Old news, new news is that hackers can hack your actual car by using it's built in onboard computer wireless system. Most cars from 2002 on have this.
A hacker can completely control you car, except for steering.
Brakes, acceleration, radio, power window and doors, and so on can be completely controlled by a hacker but the hacker has to be within 200 feet of the car to control it.

Wow all I can say. That and why would they spend the time to toy with innocent peoples vehicles. Too much hatred and time on their hands.

I read some things on that last year and it is concerning but does not make much news in America as the government and certainly the automobile industry is dismissive and downplays and negative impact of this.
Ironically while I was in the military they have the capacity to use a particular mount on a vehicle that sends out an electromagnetic pulse that destroys all circuitry in a given radius. Aside from bomb defusing and communication destruction this can be driven down a residential street and immobilize 90% of all vehicles, televisions, phones, radios, anything electronic built after the late 1980s basically. This would be done in order to control population movements and access to information in times of national crisis. The revision of this law allowing this is that the military now has the authority to arrest American civilians on American soil without charges and detain them indefinately without access to lawyers or anyobody else. Basically like with the Nazis, people would simply disappear into the night and fog.

Car hacking is concerning but more concerning is the electric company and their smart meters. Their monitoring system can be hacked and a person can in real time see what electricity is used. They can tell if a light goes on or off, garage door opener or a dryer is in use, a television, and so on. Each item has a particular power use signature so in effect a person can watch in real time and see if anybody is actually home and if home what they are pretty much doing. Is ideal for criminals as they no longer have to physically case out your house, they can do it online.

And FYI, criminals dont do these fancy things to get into your house, they take their foot and kick your front door open. 95% of the time and they will even do it when YOUR in the house, it happens very frequently.

They are criminals because they are desperate and desperate people dont think things like this threw most of the time, its very unlikely theyll use a computer instead of their foot unless you're a very high profile person, which Im assuming most of us arent.

Most criminals do scope out a property beforehand and I think the other posters point was that this gives the more sophisticated criminal a very good tool to scope out a property to burgle without physically having to go anywhere.
I was actually home on leave 22 years ago when two thugs rang my doorbell in the middle of the day. By the time I got off the toilet and pulled my pants up I heard the front door crash in. I got my .45 from nightstand and went downstairs and double tapped both of them in the chest as they turned around in great surprise. One of them dropped my gold pocketwatch he had in his hand. Thank goodness it fell on the padded chair next to him as I would have really been upset if it hit the hardwood floor and broke.
Of course the police came and recognized the thugs as serial burglers, asked me some questions, and then left after the coroner carted off the trash.
I paid my then $100.00 insurance deductable to have a cleaning crew come clean up the bio mess.
Only one of them was armed with some cap gun,.38 snub nose that and the other had some little knife.
I can say that that area of town had no more burglaries for 5 years.
