I'm a graduate, I know that you have to be selected to become a graduate member of AKA, but how would I know which events to attend because some are for members only, but the website that I look at does not say which is for the public & which is not. Also, if I should attend an event, am I to walk up to an AKA member & tell her what I am trying to do or do I just go with the flow.

I agree. I am a graduate as well. I have repeatedly attempted to join, however, I am not able to nail down an event to attend, nor am I able to get any advice & counsel from an current AKA member. Is there something, I am not doing?

The local chapter should have events that are open to the public. Obviously meetings are not open to the public but there are surely other events. You are right in that graduate chapters may not have as many as undergraduate chapters, but there is surely something you can attend. I wouldn't suggest walking up to members and telling them you want to be a member at first. But definitely introduce yourself and get to know them. |
