Girl, you'll be a woman sooner than expected - puberty is getting younger and younger

Puberty is arriving ever younger in American females -- 8 is no longer considered abnormal.

The brain controls a lot of this. The younger you have sex education, the more it trickles down to even younger groups and when people think about sex a lot ...

There were fat girls 50 years ago and they didn't have periods at 8 because of it. Actually, 50 years ago if girls were having periods that young you had to consider a possible abuse issue, for the same reason as the sex education one.

Hormone fed beef and fast food has a lot to do with this problem. We need to keep our children young until they are mature enough to be adults. That requires mental changes that happen far later then the physical changes. Don't know how we can turn the clock back on this issue, but something needs to be done. Let's stop using kids in sexual ads, and refrain from lewd behavior on TV. Kids don't need sex education until the natural onset of puberty. (And this is best handled by the parents, not the schools) This artificially induced puberty needs to be reversed. No more hormones in our foods. Balanced diets instead of fast food diets. Regular exercise. Let's let our kids be kids for awhile. Adulthood comes quickly enough without these chemical induced changes.

I'm not so sure sex education at an early age might bring on such early changes in the female body...it has to do with something else... My mother, 2 older sisters and myself started our periods around 14-16 years of age....my daughter started her period at 14 years of age...and now what is a big difference in my family is that my granddaughter has started her period at 11 years of age...and she is not obese (as we were not)!

No matter the time period a female body begins the period cycles it is always going to be scarey, regardless of ones age. Now try and explain the changing of a female body to a girl in the 8-11 year range and you have a full blown fear factor of some kind! Knowledge is being prepared but doesn't necessarily mean it can be absorbed and/or understood.

Yes I do believe there is 'something' causing this time of age, 8-11 years, in a female body to change and the effects it might/will have on the chemical balance of a grown female. A female's body is an art still being discovered.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard someone say. PLEASE give us some data to back your claim. I really cannot believe that you made this statement.

Although endocrine disruptors may be a contributing cause, I think a more pauseable explanation is: american (US) society is well fed and has the best health care in the world. Darwin said it best "survival of the fittest".
What happens in nature when the food is very pentiful and disease is abated, the population increases. Hopefully the puritanical beliefs of the US will abate the later.

This would tend to make a lot more sense than diet.
Diet would seem to have more of a delay effect than a promotional effect.
That being said. What is the normal relative age of puberty in other primates? Could it be that 8 is more of a normal age, and the effects of puritanism has been a delaying factor for generations?

http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/teensbeforeti... has info on soy estrogens. I know England has classified estrogens (from contraceptives) as a pollutant, and there are reports of detrimental changes in fish, but I can't find where I saved 'em.

Your right.
Girls now look and act older. They want to grow up to fast and want to know about sex.

"american (US) society is well fed and has the best health care in the world. Darwin said it best "survival of the fittest".

Did you just see the world health report that had France as the best and the United States as the worst providers of health care?

We are not Well fed we are Over fed

I am in the Human Service Dept as a senior student and the teachers there tell us WE are the experts on what is best for children and families not the parents.

All students in my law class voted that 12 year old girls should have the HPV shot even against the families wishes.....their point was drug companies/health official knew what was better for your kids then parents. These are the future teachers/social workers/therapist that will be running schools and social services. "free" social sercices come at a price and the price is your control over what your children learn.
The way we are taught is that parents can not make the best decissions for their kids because they are not trained in all the issues as we are.

This is what you get with all the hormones in the food and overweight kids, too. Global warming probably figures in somehow, too.

We are fast coming on the day when we will need a license to procreate, and another to parent.
