Here's more detail on the two amendments Congressman Teague got included in the bill:
(1) Protection for small petroleum refiners. In order to prevent hikes in gas prices for rural consumers and save jobs in rural areas, small refiners will receive all of their emissions allowances for free. (2) Protection for rural electric cooperatives and their consumers. For the 170,000 2nd CD rural electric members who were going to be hurt by the legislation, an amendment to reduce the electric rates for rural coops. |

Opening a local office is a good move on the part of Mr. Teague, but to say I as a Veteran or Republican, feel any better represented because of it is a big stretch of the imagination.
Rep. Teague was quite open in stating his reservations about the American Clean Energy and Security Act, but saw fit to vote for it because he added amendments to protect interests in New Mexico. This shows a basic flaw in all legislators. The law needs to be the same for everyone, adn special exceptions for any group, even in your own district is not the way to operate. |

From opinion letter:
"Teague was also commended for voting for the American Clean Energy and Security Act involving global warming and clean energy, although the cap-and-trade bill was questioned." American Clean Energy and Security Act, H.R. 2454, is the SAME as Cap and Trade. I explained this to Mrs. Jones at the meeting. She repeatedly referred to a "climate bill" which is okay, I guess, if you know what bill you are talking about. |

And furthermore, your tax dollars are paying for that space/utilities in the Otero County Administration Building.
I say it should be used 8 hours a day, five days a week at a minimum. Every elected official should have access to the room to meet with his/her constituents. Several months prior to elections, all candidates should be afforded the use of the room. |
