Congratulations Serena!!!!
You deserve it for being a great ambassador for the sport and a great role model for many young girls who might ordinarily have never thought that tennis was a game that they could succeed at. BRAVO!!

I read that you can get a personalized video message and signed item from SERENA on liveautographs.com - has anyone tried this? Is this really possible?

There you go again. "Great ambassador and role model for young girls". Do you have children, especially girls? I have 2 girls and would not even want them watching either of the sisters because they are an embarrassment to the sport. The only reason she is the top prize money winner is because she plays doubles and mixed doubles. NOBODY gives a crap about these titles other than the singles titles. She has 9 titles that matter. The other 9 don't mean anything to anybody than to her and her family who are an absolute disgrace to the sport!!!!!!!!!! Have you been on medication when posting your comments on here? I can only assue that is the case.

And YOU are an embarrassment to mothers everywhere.

Really. Try peddling that garbage to Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver, or John McEnroe and Peter Fleming. The only reason you don't want to acknowledge her on-court greatness, on all surfaces, in singles or with a partner, is because you have an extreme bias against her, and I'm beginning to think it's because of her race.

There have been many other outspoken tennis players who have said and done much worse things than the Williams sisters. I don't see you on those boards going from one forum to the next complaining about them.

.

I don't like her because of the way she acts on and off the court. It has nothing to do with her race you jackass. I do not have a racist bone in my body, which anyone who knows me, which you OBVIOUSLY don't, will attest to.
The sisters and the parents seem to think everyone is against them because they are black. Many people, including many other Americans on here, have negative feedback about them as well. I simply can't can't stand athletes in ALL sports who are sore losers as they always seem to make excuses when they lose. I am not a fan of Roddick, who is another baby and Djokovic as well.
It's funny you would mention Peter Fleming and Pam Shriver on here. Why would you mention 2 sub-par players on here who are only known because they played with good doubles partners? Unfortinately, McEnroe is known just as much for his tantrums as his very good play on the court.
Maybe you should not make such insinuations about people when you don't know them, such as saying I have something against the Williams sisters because they are black. I don't like them because they are arrogant, abrasive, disinterested during press conferences and more worried about about the "bling" and apparel they are wearing in front of their fans at the U.S. Open than how they are playing. They are simply an embarrassment to the sport!!!!!!!!!!

If you are not overly biased against the sisters based on race, then I apologize. However, you do seem to harbor a lot of anger towards two people whom you have never met, who wish you no ill will, and who do not impact your life in any meaningful manner.

.

That may be true, but I would say the breakdown of posts is about 3 to 1 positive, with many of the negative posts being overtly racists in their remarks. You're in the minority.

.

I am in total agreement.

However, I don't interpret Serena's or Venus' comments as "making excuses". I think they are being as honest as they can be. If you listen to the commentators after their interviews, quite often they echo the Williamses sentiments.

The level of competition in women's tennis is not as tough as it was 20 years ago. In these tournaments, it's usually the Williamses against a lot of other women who have won maybe 2-3 Grand Slams combined. It's an upset if any of these challengers beat Serena or Venus.

That's all the sisters are saying. If they play their normal game, they win. When they lose it's generally because they played poorly, or their opponent played far above their normal abilities.

.
It's funny you would mention Peter Fleming and Pam Shriver on here. Why would you mention 2 sub-par players on here who are only known because they played with good doubles partners?
I mentioned them in conjunction with their more famous partners to illustrate my point. Navratilova and McEnroe are considered two of the greatest tennis players ever, and they both valued their doubles Slams as much as their singles Slams. Navratilova thought all tour players should be required to play at least one doubles major tournament per season.

BTW, throughout the '80s, Pam Shriver was ranked in the top ten in singles, peaking at #3 in '84, when she was also ranked #2 in doubles. She had a career singles record of 625-270. Hardly sub-par.

Peter Fleming's highest singles rank was #8 in '80, the same year his doubles ranking was #2. He wasn't as successful in singles as Shriver, but he was a top ten player the majority of his career, and known to be an exceptional vollier.

.
Unfortinately, McEnroe is known just as much for his tantrums as his very good play on the court.
He is known, in equal parts, for his tantrums outside the tennis community, but within, he was mostly known for his tennis genius.

.

I've already addressed the race issue, and the post game interviews. As far as the "bling" and fashion are concerned, if you listen and watch closely, you'll notice that quite a few of the younger players have their own clothing and jewelry lines now. This is the new millenium, and that's how athletes are marketed today.

I must say I am impressed you acknowledged that you were wrong about me with respect to the "race" issue because NOTHING could be further from the truth. I may have been a little out of line here for which I apologize, however, I simply don't like when people make insinuations about me when they don't even know me. People who make racist comments make me sick as well, however, I can't control what they say unless it is in person where I will make a comment against racism.
What I simply don't agree with is when people claim the sisters are role models and ambassadors of the sport. They are very good tennis players which nobody who follows tennis would disagree with, however, I don't find they give enough credit to their opponents when the lose, something that can be said for other players on the tour as well.
If you want to look at ambassadors of the sport, in my opinion you look at Nadal, Federer, Borg, Chris Evert, Steffi Graf, Pete Sampras, Rod Laver, and maybe Agassi ( despite his occasional tantrums ) etc. who were able to control their emotion and won AND lost with class and dignity.
With respect to the commentators agreeing with the Williams sisters in their post-match interviews, please remember that the majority of these commentators are American and are, sorry to say, quite biased you have to admit. Folks like Chris Fowler ( who never played himself and knows NOTHING about tennis, Mary Carillo and Brad Gilbert should not be allowed to speak unless they are going to be unbiased or have their mouth taped shut!!!! I had to watch most of the matches I viewed on mute because I couldn't stand them any longer, something that was almost unbearable during last year's U.S. Open.
I agree McEnroe was a great player during his time. He also regularly verbally absued officials and was assessed penalties for his actions on a number of occasions.

You're a jackass! And you're a liar. It's so obvious that you are a racist. You are just seeing things in your own light. They aren't doing anything wrong by not feeling up to answering a ton of questions right a after playing a match and feeling tired. So what if they like to wear bright, flashy clothes because it's the culture that they've grown up in and they embrace that. They've come a long way from where they started. Just because they don't act like the inherently lavish tennis players of the past, it doesn't mean they ruin the sport. In fact, it is great for the sport of tennis to have such diversity.

Aldo is a stupid jerk.

This just goes to prove that Aldo is a racist. We have world-class universities here. Not everyone in Hawaii smokes weed. Making such comments just proves that you are the one who is not educated.

I have never said anything on here to insinuate that I am a racist. I simply told you to go smoke weed because I figured you must already be on some with these idiotic comments. You sound like a 10 year old with these stupid comments. Please go play with your adolescent friends. Do you even know what adolescent means or is that above your education level? If you have nothing intelligent to say, please save yourself the embarrassment of any further dialogue. Please be advised that I will not be commenting further on your stupdidiy because it is hard to take your recent comments seriously. By the way, you hurt my feelings by calling me a donkey. Please get a life loser!!!!!!!!!!

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aries

Someone wants to go their own way today and they won't care whose feathers they ruffle in the process. It's a lunar eclipse at the Full Moon in Cancer, so let them get on with it. The last thing you should do now is to hang on to their coat-tails or do anything else that will make them feel restricted. Make it plain that you've got your own fish to fry, thank you very much. And try not to let it stop you enjoying yourself. Have a great night!
