I don't think people should take Pat Rafters recent comments on Mark Philippoussis too seriously, he rubbed in the fact that Mark refused too play Davis Cup for Australia several years ago, from the info I've read, the reason's for Mark's Boycot of the Davis Cup was due too John Newcombe placing Pat Rafter on a pedestall, while Mark was left feeling like he was just Rafters Sidekick, and also he has had several serious knee problems throughout his playing career, and I think on a few occasions he may have not played so he could preserve and rest his troublesome knees. Also, Marks name is on the Davis Cup trophy twice, and in both those Davis Cup Finals that we won with Mark, he sealed the victories for Australia, his efforts in Nice (France) in 1999 were absolutely stunning, he took out 2 of the worlds best clay courters in emphatic fashion (on clay) in front of a raucous French crowd. Unfortunately for Rafter his name isn't on the Davis Cup trophy at all, I'm not a big Rafter fan, however he does deserve too have his name engraved on the trophy at least once, due too injuries and illness's though he had too miss the Tie in Nice in which Mark replaced him and I think it was in 2001 he had too withdraw from his matches in the Final due too illness. Also when I read Rafters articles these days I often get the impression that he doesn't follow tennis at all, which is understandable, seeing as he spent so many years of his life doting himself too the great sport, but I thin khe's now the Publisher for the Australian Tennis Magazine, he also gets asked questions regarding Australias players and from the research I do his answers don't seem too add up properly ( in my oppinion). Mark Philippoussis is in fantastic shape at the moment, from what I've seen and read about his fitness and training, he's been training very hard for years now, unfortunately his joints can't seem too maintain the stress that his 100+ KG frame is putting on it. He is phenominally big for a tennis player, and how a guy with shoulders of his size times the ball so sweetly astounds me, he is a rare talent, in my oppinion he does deserve Wildcard's into the Australain events, his efforts for Australia over the years along with his Grand Slam runner-up results should demand loyalty. His Crowd-pulling prowess shoudln't be overlooked either.
