"Smokin Joe Obama" you need to look at BC history, BC doesn't have treaties with the natives. So we don't own the land the natives do they've been negotiating for the last 10 years but few treaties have been signed.

Interested wrote: Don't understand why this is such a problem. All we need to do is build a refinery close to the Canadian border, buy their oil and supply all the states in the north. Problem solved. Refineries take 3-5 years to make. They should have built more long ago and the same for ones in the Northern US. Who knows, with all the opposition to these pipeline projects that may be a long term plan. The massive oil reserves in the Alberta oil sands is not going anywhere which is still a win for Canada and the oil companies/investment and production capacities already there will still stand. Under those massive oil sands is an estimated 2 trillion more barrels of oil. Many people opposing this like a govt handout or believe in govt spending/funding so much and yet oppose something and somewhere that brings alot of money into this country. This is about jobs, revenue and strengthening Canada. I also would like to say that many of the left, many enviro groups, etc in this country...hate American interference/influence in this country and yet embrace things like the Sierra Club, which is American, and promote their opinions etc. Their freakin' hypocrites, typical lefty Canadians. Republicans have every right to voice to Obama. The close relationship between Canada and the US is every reason alone to boost our oil/energy productions. I, and many other Canadians, would prefer more our oil could be sent to the US and not China. Obama not only should approve of the pipeline but be promoting more American investment here instead of China, China already has large investment in the Alberta oil sands....Is this what we wanted to see in North America? Well, it seems the govt south of us thinks that's the better plan.

Which country or countries would take over the enormous amount of trade we do with the US? A billion dollars+ is traded everyday over the Canada-US border, who would take over that large amount of trade? Your logic is flawed, it would leave thousands of Canadians unemployed.

very easy Sentinal once we get rid of trading with the US we will be able to trade with the 101 other countries left and get the right price for our material not just enough to cover the cost .... then have to sell our companies to the US because we are in the hole ..... it does not make sense ....

Most Canadian companies are owned by American corporations. The smaller percentage is owned by other corporates in other countries. Canadians own very little business in Canada except a few failing mom and pop's.

Very easy? It would be very easy to stop all trade with the US and have countries simply fill the void quickly? Why are you so against the US anyways?...ah nevermind, it's typical of Canadian leftards like you.

So not to stay on topic or anything... The Enbridge pipeline (the Gateway Project) was always going to be built. I wouldn't be surprised if half the groundwork is already laid. And Keystone will be built... eventually... after it's been squeezed for every ounce of political juice by both sides.

Once Americans redirect our White House away from Class Warfare inspired Leninist antics the great American Workers can complete Keystone and avail our Country of all of the benefits and enhanced energy security that is will provide. All is not lost unless we vote to lose it by choosing to Fail by surrendering to Obama and Chaos in the upcoming election.
