Hello! It is a penal system, they are there to be punished, not for leisure time activities.
Giving inmates access to the internet is like sending a kid to his/her room where he/she has television, video games, dvd, vcr, a computer and a telephone. What kind of punishment is that? |

You've gotta be effin kidding me?!?!?!?!
Why don't we just supply them with cable, 7 course meals and crack cocaine while we're at it. I'm a bit on the left myself but I do take a stand somewhere. Prison is Prison. No benefits, you've lost your "rights" to a certain extent. I believe in giving them food, shelter, visitation with family. THAT'S IT. They've committed the crimes that got them there in the first place. They didn't give a rats a$$ about the rights of the person/people they committed their crime against. Screw their "rights". |
They already get cable TV, which I think is bullshi*. If they committed a crime then they should get nothing. I think it should be an eye for an eye myself, however the government states it inhumane. However what they did to get in jail was ok, and lets reward them with 3 meals a day, cable TV, an education, and now Internet privileges.... Hell why don't we just send them on vacation to Disney World......

WONDERFUL, so what's next, allow the pedophiles to get online and talk to children?
THEY GAVE UP THEIR RIGHTS WHEN THEY MADE THE DECISSION TO COMMIT THE CRIME.WE HAVE SENIORS THAT AREN'T GIVEN THE RIGHTS PRISIONERS GET AND ALL THEY'VE DONE WAS GROW OLDER.USED TO BE YOU JOIN THE SERVICES TO GET AN EDUCATION, NOW ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS COMMIT A CRIME AND BE A GOOD BOY/GIRL AND YOUR FREE TO DO IT AGAIN. WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? IN EVERYDAY LIFE THE PEOPLE IN THE US DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE COMPUTER OR THE INTERNET,MOSTLY BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL HARDSHIPS OR THE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OR EXPIERENCE.HOW IS IT A PRISIONER HAS MORE RIGHTS AND WE AS TAX PAYERS HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.THE OLD WAY WAS A ROOF OVER THEIR HEADS AND 3 SQUARES A DAY NOT A VACATION RESORT.I WOULD HOPE A LOVED ONE OF MINE WOULD LEARN FROM A PRISION EXPERIENCE AND NOT REMARK AS I HAVE HEARD MANY SAY "IT WAS JUST A VACATION PAID BY THE STATE". |

This is what wrong in America, they are there to be punished for doing wrong. Most prisons should take pointers from my hero, America's Toughest Sheriff, Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
HEAR HEAR.......problem is in NY people would be up in arms if they did what Jos Arpaio has done. I think he is a great man and a very smart man. To bad we could not get it around here! To hell with their rights!!!!!! |
they are humans....just like us... Jesus! have a little compasion! It doesnt affects us.. so who cares?
Yes, it does affect us........ who do you think will be paying for it? They may be human, but many of them are the dregs of society and can't be trusted out from behind bars. |

How else would I get to post in this forum?
Actually, I just read the article. This is total bs. Of course they should have access to information on the internet. What a wretched law.
Read the article before you post you self-righteous haters. |
On what do you base the claim that they should have access to information on the internet? There are very sound reasons for inmates having restricted access to all sorts of information, especially pornography. There have already been enough instances of inmates using telemarketing jobs to fleece innocent people. Why give them more opportunity to commit even more crimes? |
I read the article but the headline says to USE the internet. There is a HUGE difference! Seems you've got a little hate vented up in you yourself. |

You always have to remember they have to learn how to do something .They need to go to classes they need to learn how to use the PC because if they get out what is out there but drugs and robbing for people that dont have an education . They wont know how to survive in our world . I for one am tired of people stealing my stuff but I would rather them learn how to use a pc , and learn how to work , have them take classes . Why let them just lay up on the state when they could learn how to do something to make theirselves a living
Absolutely nothing wrong with convicts learning a viable trade, or even learning how to use PCs, but how many jobs can you name that are dependent on Internet access? You don't even need internet access to design web sites. |
I know for a fact that you can find a job thru the internet .I'm a manic depressive so to do most of the stuff I do I go on the net . I have also gone on the net to find my son a job and he has mental problems . So the internet is vey useful . If they can learn how to use the internet they Can be monitored . I'm not saying they should give the perverts use of a pc because in my book I think a perv should never see the light of day unless its for hard labor .

They should have access to bread and water.

Read the article. The case involves a lawyer who tried to give his client (an inmate) some pages he had downloaded. What the hell is wrong with that? They're not talking about chatrooms, or new MACS for inmates, or porn or direct marketing. Read the article you wingnuts. |
I read the article...... if you did, apparently you didn't understand it. Here's a quote from that article: Now, Williams is challenging the policy in federal court, the latest in a series of cases in which inmates are seeking changes in prison regulations or state law to try to use the Internet to do research or communicate with the outside world |
Thank you! There is a HUGE difference in obtaining info downloaded from the internet and provided by legal representatives than there is having the inmate himself USE the internet. What did she call us...nutwigs? Hhhmmmm |
