Hanley urges Davis Cup help for Lleyton

Full story: The West Australian

But, if that happens, then I'm sure the team will discuss that. Doubles linchpin Paul Hanley says it is high time Lleyton Hewitt's support cast stood up to help save the Australian Davis Cup team from World Group extinction. via The West Australian

I'm glad to hear from players inside our Davis Cup camp who support the notion that Lleyton needs to be reserved only for Singles duty, I'm not saying Lleyton isn't qualified for doubles, because personally I believe had he have stuck too playing doubles, he would have half a dozen Grand Slam Doubles titles too his name. He just can't be used as our Prime (and only) weapon, time and time again, for starters it doesn't give out a good image for Aastralian tennis, but most importantly he of will start facing burnout in the upcoming seasons, due too his playing style which has included a heck of a lot of running, most of which has been done on unforgiving hard courts, these 2 elements are why in my oppinion he has suffered plenty of leg injuries in the past 2-3 seasons. Playing 3 best of 5 sets matches in 3 days is ridiculous, especially when you look at how good all the players in the top 100 are these days. I think our Davis Cup relegation will help our youngsters and Journeymans progress significantly, because I don't think Lleyton will be called upon in the early rounds of our Davis Cup Zonal Matches, this will force our other players too step up and be counted, I'm sure plenty of them will relish this opportunity, and if Paul Hanley can form a solid combination with a fellow compatriate next year then that could permanently relieve Lleyton of his unecessary Doubles Duties. Well thats just my oppinion, I'm sure there are plenty of others whp disagree with that.
