Wash. moves step closer to legalizing gay marriage

Full story: CBS News

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The last time same-sex marriage was debated in the state Capitol, the Legislature's sole gay lawmaker watched as his colleagues passed the state's version of the Defense of Marriage Act in 1998 banning gay marriage.

I want to marry my cat.

Come'on gregoire lets be fair to everyone.

I never vote but with all the garbage with this issue and making pot legal I am now motivated to before this state becomes the official toilet bowl of the united states.

Ancient Rome anyone?

Looked what their terrific morals did to that country.

You do realize that the Roman Empire didn't fall until AFTER Christianity became the official state religion don't you?

Yes because they tried to prevent it from happening, for Christiananity was a threat to Rome's econimic tyranny and belief that they could controll everyone as Gods themselves. Just as the great Ferrows of Egypt.

Rome fell due to it's immorality.

A society can only handle so much perversion before it falls apart.

But,like I said, I still want to marry my cat. I mean, we both love each other and who should have the right to stand in our way? Meow..

I WANT MY RIGHTS GREGOIRE!

This is what happens when you mistake your World History class for nap time. Rome fell because it was built on an economic system dependent on continuous expansion, when that expansion was no longer possible, it was doomed to fail and was simply allowed to do so as the center of power was moved from Rome to Constantinople. If you really want to believe that Christians who dominated Rome at that time were immoral, that's up to you, but history really doesn't support such an interpretation.

By what you are passing off as "logic", this would mean that we really should be keeping "Christians" in check, because you are really nothing more than a bunch of immoral perverts.

Um dear, under civil law, marriage is a contract requiring the consent of both parties and since we only have your word that Puss n' Boots even wants to be in the same house as you, there is no consent and so you do not have the "right" to marriage. Sorry, you're just going to have to be satisfied with just shacking up and your cat is just going to have to get used to living with an idiot.

Please provide verifiable statistics that prove your theory that the vast majority of marriage minded gay men and women thoughout the country support sex with children.

Just saying "I heard once that someone might have" isn't a good reason the stop millions of innocent gay folks from legally marrying. If you applied that same reasoning to heterosexual couples, not a one of them would be allowed to marry, either.

Suuuuure they do, cupcake, I believe you. EVERYONE knows that all gay men want to do is have sex with Timmy and Lassie. You do know that the pharmaceutical industry has made great strides in psychoactive treatments don't you?

Do your own research. All homosexuals are sexual perverts and view just about everything as sexual objects. Homosexuals are ALWAYS near children. Our neo-Marxist schools are infected with homosexual teachers. No secret around here.

Very funny. If I left SF, I'd have to take the flag, as I'm the last American here.

Perhaps you read a post better. I was never talking about the fall of rome in an economic sense but a moral sense. As far as my cat goes you'd probably know better than anyone what living with an idiot is like considering your entire family is familiar with the term. This bill will not change anything. It's not going to change anyones feeling about anything and gay people will still deal with the same prejeduce that they had to deal with even before it. The fact that churches are not required to marry them is a win in itself since gregoire doesn't have the guts to force churches to recognize gay marriage. People will eventually forget about it and it won't be a big deal just like everything else on the news because people are fickle.

As I stated before, this state needs no help from conservatives trying to ruin this state because this state will do it all by itself. This state is already turning into a 60's hippie, drug induced orgy anyways and in time will cimpletely crumble.

Enjoy.

Obviously better than you write one.
Joe wrote:

You do realize that when Rome fell it's official religion had been Christianity for almost five centuries. So if you're saying that it collapsed in a "moral sense" it was Christian morality which was to blame. Your vapid fantasies of rampant homosexuality actually took place when the Empire was at its strongest, those days were long over by the time the "barbarian hordes" swept in to kill off the empire.
Joe wrote:

I haven't polled them on the question, but I do think it would be pretty much unanimous that your cat is stuck living with an idiot.

Other than treating same sex couples as legal equals in the state, you are probbly right.

Yes, you do retain your right to be an ignorant bigot and other than hoping that future generations aren't going to be as whatever you are is really the best anyone can hope for.
Joe wrote:

I guess you didn't realize that "churches" already had the right to refuse to perform ANY marriage which did not meet its qualifications for it even BEFORE same sex marriage was passed, it was written into the bill only as a sop to ignorant bigots.
Joe wrote:

Thankfully ignorant hate and bigotry of the likes of you will eventually become too embarrassing for anyone else to associate with. You've lost, get used to it now.

False prophets of doom and gloom and moral decay are nothing new and the world's still here. Enjoy, but you won't.

Kinda funny.

Just because we don't agree with being gay we are considered ignorant and full of hate.

I'd say that because you don't believe in being straight you are the same.

Saying that you "don't agree" with someone "being Gay" is an awful lot like saying that you "don't agree" with someone "being Black", "being female", or "being left handed", it's a trip to silly town for those trying to rationalize an irrational bigotry by somehow making it weirdly "acceptable". I don't know of a single Gay person who has ever said that they "don't agree" with people "being Straight", because it is a perfectly normal state of reality for those of you who are heterosexual, it's just we're not heterosexual. If you're without same sex attractions, that's fine, we'll accept you just the way you are, but to turn your heterosexuality into an excuse to have issues with those of us who are homosexual is a different story altogether, don't expect us to call it anything different than what it is, your "problem" isn't ours.
