<quoted text>No, bob, I do not think we are just about out of time. I don't think we need saving from anything - not even the nattering nabobs of negativism who convince people that the fate of the nation depends upon the election of the product they're selling.
Said it before, I'll say it again - there's nattering nabobs of negativism on both sides.
I didn't think we were out of time or that we needed saving from anything eight years ago when I read many a lament just like yours (with the issues and candidate name changed, of course) written or spoken by folks from 'my side'. Back then the fearmongering was aimed at Bush.
Since you have a pretty good idea what I thought of President Bush, I hope you can understand why I couldn't possibly agree with your post now.
That doesn't mean we don't have problems. We do - and while they're serious, they're not much compared to any number of things this nation has faced and overcome in the past.
We spend too much time worrying about those labels - liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican. We're going to have to grow up a little bit and learn to share the sandbox, relearn that cooperation stuff taught in kindergarten.
[May be dup-topix lost 1st attempt]

The msg I posted was a followup to what DS was saying, and the labels you refer to are only the ID tags I used to more clearly illustrate my points. And though the factual accuracy may not have been dead center, I was more interested in you getting the general idea.

Growing up and sharing a sandbox has little to do with things today (IMO), Will. I believe we're in MUCH more "direr of straits" than your reply indicates. For one thing, we've (both sides) amassed a debt which cannot realistically be repaid, and China of all countries, has managed to become our chief lien-holder. That's ridiculous (IMO).

Maybe you don't see the sky falling, and maybe you don't see the great harm that the "liberal" ideological mindset is/has been causing, as David has been (correctly-IMO) saying for quite some time now.(BTW, I don't mind being called Chicken Little, because it turned out to be unfounded fear).

But I've always thought that this country does much better using Conservative policies and values, than it does with Liberal ones. But that does NOT necessarily mean I believe Conservatives are "better" than Liberals, especially when it comes down to intent.

Obamacare and the other Liberal policies are noble, without question. But with an economy, jobs, housing etc., in the tank, we cannot remain on the same course as if nothing was wrong. There is NO money to continue entitlements and other expensive policies that Obama wants to maintain.

Taxing the rich more will accomplish nothing, and without jobs, the rest of us don't have the extra funds to sustain Obama's pipe dreams, do we? I know I don't.

Yes, HC needs to be addressed and I think the right has (or will have) a viable alternative, minus a purchase mandate, but IINM, they'll wait until it gets closer to the election to roll it out in public.

I hope I'm wrong and you're right about things, doc. Otherwise, we're headed down the tubes with NO possible return.

Actually its a quote from a speech given by Spirit Agnew, written by William Safire. That's where Laugh In got it.

Thats actually what scares me the most. I see all kinds of people who dont seem to care to much about whats going on. They have that attitude that because we are the United States of America we will come through, once again, we always do.
You've admitted we are in serious trouble Willie. Doesnt it concern you that our leaders seem to ignore that, and its just business as usual. Spend spend spend.
I'm an Indie, but Paul ran on a republican ticket so I went to the caucus and registered as Republican.(didnt think it through and have regretted it since). Anyway they wanted to pass a bonding bill for 15 million in our district and wanted to pass a concensus (?) vote on it. The main topic of conversation at the caucus was debt and spending control, but it was the other guys that needed to do it. My thought is it starts here. Everyone needs to sacrifice not just one side or the other. I left very disappointed and concerned.
<quoted text>
I agree with this. To much division.
I see a lot of people that acknowledge a problem, but if it is not solved their way they don't care if it is solved or not.

More and more on the left are turning away from a balanced solution and going for a tax only solution. When the Republicans could have had a 4:1 solution, it might be 1:1 or a 2:1 solution now.

And that is if we can get it resolved.

There are other ways to stimulate the economy.
I'm no expert on economics, but there are people out there to get opinions from. He threw money at it crossed his fingers and moved on to health care and his ego, errrr I mean legacy..........
One thing I'll tell you that still stands out to me is all the doom and gloom he preached. It went from a campaign of hope and change to to a presidency of doom and gloom and one excuse after the other. Excuses for failure. He didnt inherit that from Bush. I'm guessing it was one or both of his parents traits or could be he learned it in the Senate..........An ugly trait where ever he got it from.
There are three ways to stimulate the economy with money:

1. You can lower taxes.

2. You can give poor people money.

3. You can improve or build infrastructure.

The stimulus did all three PLUS assisted localaties keeping teacher, policemen and firemen employed.

Another thing is loosen the regulations. However, given the governments role in this economic disaster was one of lax regualation and little oversight the wisdom of this is questionable at best.

VP Agnew used it, but two writers are credited with throwing it in his speech.

BB, we have paid off worse debt in the past. The real problem facing us with this debt at this time is that the reasons we were able to "grow" our way out of the debt are missing for the most part now.

Instead of conservative or liberal, how about the best solution to the problem regardless of whether it is conservative or liberal?

And you are right, we can not tax our way out of the problem. Nor can we cut our way out of the problem either, not without destroying totally our way of life.

I think your missing at least one other one and an important one at that, and that is consumer confidence, not to mention corporate confidence. IMO, Obama failed miserably with both.

I just watched the movie 'W' recently albeit halfheartedly. I've been pretty busy and so i had to watch it in segments when I could find time and some times I was fairly innattentive for various reasons.

I always had heard that movie put GW in a good light, but i didnt find that watching it. It certainly did look as though Cheney was pulling the strings by that movie. I didnt find George to be all that likable in the movie. Certainly no one I'd wanna go have a beer with..........But thats jus me..........

I just went to a blue cross blue shield site and quoted Health Insurance. Its been awhile since I've been to their site. The policy's have changed quite a bit since the last time I was there.

IIRC the best policy I could have gotten back then (which is much better then the best policy offered now) was about $1200. Now its about $2400.

The most surprising thing was how the policies changed though. I expected the jump in price.

Just got a letter today from my wifes co, we are both on her benefits plan as my old one was cut to almost nothing. Didn't open it as I want to be in a good mood tonight for work. Oh boy...

LOL..........I know what you mean. I hate getting letters like that on Friday, and alot of times wait till Monday to open them so not to ruin my weekend..........

Hey CC. I'm just going by what you write here, but try to focus on the positives (your wife, family, friends etc.). Seems to me you let the troubles of this world get you uptight. Hope I'm reading you wrong. God doesnt say anything about not trying to enjoy your stay while here.......

Have a good one..........

The movie wasn't the least bit positive about Bush, any of the Bushes but much of it was not true. The idea that Cheney spoke for Bush is ludicrous. He was an advisor, all presidents have them, and they should. That's part of Obama's problem is his advisors are so far left.
A lie can be told, the liar can even apologize for the lie, but for some reason the lie lives on, because people so badly want to believe it.
I'd gladly sit down and have a beer with Bush and I believe history will straighten out all the lies.

Yea I'm just going by what I saw in that movie. There were some things that make me take it with a grain of salt. A couple of which were they had to get 'the decider' in there and also the phrase 'GW was someone you'd wanna go have a beer with'.

Not wanting to have a beer with him was said somewhat tongue in cheek. I'd never pass on an opportunity to have a beer with a President or former President. Even Obama. I'd especially like to have a beer with Clinton. Maybe he could teach me how to pick up chicks..........

If you can't see someone in person you'll enjoy ringing them up for a chat to find out how they are, especially if you've been rather worried about them lately.
