Who cares what the I.O.C. thinks! What Spain did was wrong, but also the fact that the I.O.C. let China lie about the girls age on thier Gymnastics team. My hate is off to then for winning the gold, but the I.O.C. let them break the rules.

I adopted a daughter of Chinese origin who is now 5, and know that someday I will have to help her through racist moments like this. These grown men say they didn't intend any offense, but this can't be true. They know what's offensive and what isn't, and they chose the former. It's disgusting, and shameful, and the IOC ought to have enough spine to do something about these ignoramuses.

The gesture was stupid and racist. No way they can claim they didn't know it was offensive. What a bunch of jerks. Probably knew it was the only way to get their 15 minutes of fame.

What was CLEARLY inappropriate was giving the Olympics to China in the first place. What the Spanish basketball team was "supposed" to be a joke. The REAL joke is the OIC.

Could you kindly explain how these gestures are considered "friendly"? The rest of the world considers the gesture racist or at the least, very ignorant. I do recall reading about another sports event in Spain where the fans and players insulted and attacked their "guest" players from an African country. What's going on in Spain? My parents escaped from Spain soon after the Fascists came into power. Perhaps this sort of ignorance is the result of 40 years of oppression and isolation from the rest of the world.

I'm sorry, but I think it was funny. I understand that most probably disagree, but I don't think they meant it they way America takes it. Does that make sense? I think it was done for humor, not racism. Only my opinion. XD

Wow, your parents escaped ungodly tyranny in Spain? I had relatives that did that too, in 1490.

Ignorance. Pure and simple. Imagine Spain hosting the Olympics and players from other countries all wore bull fighting uniforms and and sprayed on tans? Or if other players put on "blackface"? Well, at least NOW they know it's rude. Ask any asian person growing up in America. Who has never had someone insult them or mock them in such a manner before? WOW.

Stop whining... it was a joke. People are offended by the dumbest things. Learn to take a joke. You sound like a bunch of liberal wimps.

The question regarding Asians finding the picture offensive doesn't need to factor in the intention of the act. If a person gets hit by a car, their reaction to the contact with the car at 50 miles an hour isn't dependent on if the hit was by accident or not....mathematically speaking. As with the accident victims reaction, this is about the Asians reaction to the act. Actually, I find it amazing that those involved didn't think it WOULDN"T BE offensive to the Chinese, and other Asians. That shows me how culturally different parts of Europe and the U.S. are, right or wrong. I actually enjoy seeing the evidence of this whenever it happens.

No Jimmy, YOU ARE the idiot.
What China's government does to their people is another thing altogether. We know it's wrong, however, making a racial gesture isn't any way to fix things. and in doing so, you're not only making a racist statment to China's government...you're also insulting the Chinese people who are against it, plus every other nationality with "slanted" eyes.
Would you paint ur face black and walk into Harlem, NY as JOKE??? Use ur common sense, MORON!

XD It's not funny when your team represents the entire country of spain...you're just demonstrating to the world that Spain is racist and that they openly make fun of other nationalies/races... Most of the players on Spain's squad have played internationally, and some in the NBA. They should have known better.

You are completely right that China should never have been awarded the Olympic Games. It's just a sham. Regarding the Spanish basketball team - they were wrong to do this. On the other hand, about 100 years from now no one will have to worry about this, because the entire world population will be Asian.

Funny that this comes mostly from Americans... maybe your are just a bit more sensitive to these kinds of things? The Chinese embassy in Spain was asked about the subject, and said that they do not consider it offensive at all. I'm not going to try to explain to you why it wasn't mean to be offensive, I'm just going to point out that most of the noise is not coming from the Asian population, who are the ones that should be offended by it..
