three you don't want to argue when no one has started an argument.

Sometimes maybe people are just wanting an explanation as to why a Christian things something is real or that an event took place.

It is not about Noah's Ark per se. The topic could have just as easily been Jonah in the Whale.

Why don't you make the calculations to prove it wrong ?

Makes as much sense as the whale swallowing Jonah, spitting him out and Jonah walking away looking like he was just taking a stroll on the beach.
