Satan is the darkness WITHIN that appears when a choice is made to turn AWAY from the light. Satan as some mysterious OUTSIDE entity, simply does not exist. We choose our behavior. Our food comes from the earth, which we effect just by being, consuming. And we are to give back however we can in order to keep from have so many negative effects on what sustains our lives in the first place. It's quite possible that's where the compassion originates, because from a natural POV, we are parasites consuming and using the earth up though we do, or should, realize our responsibilities toward nature and to preserve it as much as possible.

That's fine, as I personally think you are also lacking on facts. To imply that 'God' gives food is something that from my own personal POV, I can't argue with. But to me nature is 'God,' the sustainer of life, no matter what kind of life we speak of. Seems humans like to think the term life only applies to them most times, and that's not the case at all, just another selfish human thought. Every natural thing has a life-cycle, from planets to radioactive particles, and animals to stars and the universe itself.

Stop using the term "fact" so loosely. Facts are something that can be proven empirically, physically or tangibly. A POV derived from any relgion is a matter of faith or belief, not fact. The whole premise of your statements is false if you refer to them as facts.

He said that there are "real" vampires and there are "posers". Isn't that funny? He wore a long black leather coat, black leather boots, and he had long black hair and VERY white skin. His canines were pointy, but I'm not sure if they were filed or if it was just a prosthesis. He was pretty interesting (and handsome!)! I love meeting people that aren't afraid to be different. They make life more interesting, don't they?

There's a game called Vampire The Masquerade.
It's a real life role playing game.
A very active group had gotten teeth prosthetics
and lived the game as if were real.
There leader a young man somewhere between 18-21 has gotten so deep into this that he couldn't tell the difference between reality and fiction.
He and a group of 5-7 people went to his girlfriends house.
He and this group including his girlfriend killed the girls parents and drank their blood.
There was a rifle and a steel pipe involved.
It was really the leader that flipped out but the group went along with what he commanded because he had brainwashed them.
One of the members called the police when they where at the hotel and they all got arrested.
The leader still to this day believes he's a real vampire.
Thats the power of belief.
There's many groups all over the U.S playing this game and even here in MN.
They actually influence the Casino here.
This is one thing that makes me glad about Christians because there trying to get this game banned all over the U.S

God and Satan are merely metaphorical characters created to give some tangibility to the two 'faces' of man.
The Bible, a collection of historical verbal and later written narratives that not only preserved the history and lineage of a people but did so in a way that was for them easy to relate too and taught basic human moral requirements. At the time this work was being compiled life was excruciatingly hard for the majority of mankind. It's commendable that our ancestors understood the importance of leading a 'good life' when aggression and starvation were their constant companions. The determination required to survive those times is incomprehensible to us and likewise the importance of a written 'moral compass' has lost it's appeal today. Who can say if that's a good thing or not?
As liberalism spreads social mores erode and a 'reminder' of right and wrong becomes an irritating distraction to our desire to do "whatever turns you on". More than anything this explains the rabid condemnation of the Bible and bitter hatred of Christians by liberal non believers.

Well, I've often put your idea forth, to fundamentalists.

They harp on the "one god" idea, yet have no problem with god being three gods.

And have no problem with giving their anti-god AS MUCH power as their god has.

So, it's natural to assume that god and the anti-god are one and the same.

Why not? It certainly explains a great deal of bible literalism.

What many fundamentalists fail to realize, though, is that by giving anti-god (satan/devil) power, they are tacitly allowing that the anti-god may win in the end.

For, as I like to point out to them, their bible was written by followers of god. What if those got it wrong about who is supposed to win in the end?

You really DON'T KNOW much about the History of your Bible, do you?

The "satan" in Job and the "satan" in the Christian Scriptures (NT) are not the same.

All one has to do is study the original language, and the meanings of the words in question.

The "satan" in Job was mis-translated by the King James bunch. Hardly surprising, really, as the concept of an anti-god was pretty thick in the Middle Ages, and the King James translators were certainly a product of that thinking.

Anyway, a better translation for the character in Job is "solicitor", "counselor", "tester", "finder-out-of-the-truth " (we really don't have an English word that fits). The character was NOT evil in the least-- he was just there to determine the truth, to facilitate the uncovering of the truth.

Job is really a morality play. It's chief message can be boiled down into a single phrase:

"It rains on the Just and the Unjust".

Or, as I prefer: "Sh!t Happens. Deal with it".

The trans-morphing of the character into an evil entity happened during the Middle Ages, when people believed that God had an equally powerful rival, an Anti-god.

The problem with such a powerful anti-god, is the question of who will win in the end?

The Middle Age believers solved that one with the answer: "It will never end, the struggle betwixt good and evil will be eternal, never resolving."

But, science has shown common people that the Universe had a Beginning, and will End some day.

Thus the believers had to Change their Beliefs in light of reality.
