Tried to check out the author. The name of a website, not an author, was given. Followed that link, just out of curiosity. The blog (note "Powered by WordPress" on the footer) is loaded with articles like "25 Signs That America Is A Seething Cesspool Of Filth And Corruption", 45 Signs That America Will Soon Be A Nation With A Very Tiny Elite And The Rest Of Us Will Be Poor (OWS?), "What Is Causing The Strange Noises In The Sky That Are Being Heard All Over The World?", "Why Are Police In America Treating Women Like Dogs?", and "25 Signs That America Is Rapidly Becoming More Like Nazi Germany".
The purpose of the articles on The American Dream [sic] website is to generate fear - enough fear to prompt individuals to buy the survivalist gear/supplies, books, sign up for email from like-minded [sic] sites (for all of which they are compensated), etc.
Now ... if you will excuse me I'm going to go actually read some of the articles to figure out how hard it would be to start something like it. Some of my affiliate sites have gone stale, and I need to replace them. The formula looks pretty simple.
Might be a way to make a buck in there, too!
Lets you and me start a company Will. You put up all the money, do all the work, and I'll just take half of the profits,
What do you say?
Ya gotta hurry, though. I got thirty other folks waiting in line to get in on this offer! Get in Before the opportunity passes you by!

That is certainly your right to do so.
I'm still puzzled why you think you can pose a question assuming the individuals who committed actions so outrageously unreasonable would have responded reasonably under different circumstances.

I think I'll pass ... I just got an email today from a widow of a government official who wants me to help her with a money problem, but I'll have to use all my capital to assist in getting her money to the U.S.

Yes it's a source with an agenda, but how much of the information in that article is factual? Just curious.

There are 25 points in the so-called article.

I'm sure it's littered with factoids using one or both definitions

- an insignificant or trivial fact

- something fictitious or unsubstantiated that is presented as fact, devised especially to gain publicity and accepted because of constant repetition

The piece Fearless linked to is no more an article than (or, at least, the same type article as) a piece by a car blogger called "25 Reasons GM and Ford S**k" on a site loaded with advertisements from Chrysler dealers.

I don't consider it an article - I think it's marketing copy.

<quoted text>#1 The percentage of Americans that own homes is dropping rapidly. According to Gallup, the current level of homeownership in the United States is the lowest that Gallup has ever measured.
#2 Home prices in the U.S. continue to fall like a rock as well. They have declined for six months in a row and are now down a total of 35 percent from the peak of the housing bubble. The last time that home prices in the United States were this low was back in 2002.
#3 Last year, an astounding 53 percent of all U.S. college graduates under the age of 25 were either unemployed or underemployed.
#4 Back in 2007, about 10 percent of all unemployed Americans had been out of work for 52 weeks or longer. Today, that number is above 30 percent.
#5 When Barack Obama first became president, the number of “long-term unemployed workers” in the United States was 2.6 million. Today, it is 5.3 million.
#6 The average duration of unemployment in the United States is about three times as long as it was back in the year 2000.
#7 Despite what the mainstream media would have us to believe, the truth is that the percentage of working age Americans that are employed is not increasing. Back in March 2010, 58.5 percent of all working age Americans were employed. In March 2011, 58.5 percent of all working age Americans were employed. In March 2012, 58.5 percent of all working age Americans were employed.
#8 Back in 1950, more than 80 percent of all men in the United States had jobs. Today, less than 65 percent of all men in the United States have jobs.
#9 In 1962, 28 percent of all jobs in America were manufacturing jobs. In 2011, only 9 percent of all jobs in America were manufacturing jobs.
#10 In some areas of Detroit, Michigan you can buy a three bedroom home for just $500.
#11 According to one recent survey, approximately one-third of all Americans are not paying their bills on time at this point.
#12 Since Barack Obama entered the White House, the price of gasoline has risen by more than 100 percent.
#13 total student loan debt in the United States has passed the one trillion dollar mark.
#14 Incredibly, one out of every four jobs in the United States pays $10 an hour or less at this point.
#15 Household incomes all over the United States continue to fall. After adjusting for inflation, median household income in America has declined by 7.8 percent since December 2007.
#17 In November 2008, 30.8 million Americans were on food stamps. Today, more than 46 millionAmericans are on food stamps.
#18 Right now, more than 25 percent of all American children are on food stamps.
#19 49 percent of all Americans receive some form of benefits from the federal government.
#20 Over the next 75 years, Medicare is facing unfunded liabilities of more than 38 trillion dollars.
#21 During the first quarter of 2012, U.S. public debt rose by 359.1 billion dollars. U.S. GDP only rose by 142.4 billion dollars.
#22 At this point, the U.S. national debt is rising by more than 2 million dollars every single minute.
#23 The U.S. national debt has risen by more than 5 trillion dollars since the day that Barack Obama first took office. In a little more than 3 years Obama has added more to the national debt than the first 41 presidents combined.
#24 The Federal Reserve bought up approximately 61 percent of all government debt issued by the U.S. Treasury Department during 2011.
#25 The Federal Reserve continues to systematically destroy the value of the U.S. dollar. Since 1970, the U.S. dollar has lost more than 83 percent of its value.
Could you let me know how you think Mitt Romney's Presidency would change any of this for the better?
I could but if you don't klnow you wouldn't understand or agree anyway. I stayed away from your Abortion diatribe and am not going to get into a circular plethora of posts back and forth with you.

