LessHypeMoreFact wrote: <quoted text> In your mind, of course. Where you set the rules to your own fancy. But farmers go by the MANUAL and get paid by the GRADE so the percentage of cracked, mildew, etc affects prices. And how much the farmer is PAID for lower grade grains depends on whether it matters to the person using those grains. The ethanol producer doesn't care about grades so much because he is interested in the starch content. The feed lot operator does care about grades and pays much less for the lower grades. A manual for farming, only the ones who go out of business. Farming is as much an art as a science. Knowing when to harvest and what to plant is as much a matter as experience as anything else. Sorry, but unless you can prove that there is a manual telling farmers when to plant and when to harvest then I would have to say the one setting the rules to fit his own fancy is you. Also, maybe you should start researching the commodies market. After all, that is where many of the prices are set.

For example, notice how much coal and oil are used now vs wind and solar. One of the reasons why is coal is a reliable source of electrical power and not at the mercy of the weather like wind and solar. Coal generates half of the electrical power while wind and solar together are less than three percent. The idea that they can reduce coal and increase wind and solar is doomed to failure. Any source that is at the mercy of the weather is doomed to failure. They could make the nuclear numbers and even exceed them but in fifty years all you are going to see is wind and solar where it is now. If they make any progress in making a practical EV then they will see wind and solar even further behind and see the majority of power from coal and nuclear. All Discovery Magazine had is the alternative version of a flying car. Something that dreamers dream but will remain nothing more than something those in the future will giggle over. If you doubt that then take a look at magazines fifty years ago and what they were predicting. Things like personal jet packs ending the need for cars. They were predicting the highways would be skyways by now. Hate to burst your bubble but coal DOES NOT provide half of electrical power. It is at 37.5% and has been dropping. As natural gas prices increase coal use may rise some next year but coal is slowly being phased out. http://www.eia.gov/electricity/

As natural gas prices increase coal use may rise some next year but coal is slowly being phased out. http://www.eia.gov/electricity/ Actually the EIA only looks at the US and not the world. Also you missed the fact that many areas are dropping in electrical consumption as busisnesses close or reduce operations. Funny thing is when you ask the EPA for it's numbers they seem to come up with something a little different. They have just a hair under fifty percent. Of course the reason why is the EIA numbers is based on how much is generated by coal in tons of coal and the EPA's numbers is based on how much as a percentage of the current amounts. As for the comment that coal is being phased out, it normally seems to come from those who are hoping that wind and solar will finally become practical large scales sources of energy. Which means that they have to ignore the fact that both are at the mercy of the weather which is rarely merciful. I have been hearing the end of coal and oil for decades and the funny thing is all those deadlines came and went and nothing changed except the dates. http://www.epa.gov/cleanenergy/energy-and-you... http://www.ucsusa.org/clean_energy/coalvswind...

As natural gas prices increase coal use may rise some next year but coal is slowly being phased out. http://www.eia.gov/electricity/ Now for the bad news: Coal power to drive U.S. emissions higher next year: report WASHINGTON (Reuters)- U.S. fossil fuel emissions will rise 2.8 percent next year as higher costs for natural gas prompt power plant operators to switch to coal, according to a government energy report released on Wednesday. Coal-fired power generation will increase by 9.3 percent next year, the report said, in part because utilities are expected to pay almost 20 percent more for natural gas. Burning coal releases more carbon dioxide gas into the atmosphere than natural gas. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/sns-rt...

We know you probably work for the fossil fuel industry but it will not save them,or you, by posting BS. Coal will eventually be phased out due to pollution and mining concerns, get over it.

Those experiments would provide a basis for useful extrapolition. Perhaps you have a experiment that would better fit . Please,..go into detail so we all may evaluate the practicality of your offering....
