Earth's clouds are getting lower, NASA satellite finds

Feb 22, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Science Daily

The results have potential implications for future global climate. Scientists at the University of Auckland in New Zealand analyzed the first 10 years of global cloud-top height measurements from the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer instrument on NASA's Terra spacecraft.

This is just what the realists like Lindzen have said: water vapor feedback (cloud cover change) to increasing CO2 is negative - not positive as the alarmists have claimed - making the actual sensitivity to increasing CO2 lower than modeled.

From the article:
A consistent reduction in cloud height would allow Earth to cool to space more efficiently, reducing the surface temperature of the planet and potentially slowing the effects of global warming. This may represent a "negative feedback" mechanism -- a change caused by global warming that works to counteract it. "We don't know exactly what causes the cloud heights to lower," says Davies. "But it must be due to a change in the circulation patterns that give rise to cloud formation at high altitude."

"Contributions of Stratospheric Water Vapor to Decadal Changes in the Rate of Global Warming

Abstract

Stratospheric water vapor concentrations decreased by about 10% after the year 2000. Here we show that this acted to slow the rate of increase in global surface temperature over 2000–2009 by about 25% compared to that which would have occurred due only to carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. More limited data suggest that stratospheric water vapor probably increased between 1980 and 2000, which would have enhanced the decadal rate of surface warming during the 1990s by about 30% as compared to estimates neglecting this change. These findings show that stratospheric water vapor is an important driver of decadal global surface climate change."

Look to solar activity and the heliosphere for cloud activity. This too was predicted.

"Would"...

“If cloud heights come back up in the next ten years we would conclude that they are not slowing climate change,” says Professor Davies.“But if they keep coming down it will be very significant. We look forward to the extension of this climate record with great interest.”

Another example of deniers desperately looking for any evidence, any at all, that seems to confirm what they want to believe.

Nah, it seems more like you alarmists refusing to acknowledge the uncertainties & doubts in your AGW religion.

“Clouds are one of the biggest uncertainties in our ability to predict future climate,” says Professor Davies.“Cloud height is extremely difficult to model and therefore hasn’t been considered in models of future climate. For the first time we have been able to accurately measure the height of clouds on a global basis, and the challenge now will be to incorporate that information into climate models. It will provide a check on how well the models are doing, and may ultimately lead to better ones.”

As evidence of which you cite an "alarmist" acknowledging uncertainties and doubts?

Professor Davies was acknowledging the uncertainty and difficulty with cloud modelling, not breaking news.

Ask him if he doubts the AGW religion, you'll get a completely different response.

Teh point being that it is interesting but doesn't confirm or challenge anything. The author states that it is too short a period to be of any 'significance' in the broader scheme.

Nah! Egotistic topix AGW denier certainty partially dwells in science uncertainty. As uncertainty of science measurement decreases, with the refining of scientific measurements, topix AGW denier egos get progressively shaky..... even unstable, as science kicks dirt on principally held political & business bias.

The reason is that topix egotistic AGW denier certainty also dwells in poorly earned hi skule deegreees (& sometimes not that), multiple mathematical errors ranging well into the billions of TIMES & a reliance, not on science, but the flawed dependent belief that money leads to truth.

The reasoning flaw is that money, also leads to an ability to cover up truth.

Oh my God who let the hippies out! what a lot of crap. These Litesong hippies are the real deniers, who believe what Al Gore tells them and won't believe what happens right in front of them. Also I doubt if he has any real education at all, like most hippies he has NO understanding of real economics, physics or engineering.

I had my college upper level mathematics, engineering, physics, astronomy, aerodynamics, propulsions, space mechanics, & architecture classes. If you want to point fingers, pick on the many topix AGW deniers who have no hi skule deegreees. Even those topix AGW deniers with hi skule deegreees, most have no upper level chemistry, science, astronomy, physics, algebra, or pre-calc classes. Maybe 'mr ed' has some college, but almost all topix AGW deniers have 10-12+ years less science & mathematics than the scientists that topix AGW deniers think themselves smarter than.

Yeah, while 'mr ed' points his finger at me(wrongly), most of his fingers are pointing at those topix AGW deniers standing behind 'mr ed'.

in the UK we don't call any qualification a "degree" unless it comes after a FULL University course, so a "high school degree" means nothing at all. I see you have NO University qualifications at all, only what we would call A level exams. Sorry to tell you, you are way below my level and that of most of us "deniers" . You sound like some silly hippy who thinks he knows it all after taking LSD and listening to some Grateful Dead records. Munch those lentils, Hippy.
