Before you Buy an Apple iPhone, be aware that the bluetooth function is almost worthless. You are not going to be able to transfer files or even connect to your computer using bluetooth. After I bought an iPhone, i received a free phone for 1 dollar. The free phone will connect using bluetooth to all my computers and allow me to move files from the computer to the cheap 1 dollar phone and back to the computer.

The iPhone will not do this. The iPhone cost around 440 dollars after taxes and yet cannot perform bluetooth operations that my 1 dollar phone can perform.

Apple doesn't speak about it, in the store, they don't like to admit it, but they will if you tell them of the problem. They tell you, they do not know why or if apple is going to fix it. So, i assume they are admitting it is broke.

Anyone else have this experience or have information about what is being done to fix the problem. according to the apple store, there is nothing being done or they are just not aware of it.

Again, we are talking about a 400 dollar phone with bluetooth functions that are NOT working. Yet my 1 dollar phone has no problem. Apple? Do you care?

anyone? I have read many other stories of others complaining about the Apple iPhone having broken bluetooth function. The only thing i am aware of that works with bluetooth on an iphone is a headset for handsfree talk. This is a major failure in my opinion.

one is not able to do simple transfers of single songs to their iphone....not using bluetooth. you need to move files from your iphone to your computer....forget about bluetooth...it will not work. broken, is not planned to be fixed, according to the apple store when i spoke to them. even the people at the apple store admitted they were surprised of this problem and didn't understand why apply or job's has not addressed the issue.

anyone else have news on this issue?

This is a bit of an attack on the iPhone, I have one myself but the same limited bluetooth functionality is also found on my blackberry 8700, it can only be used for audio devices.
The reason that they give for this is that it limits the number of attack vectors for possible data theft or compromise.
Don't get me wrong, I do miss having the bluetooth file transfer as well!

Well, not so much as an attack as it is truth. Really, every phone i have had, including the one dollar phone that at&t sent was able to transfer files from computer to phone and back again, without problem. the iphone costs 400 times the amount of my one dollar phone, one would think this wouldn't be an issue. I am forced to do all transfers through apple applications such at itunes at the moment and that is limited.

don't get me wrong, i love apple products and have used them since 1984 and continue to use tham and currently own two intel powerbooks and a desktop. I have a pc and hate it and only use it for work related issues that require the specific secure connection.

I am sure apple has an excuse for why it is as it is, but it is only an excuse in my opinion.

my comments are not intended to attack apple but instead to make others aware of the limits of a 400 dollar phone (which i was not told about before i bought). A 400 dollar phone that after i bought it, i questioned the apple store about it and they told me they didn't know why it didn't work, that it was a known problem and that they hope it will work soon.

as you see, we can get many excuses but that doesn't help the consumer. i value the bluetooth function for the transfer of files and if my 1 dollar phone can do it, the apple phone should be able to do it without issue and far better.

peace

I completely agree with your argument as I bought the phone in the UK for £269 and am really annoyed that such a simple function does not work.
I will be pursuing this with Apple and will keep you posted.

thanks for the comment. it really does drive me crazy. i love the phone for many reason but this simple function with bluetooth shouldn't be an issue.

i honestly believe it is just their way of restricting iphone users to using itunes for sync and in this way they can attempt to get more business for itunes store.

if i can get a phone for one dollar,,,which i did and that phone has the full bluetooth function,.....then my "advanced" iphone should offer that for the price is 400 times that of my one dollar phone.

keep me posted....i hope to go after this more too and wonder if there can be some kind of class action brought to have this resolved?

I agree that the iPhone should support all Bluetooth capabilities. I create my own ringtones by using an audio editing program and then Bluetooth them to my phone but I am no longer able to do so. I have to purchase a song that I already own and then purchase the ringtone that I could make for free.

i like to do the same with garage band or just load some of my songs through the bluetooth method. i heard a rumor that it should be fixed by the update in Feb. I think it shouldn't need fixing, it should have already worked on a 400 dollar phone. It would be nice if we could get some plug-ins that allow us to view all content of webpages, such as some flash and video.
I hope they give us this all soon.

i love being able to get some news pages and my email on the road and just in my pocket...that is awesome. but i did expect the basic and simple bluetooh technology to be part of the expensive package. the lest they could do is tell the consumer it doesn't work. everyone would assume it did.

