The Fight for Legal iPhone "Jailbreaking" Begins

Full story: technologyexpert.blogspot.com

I wrote earlier that Apple has called jailbreaking "illegal." At the same time, however, the Electronic Frontier Foundation has filed comments with the Copyright Office asking for an exemption to the DMCA so that cell phone owners can unlock their phones , as well as be able to legally "jailbreak" their iPhones.

ITS LEGAL because you have said nothing about it being wrong until you found out that people where having more fun with it and that they should have had to have paid more to have it jailbroke. Greed is all that this is about.

DRM digital Rights Management part of the DMCA legislation that was created by the recording industry and media companies is one of the WORST examples of corruption and bribery in our governments history.
If the public had any real knowledge or input in this legislation it would never have passed and any lawmaker who voted for it would lose the next election.

The DMCA has been used to
Prevent refilling of ink cartridges for printers.
Deny Blind people from access to ebooks
Prevent Auto repair shops from working on late model cars
Teenagers singing "Winter Wonderland" being censored off YouTube!
It was even invoked against the famous Obama "Hope" picture!

Apple owners, Apple uses DRM to:
lock iPhones to AT&T and Apple's iTunes App Store
prevent recent iPods from syncing with software other than iTunes
Apple requires iPod accessory vendors to use a licensed "authentication chip" in order to make accessories to access certain features on newer iPods and iPhones this means a third party cannot make accessories for Ipods without paying Apple for the chip(and guess who gets to pay for this?)

It's hard to find an area of our lives that the DMCA hasn't NEGATIVELY impacted, yet it passed through a bought and paid for congress with little attention from the media that paid for it.

The Media will spend countless hours showing video of Britney's latest breakdown but when it comes to the DMCA or the new IP treaty barely a word. How do we have a public debate on the merits of some of the most important legislation in our lifetime if it is in the interest of the people who run the big media companies to keep it secret.

No reasonable person would vote for the DMCA as it stands.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Aries

One of the family needs plenty of love and attention today, but the trouble is that you may not be able to spare the time. If so, you'll be consumed with guilt and self-reproach, and this may become so strong that it casts a blight over the day. So do what you can to let them know you're thinking about them, but resist the temptation to berate yourself over things you can't change.
