Why does FPL act this way? It's simple: because they can.
Consumers who get fed up with FPL have no other options, save for some sort of generator. In the meantime, FPL can pass along 100% of energy cost increases to us, while still maintaining the same profits.
As a letter-to-the-editor stated yesterday, some smart lawyer should start up a class-action suit. I didn't fall for this scam, so a suit wouldn't benefit me. I would love, however, to be on that jury so that I could show FPL some of that arrogance they display to us.

I sometimes wonder if these writer's understand how a regulated public utility works. If there is a real problem with how FPL spent this money, the Sun Sentinel should be publicly and privately, talking to the PSC about it to ensure they have all the facts, including what the PSC thinks should be done about. But instead, the Sun Sentinel keeps trying to pour gasoline on the perceived public relations problem that FPL has with the public. How is that helping the community at large?
It the PSC is not doing its job, the Sentinel should say so. Otherwise, they are not helping. It's not as though we can all stop getting our electric power from FPL by hiring the competition tomorrow, now is it?

If you have a serious complaint, take it to the Public Service Commission - that's "P" as in Public. That's their job - to represent you. Filing a class action lawsuit is akin to suing yourself. You're are first suing the government for improper regulation of a government regulated utility. But in the end, all a class action lawsuit would do is line the pockets of a law firm with even more of your hard earned money.

"Florida Plunder and Loot" is right on the mark. And WE, unfortunately are their "marks". Thank you politicians for allowing us to be scammed.

Not a lot of choice when it comes to using power. FPL needs a good kick in the butt!

Someone will now have to start a Class Action lawsuit. Let's face it, FP&L is wrong here.
This will cost FP&L way more money than if they just refunded or credited people's accounts from the getgo. More lawyers and all the ancillary people involved will make more money while this clogs up the Legal System.
In the end, ten years from now, FP&L will lose money on all of this and have to make their customers pay more through cost increases. It's nice to be a monopoly..isn't it ?

is your air conditioning humming right now? mine is. thank you FPL. i lived here 10 years, and have been without power for 7 days total. that's less than one day a year in a hurricane prone area. perhaps if you lived in a decent area you wouldn't be the last to be restored.
"florida state is mighty fine, if you're hooked on to the power line."

less than 100 bucks to have the AC on high, computer on all the time, television, refrigerator, appliances, lights. not a bad deal at all. and in the winter/spring, the bill is like 45 bucks!

FPL sucks! I can't believe I have to pay for power that keeps randomly shutting off for no reason. If it wasn't for the damn refrigerator I would shut my power off!

LOL! silly fool. i am not a moron like most floridians. i have the space i need, right next to the beach. you fat suburban pukes move way out west, get large houses you can't afford to own, then drive around in SUVs with gas you can't afford to pay ... all to get over to the east side of town where there is actually something to do, and we locals mock you and your stupid palm beach polo outfits. 750 sq ft. is PLENTY for me and the concubine. enjoy your vapid, forlorn life, i'll be kayaking on the ocean, while you fish for dead bodies in the canal. LOL! scooped ya!

I prefer the term Fleece-em Plunder and Loot. I have a phone pole leaning into my back yard which I alerted FPL to several times online and on the phone. No one ever came to inspect or follow up. It turns out the pole belongs to AT&T. The pole carries power, phone, and cable on it. One would like to think that FP&L would work with AT&T to fix a potentially large repair and damamge to my home instead of ignoring it. Nope, they could care less until the pole comes down.

Enjoy unlike most fat americans i have ALWAYS conserved. not to get the praise of some pimple-faced enviro-geek, because that's the way to live. i spent a summer in europe and saw how the people treated water, electricity, etc., as VALUABLE resources that were not unlimited. i come back to the US and see how these savages live and the sh it eating grins on their faces, as they drive around aimlessly in SUV's, eating fast food and talking on a cell phone ... and it made me sick.

If you've been there, and it's so great, then why don't you go back there, and that way there will be one less savage living here.Works for me!
