I have no doubt they have colored my worldview. We do live in the best nation in the world thanks to unspeakable sacrificing. And I'm not just talking money though that is part of it. How dare this gov make people not even born yet slaves to this debt. How dare they.
I sus[ect it has a lot to do with those people at the Villages not wanting to sacrifice their SS and Medicare while insisting that their children and grandchildren pay for it.

REALLY? Are you a cold, calculated poster with NO feelings in an "open forum" Virginia? Or do you just wish people well on Holidays, and offer words of condolence to give folks the impression you have a heart?
Why do "feel" the need to respond to virtually every incoming post? Are you determined to impart your vast wisdom in here for everyone to see? Or is it more that you "feel" responsible if you could have helped someone with your knowledge, but didn't wanna take the time?
<quoted text>
Yes, and that indicates that you must have had some idea of a percentage in mind. 10%? 20% See an ESTIMATE is just an educated guess, not a "hard figure with a great degree of study & work".
<quoted text>
You're the cold-hearted calculator with the list of what YOU would do. Had you provided an estimate, I could've had a better idea if your reasoning was feasible or not. But your original answer "some would", left me surprised.
<quoted text>
Disagree. With the 2 wars winding down, and with the measures which are already in place, such as sensors, cameras, drones, and current CBP strength, I believe sealing the border very doable.
Your contention that the illegals will simply find a way around our
security measures, don't speak too well of US capabilities over third-world country border-jumpers (IMO).
Of the 5-point list you offered, only 2 of them had merit (IMO).
That's about a D grade, isn't it?
Did we seal the borders of Iraq? Afghanistan? The border with Mexico?

What I stated was that we could not afford to seal the border. I will go further and say that it is impossible at this time to "seal" preventing any unauthorized entry.

Now of course if you and others are willing to double taxes and get rid of social programs we might be talking a different ball game.

Cold and Calculating: While a good wish may be bring cheer, that does not translate into the absence of said wish making someone feel bad. I would hope that everyone here is adult enough to feel secure in their own lives enough that a stranger can not make them "feel" bad.

That is why with DS, Chris and others I just continue to post as I do and I can let others judge who is being reasonable, using circular logic, etc...

Years ago in the military SOME (not all) officers and their wives felt superior to enlisted Soldiers. My wife worked with aa Captains wife and the Captain was somewhat of a snob. Everytime I saw him in the bank on post or any other location I made a point of talking to him because it made him uncomfortable to talk to an enlisted guy in public. Particularly when I was not in his unit.

You can disagree all you want. There is a 10/90 rule. You can get 90% of what you want for 10% of the money. You spend 90% of the money getting the last 10%. The reason behind that is 90% of what you want is already being done someplace and only needs to be incorporated into what you want. The last 10% requires new technology not yet developed.

I did not say that was his intent. But who got more play: The terrorists on 9-11 or the underwear bomber? Similar intent, why less coverage?

Heck, we can even go back to the Lockerbie bomber on that one if you want to. Identical intent.

Not even close. The Delta jet on Christmas day got decent coverage. This story is nonexistent but for one network. Humm.

We (the bankers) must proceed with caution and guard every move made, for the lower order of people are already showing signs of restless commotion. Prudence will therefore show a policy of apparently yielding to the popular will until our plans are so far consummated that we can declare our designs without fear of any organized resistance.

The Farmers Alliance and Knights of Labor organizations in the United States should be carefully watched by our trusted men, and we must take immediate steps to control these organizations in our interest or disrupt them.

At the coming Omaha Convention to be held July 4th (1892), our men must attend and direct its movement, or else there will be set on foot such antagonism to our designs as may require force to overcome. This at the present time would be premature. We are not yet ready for such a crisis. Capital must protect itself in every possible manner through combination (conspiracy) and legislation.

The courts must be called to our aid, debts must be collected, bonds and mortgages foreclosed as rapidly as possible.

When through the process of the law, the common people have lost their homes, they will be more tractable and easily governed through the influence of the strong arm of the government applied to a central power of imperial wealth under the control of the leading financiers. People without homes will not quarrel with their leaders.

History repeats itself in regular cycles. This truth is well known among our principal men who are engaged in forming an imperialism of the world. While they are doing this, the people must be kept in a state of political antagonism.

The question of tariff reform must be urged through the organization known as the Democratic Party, and the question of protection with the reciprocity must be forced to view through the Republican Party.

By thus dividing voters, we can get them to expand their energies in fighting over questions of no importance to us, except as teachers to the common herd. Thus, by discrete action, we can secure all that has been so generously planned and successfully accomplished."

Gotta go. See you Monday, and thanks so much for your thoughts!!
I know even if they haven't been so far away I tend to fix their favorites when my kids come. I order sometimes from Schwan's because we are so far from a grocery. There was the most touching review about one of the products (chicken pot pies) by a mother whose marine came home. She fixed them in the middle of the night when he couldn't sleep.

Here's what I get, Chris.

What Tony Perkins of "Family" Research Council is doing is EXACTLY the same thing that you've decried when it's done to people you agree with.

When some whack job charged into a (Unitarian?) church and went on a shooting spree, a lot of people made a big deal out of the fact that he had books by Bill O'Reilly. When (in CA?) some whack job started driving down to some liberal religious organization that few people had ever heard of, a lot of people were quick to point out that Glenn Beck was obsessed with and frequently exaggerated the importance of it.

There is no reason to bring up the SPLC in a discussion of the shooting at the FRC, period.

And in response to your earlier question - if a member of '912' did it at a gay organization, there would be people doing exactly what Perkins is doing.

Great questions for 3rd year college students in a friendly philosophy class. I don't think you'll get any thoughtful responses to your post in here.
But having said that, R's don't do much to attract alot of African American voters.
My really, really short answer is republicans offer fishing lessons and the democrats offer a fish dinner with 2 sides included and a goodie bag flled with exciting party favors.
And yet the fact is though not in great numbers more and more blacks are voting Republican, more and more black politicians republican. I think many have had it with the false promises and the feeling that somehow they are supposed to be grateful to the democrats. The biggest thing republicans can offer and have is that anyone can make it without government and that includes all races and genders.
I've always been big on affirmative action, and unlike OKB I believe it is not supported just by dems, but like anything there was a time and place for that. We had to have it. Now not so much. Did you hear that Rahm Emanual is being sued by the police force for letting white and hispanic cops go in favor of black police? That is illegal.

Of course, I've also been known to tweak them a bit with stuff they hated. My middle daughter was NOT amused by the turnip in the centerpiece last Thanksgiving ...

It seems me that Lyndi is quite intuitive. She also knows that if you use certain terms here the word police will pounce on you, saying you are trying to psycho-analyze. No reward for knowing those words if you are a conservative.

Crap. There is every reason to bring up the SPLC because the man said he felt they were a hateful organization. The truth comes out everytime. Just as with the crap that Chick-fil-a stands on hate and the backlash that is still going on because of it. And if something like this happened with a person that was strongly on the right obama would not be able to speak quickly enough on it.

There was no more reason to bring up the SPLC after the shooting at the FRC than there was to bring up Beck or O'Reilly after people targeted/tried to target institutions they focused on in their books or television/radio shows.

If it's appropriate to bring the SPLC into this conversation regarding what Tony Perkins called "reckless rhetoric," then you have to apply the same standards to the guy who got into a shootout with the CA highway patrol while allegedly on the way to attack the ACLU, who claimed to be inspired by Glenn Beck.
