Bait and Switch, If you vote in Hartshorn this term, his intention is to replace himself two years into the term with his son Mike as the incumbent Sheriff for the next election in 2014. Notice the elections sings only say the last name. Time for new blood and get away from the family affair.

"The winner in next Tuesday's election will command a $10 million annual budget and oversee about 100 employees, including 38 deputies in the patrol and investigation units. The sheriff's office also runs the Vermilion County Jail and is responsible for the Vermilion County Courthouse, ensuring security and enforcing all court orders, including warrants, summons, evictions and foreclosures.

Hartshorn said his experience directing the department's budget, not only includes his time in office, but stretches back to a few years before he was first elected when he was chief deputy and had some responsibility in creating the department's annual spending plan. He said he has returned unspent money from his budget to county coffers almost every year he's been in office."

Yes he has saved money, by only giving the Deputies 10 practice bullets every six months. They buy their own radar units, they never go to training, they are paid way less than the city and state police. Both of the Captains have never been to command school and both have only high school educations. Would you want a family member going out on the street under trained? Hartshorn has shown that he knows the cost of something but the value of nothing.

Most lawsuits in police work are filed under lack of training or lack of supervision. I worked for the Sheriff before going to another Department, if he can't control it he don't want any part of it. Ask most of the Deputies that have over ten years, ask any Danville Officer or ask your small town Officer who they are voting for. He looks good at a distance, ask those inside.

Brad P makes an excellent point. By letting certain work get done within the department the Sheriff saves money for the annual budget that gets returned to the county for use elsewhere. I understand youre bitter because you lost some work, but if you're job depends on one business account maybe you're in the wrong line of work. Also if you hate being a cop so much you should quit, thats not the type of job you should continue to do if you're heart is not in it, you'll just end up getting someone else or yourself hurt! And where did you say you were a cop at? I looked at the rosters for both the Sheriffs department snd city of Danville and did not see Brad P anywhere, so Im guessing you work part-time, maybe once a month at your convenience. Do us all a favor and quit your part-time cop job and your whining!

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Rick, this is county money being spent on cars. It has to be open to bids like allsourse, Fagens, Buds, Earl Watkins. You can't just pay people overtime without written bids to compare it with, especially when its your son getting the overtime. Lets be frugal but let's by the book.

Also, when a Deputy rolls his car over in a chase and the radio tree comes loose and injures him, do you know who the deputy or his family sues. The County, the Sheriff and the guy who installed that radio tree and whoever helped him. Contracted companies has insurance for this. Do you have this insurance when your doing the installs in your driveway? Also will the Sheriff be more liable when the installer is a deputy and not a professional installer? YEP!
