I couldnt find the link to the Discovery program where there is a scientist who is turning off and on genes of eggs and has already found one spot that turns on teeth, another that turns on the long tail. Before long they will have it altogether and I hope will let at least one hatch to show the world that evolutions history is in the genes.

I saw that not long ago. Interesting. They suggested starting with an emu and tweaking the genes to turn on some of the dino-like characteristics.

Not sure how feasible that is at present...if ever. Discovery channel sometimes lets hyperbole get the better of them. Still, the genes ARE there...teeth, long tail, scales. Sure doesn't LOOK like an intelligent design.

But...but...FB! According to creationists, the jump from scales to feathers is just...unimaginable!(Never mind that they are made of the same protein.)

I also caught that one. Wild, wonderful stuff coming to light. I wonder though... if they can find the "on/off" switches for teeth, scales, etc., how hard would it be to dig into human genes and play with the switches for fur, tails, primitive skeletal structure? And if they _did_ turn on primitive genetic triggers in a couple of animals to produce no-longer seen traits, would that prove anything to the IDers?

No, it wouldn't. It doesn't matter to them that their "theory" would never predict such a thing. They would find some way to rationalize it and claim it was always part of ID.

It will probably have something to do with the "packed gene hypothesis of the Biblical "kinds" ".

Oh, wait, they can't use that. Too religious.

Yep they would swear God put the switches there for our convenience.

LOL, just in case we decided that we preferred dinosaurs over chickens and wanted them back. After all, we were designed with free will.

Just think of the drumsticks and breast meat. Not to mention it would prove evolution.

On a side note: on occasion, I encourage people to "check the headlines" to see if there are any wondrous "creation science" or "ID" or "alternative hypothesis to evolution news".

Well, an interesting headline came out today:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/08/science/08p...

Genome study of a platypus named Glennie. Not really much help for the "creationists".

Wonder why the "creation scientists" don't do research like this?

one could clone a t rex with a chicken or clone a gallimimus with a ostrich or clone a croc with a spinosaurus

Why not, be cheaper than the humane society. Dogs and cats are supposed to be kept under the control of their owners anyway. Any strays would be open game. Just kidding folks, this thread gets way too serious most of the time. I love my little dog and would not want anything eating her.

Maybe we could engineer them to eat just cats?

And if we're ignorant, what does that make you? I admit and accept that I will always be ignorant of something or other. And I'd much sooner trust the guy who is unsure of himself than the one who claims complete confidence.

After reading this article on the science/technology forum about how chickens probably descend from the Tyrannosaurus rex I couldnt help but think that if this is all true.all I have to say is how the mighty have sure fallen.into chickens.so sad.
