"Our supply is being controlled by a cadre of OPEC despots who dictate the supply of oil for their own purposes"

"Our" supply? Since when the oil reserves seating in another contry's soil belongs to Americans? I guess you justify that the USA must murder hundreds of thousands so you can drive half a block in your Hummer to buy cigarretes? Damn well we need OUR oil for our OWN purposes. Be grateful we have been selling it to you for over a century and very cheap it was...

You got yourself into this trap by wasting away a quarter of the Earth's oil for 150 years. So we OPEC countries must pay for your irresponsibility? Who did you say was showing ignorance regarding this crisis?

Wake up Mr. John E.Tutten, The American Dream is over. Start breaking your patio concrete to grow some veggies. There is no way out.

I am inclined to agree with R. Martinez.

This assumption that OPEC is refusing to pump more oil in order to make the US suffer is facile. The truth is more prosaic, they don't have more oil to pump. They are fully stretched as it is; in fact by trying to maintain a cool response to demands for greater extraction they are helping the US, by avoiding the panic that will ensue when the truth outs.

Don't be concerned. If we run too low we will come down there and take your oil by force. I am sure we could do it in about 15 minutes. Seriously, what kind of military does Venezuela have anyway?
You dig?

There is no mention of the real reason for the high price of oil, which is really casued by unregulated investors in the commodities market. These speculators have been burned by the mrtgage crisis, so they are driving up the price of oil to generate profit for their venture funds.

And where does all this oil go?

Into a bunch of pick-up trucks that have never seen as much as a grocery bag loaded in the bed and silly SUV's competing for who has the biggest engine.

Sounds like an easy fix.

As any politician, he's just dutifully reading what his handlers put on the teleprompter. This particular stupid concept was belched out by European envirofascists a long time ago. As early as 1994 my buddies majoring in Atmosphere/Climate Physics were modeling the nefarious influence of bovine farts on global temperature.

It would be better to use it for new fuel and health enhancement. Perhaps you have forgotten that the Chinese are building many nuclear power plants of their own.

Easy? How are you going to get Al Gore, Ariana Huffington, John Edwards, Teddy Kennedy and Hillary Clinton to stop using their multiple SUVs? Not to mention Princess Pelosi's gas-hog taxpayer-provided airplane.

excellent take on the sutuation. Let us poke a few holes in this country for supply. Opec will get the message. Only 2000 acres are needed in ANWR reservation which consists of 19 MILLION acres. Democrats do not have the right to complain about the cost of filling their cars.

We're the US. EVERYTHING is ours. If we had any use for Venezuela, we'd have long ago crushed Chavez like the cockroach he is and taken what we wanted. And WE don't grow food, like some common farmer - we bring in South and Central Americans for that sort of menial labor. We grossly underpay them and deport them when they can't be exploited further. Who cares what YOU need?

The lives of the entire population of Venezuela is worth far less to me than a single 12-gallon tankful of gas. This isn't too subtle for you, is it?

The tumor will be taking care of Kennedy pretty soon, according to the news. That's one down.

Stop kidding yourself.
Vietnam, Korea, Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq show you're a dreamer.
The US army is useles on the ground as we all know by now. What you can do is nuke the place but then nobody gets any oil.

Reason 1.: The dollar's inflation
Reason 2.: India and China now want to use more oil, too.
Reason 3.: Your war in Iraq
Reason 4.: General human stupidity. Did you think oil is going to last for ever?