I have also bought an IPhone have same problem. I was also shocked as I bought the phone at double the price u geeks have bought it for just because its an Apple product and I simply love the phone its a marvel just the hitch is Blue Tooth otherwise its the best phone I have ever used. I mean the feeling is great. U have something very different from the others, look and feel is out of this world. Apple has done a great Job Cheers Mr. Steve Jobs but please for heavens sake get the blooth working. It becomes a big pain without a blooth device as in todays world its become a basic and most important function of any phone now.

yes, this blue tooth option is very basic and supported by all other phones, basically. I have a nice stereo headset that i cannot but for answering calls. the headset will not sink and i cannot transfer files from the apple to the phone or vise versa. a phone that cost this much money should have those basic features.

Apple never addresses this and never states if they will supply the feature soon. it is a standard that is shared by most phones and yet apple, the most expensive of the bunch, cannot provide the simple feature with their premium price. other than that, i like the phone.

looks like many updates are coming but again, they do not mention the blue tooth issue or if they will fix it.

it is a big failure of the phone and apple.

it is strange and it appears they did it on purpose, in my opinion. how can they get all that other stuff to work well and plan for even greater things and not get basic blue tooth to work on a phone that cost 400 dollars or more.

clearly, they did it on purpose and they need to fix it if they are going to compete with others. i think until others start to show the failures of the apple iphone, they are not going to change it.

this is really a big failure in my view. i use blue tooth all the time, and want to use it for my stereo headsets and to transfer files i create on the computer. can't do it....that sucks...big time.

apple is supposed to make it all easy...aren't they?

Apple, Fix the Blue Tooth Issues. They do not work properly and my 1 dollar phone can do what the iphone cannot...send files on bluetooth.

peace

all this talk about blue tooth make me realize I do not know much about the possibilites it provides, I love my iPhone! I love the fact that they are constantly working to improve it and all we have to do is download it to our existing phones as opposed to having to purchase a new phone whenever new features become availiable.

I do like my iphone, but when a phone that cost me a dollar can download using bluetooth and allows me to use my stereo headset connected to my phone, then there is a problem. compare a phone, everyphone i have had that cost anywhere from 1 dollar to 200 dollars allow me to transfer all things to the via bluetooth and allow my headset to connect through blue tooth. i was at the apple store and they even discribed to me that yes, they have a problem and they are working on it and because of the new SDK it will maybe....maybe have some issues resolved.

do a search and you will notice there are many issue with Bluetooth that do not work on this 400 dollar phone work on the cheap phones. go figure

This affirms the old adage: Don't buy the first edition/issue of anything. There will always be kinks, which will be worked out in later editions. Software, hardware, cars, etc.

Are you having to pay for a separate account to use that $1 phone? If that is the case, I can see why you're bumming. Otherwise, why not continue to use the $1 phone as your work phone and the iPhone for everything else? My wife has to use a Sony Treo to access her VPN from work, she loves her iPhone for her personal phone. After watching that video about the upcoming SDK update, I am sure that your bluetooth problems will be addressed if they really are testing the beta software with companies.

Good luck :-)

yeah, I think it will all be fixed soon enough, but not sure. I love the iphone for everthing else. i love being able to access the internet. i don't actually use the 1 dollar phone they sent me but my wife does and we have a couple of others that she uses and they all work with bluetooth flawlessly. it just blows my mind that the apple iphone that is there to compete and take over the mobile phone market, didn't properly plan for the phone to have this very simple function.

i would love to use the iphone as a phone and an ipod and have it transmit to a stereo headset and transfer files to and from my apple. that is all i expected...the simple phone functions i have had before, with the added plus of what the iphone is to do.
