Should evolution be taught in high school?

you can see evolution all around you, with the development of resistance in so many creatures that we try to control, including microbes, insects and plants. that's natural selection in action.

As long as evolution is taught as theory not fact--though I'm aware that many believe it is fact based on a consensus of scientists that say it is. Also, as long as the shortcomings of evolution are taught as well, including the lack of missing links. In other words, teach evolution in an honest way rather than trying to indoctrinate students.

This guy is absolutely correct. If it's going to be taught, it should not be taught as dictum but as a scientific theory, staring with the appropriate supporting data. If you understand the basis, then you understand the strengths and weaknesses of the theory.

I agree all creatures have the ability to adapt to their environment but you never see either in the fossil records or present day example of one species turning into another ie- an elephant into a manatee their is no evidence..

What the real flak is all about is the right to pursue the trail where ever the evidence leads - the "ID" creationists want to ban the teaching of evolution (monkey trials)- and the evolutionsists want to muzzle the creationisists (the pendulum has swung to the other side). Each side ridicules the other without regard to facts or evidence. Indeed, both sides have tossed the idea of scientific or religious investigation out the window -if the facts don't fit the theory, toss the facts out and insist the blind belief is inviolable.

And this is an important point because there is a difference between evolution and adaptation.

Everything in science is a working theory ready to be revised by new information.

That is the nature of science, while everything in Religion is cast in stone in a creed of belief.

This is a direct contradiction to reason and antithetical to what our eyes behold. that is why religion claims authority in the "spiritual" realm.

Religious thought is not sane but a dangerous state of mind. Look at the history of the human race, religion is responsible for most of our strife.

Its a force which can keep a community together unite in belief but as soon as another community comes along with its own set of beliefs there is no peace.

Sorry, but what is lacking is your knowledge of what The Theory of Evolution actually is. Your post is so full of misinformation that anyone who reads it will become dumber in the process. There is not a difference between the two. Adapation is evolution over a shorter time frame. To quote a poster from a different forum who said it very well - If you change a single letter in a word to make it mean something else. If you repeat those steps enough times, you have a new word altogether.
What does adaption do? It makes a changes to a population. What makes one species different from another? The differences in their structure. It is all the same thing, only the scales are different.

You point at evolution and say "I can not believe that, there are holes in the evidence!" while giving creationism full support when it lacks all evidence? Do you suddenly go blind to the evidence (or lack thereof) when you view your own take on things?

To quote Jesus, "Remove the plank from your own eye before the speck in your brothers". Your lack of evidence is the plank compared to the speck of missing evidence in evolution.
