Your replies to many posts, however, leave me wondering why you attach your thoughts to the posts of other people, because I can't see ANY relationship between the post and the reply. Oh, I just do that sometimes. Most of us know who stands for what and if I see a poster sometimes don't even read the post, just easy to reply to him/her. I'll work on that.

I was poking fun at. Remember what Charlie Hill said:'I bet y'all didn't know us In'dans had a sense of humor, huh? Well, we didn't think you were all that funny either.' Remember him? He used to be on the old Richard Pryor show. and he dated the bionic broad for awhile. I never really thought Hill was very funny. But I do agree with him when he says; "Its not indians versus white-folks, but its indians versus government, black people versus guvment and white people versus guvment".......

okb2 wrote: <quoted text> The only "further" I would go is to say that without education and some of the other services, business would not, could not thrive as it has. Not saying that there would not be business activity, just that it could not exist as it does today. Interstate highways, the railroad system, and the electric grid all pretty much come in and tell local governments what they are going to do and it is the federal government that allows them to do that.
In return, citizens and businesses get more efficient electricity and transportation. Now the electrical grid is in bad need of improvement, but it will not get done until the federal government throws their weight behind it. Look at the Hoover Dam and the Las Vegas area. Look at what public water and sewage has done for business. NO high rise building could exist without them. There IS truth to that, I agree. But Obama said "If you have a business, YOU DIDN'T BUILD IT." Favorable conditions help, certainly, but it's still the people who built the businesses who deserve the credit. I'll illustrate with this: We all know the Olympics are going on. It's all very well for the athletes to have the best coaches, supportive families, proper training equipment, etc. But at the actual events, it's still the athletes THEMSELVES who must perform. Nobody can do that part for them. And at the end of the day, it's the businesmen and -women who build the businesses. Obama doesn't seem to recognize that.

Hill's comedy6 had a Native slant to it, but then, Richard Pryor's humor had a black slant, same with Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, and a slew of others. You're right, in a way. Charlie Hill's career was short-lived. Good comedians are around a long, long time. The one 'comedian' that just Galls me? george lopez. He slams America almost as much as obama does, and he gets paid More than barry. I get tired of him extolling how 'great' his people are, when most of them can't read or write, and just drain this society. One thing I always wondered. Why wasn't vicente fox ever prosecuted for his involvement in mexico? He IS an american, and U.S. Law says that NO citizen can hold political office in any other coumtry. But, then, we weren't supposed to hire an idiot from kenya to run our country either. Oh, well.

Oh BTW, turns out Topix WAS giving away valuable awards for milestone post counts. At 40K they send you a check for $10K, but it has to be certified by their accounting dept. My bad.

Lyndi wrote: <quoted text> My feeling is Hillary C. would have been the better choice for democrats but it seems the entire party was swept off it's feet by the newness of Obama. I haven't heard too many comment on that, probably because the horse is already out of the barn but nevertheless it bears mentioning........ It occurs to me that by choosing the abslolute furtherst left and virtual unknown in the senate, they took a huge and unnecessary risk. We'll know in November how that works out but I don't think Hillary would be scrambling right now like the incumbant, had she been the nominee. Lyndi, I agree with your conclusions. I believe the Democrats missed a golden opportunity to make Obama walk the plank, in the primary. But the problem for them is that they have been entrapped by their own identity-politics. Obama was elected based on his identity, and his ability to sell the vagaries of liberalism. While most people are in pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, many Obama-voters are content to have guvment pursue these elusive goals for them. So the very identity, which got Obama elected now keeps them from booting him, as he obviously deserves, which would cause an irreparable fissure to their volatile confederation of victims. Theirs is a party held together around disparate grievances and disgruntlements. The problem for the Democrats has always been to find a candidate with a personality that can appeal to all these groups. The Republicans on the other hand are held together by distinct, rigid principles. The only question for the Republicans has always been whether or not the candidates they choose can fit properly into the principled-coat of conservatism..

No, six months ago I found out I was going to be a Grannie, now I really am one.(Can't vouch for the cabbage patch doll. Those were ugly little suckers and my daughter, the one that just had a baby, was scared of them.)

I would not have supported Roosevelt and I don't think JFK was the greatest President of all time but he did have nice hair. There you go. If you can assign a label to that mish-mash, lol- let me know. How does 'registered American voter' grab you? Just for the record, you and I are apparently quite close in mind politically as well - although I'm still a registered Republican.

WildWeirdWillie wrote: <quoted text>Because those services alone don't guarantee success. Nothing Obama said can legitimately be interpreted as suggesting those services guarantee success. Obama didn't even elevate those services to the level OKB appeared to in the post I took exception to. Those services make success easier, but NOTHING guarantees success, not even the most brilliant business plan, deepest pocket financing, and expenditure of enough sweat equity to lose thirty pounds a day for years. Those services and others like them are contributing factors to the United States economy being what it is. Government has a role in that. That's all Obama was saying. It wasn't profound, it wasn't brilliant, it was beyond banal - but boneheaded? Nah. Makes for a good bumper sticker, though. Nope... Guvment primarily has a role in siphoning the profits. Sadly, this guvment's not very helpful in creating the atmosphere for profits, or for generating them. Obama's objective was designed to undermind the "hardwork" and "smartness" of successful business owners. If he's able to create an atmosphere where individual achievements cannot be attributed to individuals, but to a faceless "someone else", then the guvment confiscating and spreading wealth will be more acceptable.

Unfortunately I will not be voting for Obama again. Four years was plenty of time for him to perform his miracles. Instead, things seemed to have gotten worse. Poor decisions? Lousy advisors? And it seems to be getting worse each day. It's time to cash out and try another machine... No jackpot possibility with this one.

It's more of a situation of who's in power and what they deem as a disadvantage. I believe the only leveler is matching our own drive to our own circumstances. If I'm not friendly enough or talkative enough to be a salesman I don't expect them to change what a saleman does, I expect to change myself. Your comment about the level playing field is basically what I meant, when I said " In a culture which calls ever-growing acquisition "success, " making sure no one has an unfair advantage materially, means making sure no one succeeds." Our culture encourages unfair advantage, rather than hindering it, and despises a 'level playing field'. "Level" equates to socialism or worse in the minds of most capitalists.
