And when mitt starts trying to legislate his book of mormon, I won't even say 'I told you so.' I didn't when it became apparent that obama was the screw-up I thought he'd be, and I won't with the mormons, either. No matter how much I despise them. Not gonna happpen. I'm sure Romney knows the difference between the LDS and the Oval Office.

Roberta G wrote: <quoted text> To facilitate answering, I've inserted numbers into your post, Bos. I know you won't mind :) 1. I have no idea how many illegals were in the U.S.A. during WWII, although I doubt it was anywhere near 12 MILLION. What difference does it make? This is 2012. 2. Kewl :) 3 & 4. Historically--again, this is 2012. Unless Florida had 12 million ILLEGAL immigrants picking crops in the '60s, your point is irrelevant. I have no problem with an immigrant worker program, PROVIDED THE IMMIGRANTS COME HERE THROUGH LEGAL CHANNELS. 5. Now, you're sounding elitist. If an immigrant is here LEGALLY, then he or she has a perfect right to be employed in whatever capacity suits the immigrant and the potential employer. I prefeer the numbers to any other way of keeping things straight. It works very well. 1, 3, 4: Historical reference is important for a number of reasons. One to show that this is nothing new though people are acting like it is. They have been here the whole time, in numbers, and they have even served to help us through some difficult times. 5. Not elitist. There is a tendency to bring in foreign labor legally because it is cheaper. This works to hold down everyones wages. The original idea of bringing in foreign labor legally (there is a term specifically for this) was to do skilled jobs that there were not enough Americans to satisfy the need. Because they were cheaper, it migrated everywhere. Ask Chris and DS, there are a lot of Mexican roofing workers in Florida. They pay them less but the contractor still makes the same amount like he was hiring Americans. I know that to be a fact because I have relatives in the construction industry and other reletives that over the years has built rental units.......well until recentaly in Florida that is. Roofers ought to make $12 - 17/hour with the job supervisor making $20 - 25. Mexicans are $3.50 - 6 cheaper. the contractor pockets the difference encouraging him to hire even more Mexicans. And that is for legal ones.

Roberta G wrote: <quoted text> Hear, hear. Unlike Bill Clinton, Obama seems to be a loyal husband and family man. But they do have some things in common, and one of them is this: Bill Clinton never hesitated to choose what was good for him politically over what was good for the nation. Over the last 4 years, it's become crystal clear that Obama shares that attitude. Yes, yes, saying we need a tax increase, put entitlements on the table, need to bomb Libya, assist the rebels in Syria, and keep sanctions on Iran has done Obama a world of good.

The thought came to me yesterday when I saw Debbie Wass....(?) on TV. How screwed up has Florida gotten that it is blessed with both Debbie and Alan West? Two fruits from opposite ends of the spectrum.

The fact is that very few politicians are "heros". A hero is a soldier who sacrifices his life to save his friends. A hero is a citizen who runs into a melting nuclear plant to save his country. A hero tells the truth to the face of power, and exposes corruption even if it costs him his reputation. A hero does what is right even to the point of death. The closest thing the U.S. has had to a "hero" in the oval office was JFK.

Roberta G wrote: <quoted text>Bob, I truly hope you didn't mean this seriously. Just sarcasm. There were many people that thought that if JFK were elected President, as a Roman Catholic, he would be under the influence of the Pope. Of course, once elected, JFK never tried to impose his religious beliefs on anyone. It's silly to think that any President, no matter what some may think, would try to impose his religion on others, be it Protestant, Mormon, Sikh, Catholic, Muslim, etc. For one thing, it is specifically forbidden by the Constitution, and would be grounds for impeachment.

Well, I caught the sarcasm :) I don't think the nation is in any danger of momon theocracy (the least if my personal concerns regarding Romney) and I don't understand why anyone would be concerned about catholic rule either... They had their chance ;)

Whose computer are ya using, nurse's station? Couple things for your coRN-Cideration: This thread doesn't need any definition, description, depiction, illustration, or narration about "what makes a hero". And in spite of the thread title (mostly for convenience now), the main topics are Obama & current events. Course yer still free to add yer "bash Bush" comments to the pile. Just a bit passe these days.

ANY opposition to Barack H Obama would be an affront, an insult even, to the intelligent, voting public, according to you, correct? Sorry man. Barry's gotta go.