Like I said I expected a negative reply from you. I am surprised your reply is devoid of anything substantial, just a group of words meaning nothing. Yep, you are one of the Osterich's with their heads buried in the Obama sand box. Be sure to watch out for the kitties though.

I understand your position because you are so deep into the Obama Socialism and you are afraid to see and admit the truth.

<quoted text>You certainly don't need stats to convince me - I've believed this my whole adult life. Parental interest is not only important, but crucial, to a kid's motivation to do well at anything, especially school work. The first, and most meaningful, lessons a kid learns ALWAYS come from the parents, and I'm not speaking of academic lessons, either.
Robert Fulghum's kindergarten wall notwithstanding - if there's low - or no - expectations of excellence, it's a rare thing to find in any classroom. "Everything I need to know" starts with the definition of what's important.

The use of the word "always" means your thesis is usually false as it is in your example.

Many lessons are learned by a students interaction with peers and, of course, teachers. There arre evident benefits to receiving a good education and the competitiveness among peers. I will not get into Spiritual value as you are a Heathen but I continue to pray for you.

Before you tell me you don't need my prayers, which I am sure you will or thoughnof telling me, I will take all the praters I can get.

Then the proper thing to do would be to challenge my definition on some grounds. Tell you what, the idea here is to show that home schooling provides a better outcome. So lets say that out of 12 years of primary education, 9 were accomplished at home without the use of paid tutors.
I can point to my two sons who never saw a "home schooling" classroom. As I mentioned earlier one is a Scientist with a degree in Microbiology and a PH.D in Immunology and Genetics. The second one is a CPA with the, iirc, the sixth largest CPA firm in the Country. The second child was motivated by his stint in The Marines and after four years came out a Corporal.

I believe you statistics of 75% were more accomplished than the 25% that were publically educated are a bit generous.

The lessons I was referring to as 'first and most important' are learned way before a child has 'peers' at school, fearless. A parent is always a teacher - what that parent teaches may be intentional or unintentional, but either way, the child learns it. But by your logic, since I have to explain this, you won't understand it anyway.

Having spent 20 years in the military with people shifting positions of authority; rule changes and living conditions you see people change behavior all the time.

One of the biggest changes I saw was a change in personal hygiene by male Soldiers in a field environment when they started incorporating women into units.

As to the teachers behavior:

Either they were not properly trained and supported or they are willfull criminals.

Now, given the number of incidents in the one state I would say someone is not getting the word out about what is acceptable and/or they are not getting the proper support to allow them an out.

My wife and family have worked with Principals that felt if a teacher had to send a student to the office for discipline it was a failure on the teachers part. Other Principals think that a teacher can not solve all problems kind of like Mom's threat of telling your Dad. I can easilly invision frustration building with a disruptive student in the first case because the teacher loses either way they go.

Factual and "used properly" are two separate things.

Houses are worth less than they did in 2003. That is a fact. However, the real question should be why? Not simply a link to Obama.

The number of fully employed is low. That is a fact. But when Obama took office it was going down and now it has stabilized. Is it better going down or is it better being stable?

What do the Republicans offer that would create more jobs? Deregulation. Isn't deregulation part of what got us in this mess? Do we really need less regulation?

There is nothing more socialist in America than Social Security and Medicare. They can not even be defending as only helping those that are truly needy.

I agree Shove which is why I encourage early intervention in welfare cases to break the generational welfare train.
